Is anyone else looking forward to this? It is going to be shown on Sunday nights once the present series of 'Call the Midwife' has finished.

I loved the original series even though the story did stray from the books a bit. I wonder how this one will go. I understand Robin Ellis has a bit part in the new version as the Reverend Halse.

Come and live here! Then you get to enjoy any good weather :)

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 17/03/2015 13:37

This is very funny

www.suffolkgazette.com/sport/poldark-to-ride-in-grand-national/

'He spends most of each hour-long episode riding his horse along Cornwall cliff tops at breakneck speed, despite wearing a huge hat and cape.'

snozzlemaid · 17/03/2015 13:45

Have you seen this behind the scenes clip? Apparently it was an ice breaker to relax the cast.

MajesticWhine · 17/03/2015 13:54

brilliant thanks for those two links Grin

OnlyLovers · 17/03/2015 14:04

See? Ex-dance champion. He's bloody good.

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 17/03/2015 14:06

oh! Look at this!!!

m.youtube.com/watch?v=g83FJkqAxSY

Swooning all over again for old Ross Blush

& old Demelza was so little & feisty Grin

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 17/03/2015 14:34

But SPOILER ALERT!!!

Don't watch if you're new to the story. This is for previous viewers only

NuzzleandScratch · 17/03/2015 15:44

BMW6, that made me laugh too! That coastal route seems to be the way to everywhere!

I haven't read the books or seen the original series, but Ross feels like quite a modern name to me. Would it have been in use back then?

(By the way, did anyone notice the rather phallic silhouette through the rocks in the opening credits?!) Blush

Indantherene · 17/03/2015 17:34

Ross was definitely in use as a first name in the 1700s; mainly in Scotland but also in England.

NuzzleandScratch · 17/03/2015 17:43

Thanks, doubted it would be wrong, thanks for the info!

Alibabsandthe40Musketeers · 17/03/2015 18:39

Watching him dancing like that has made me come over all hot and flustered. Dear God.

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 17/03/2015 19:05

I couldn't see his moves on my phone - too small & dark - dies it show up better on a computer screen?

Pixel · 17/03/2015 19:52

I've just watched the YouTube clip. Is it my imagination or has the scar changed sides since the 70s?

Dumbledoresgirl · 17/03/2015 19:57

I saw that mentioned somewhere last week Pixel. Along the lines of RE had his scar on the right cheek and AT has gone for the left cheek. I think it was mentioned at the time which side it was on in the books but I can't remember and can't check at the moment as my books are in storage. Doesn't really matter though, does it? Though, from the realism pov, I preferred RE's scar, not knowing about gunpowder and all that. Wink

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 17/03/2015 19:57

Yes it has Grin

WG never specified apparently so AT could have it where he (or make-up dept) chose

As long as it doesn't switch back there's no harm done

didyouwritethe · 17/03/2015 20:03

Has anyone got a link to the Yorkshire horse/stunt riding company? Darkforces? Only so I can look at some more horses, pretty please? and dream of running away to join the stunt company

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 17/03/2015 20:03

It just says cheek (unless it mentions it later for some particular reason)

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 17/03/2015 20:08

God, I've just read a couple of snatches & it's dragged me under instantly - I shall be drowning in Poldark books for weeks Grin

Ross's arrival at Trenwith this time was exactly like the book!

Dumbledoresgirl · 17/03/2015 20:19

Oo well looked up TheOne! Hair with a hint of copper eh? Not if your name is Aidan Turner.

I am glad my books are not to hand right now as I can see what I would spend my days doing if they were. Interesting though to see which details this series gets right. I know the original missed out loads. Plus, I have just ordered Robin Ellis' memoir of the making of Poldark and I can't wait to get stuck into that.

choccyp1g · 17/03/2015 20:33

AT doesn't seem to have much of a limp, which is mentioned a lot at the start of the first book.

Many happy hours ahead, as I missed both the series and the books last time around.

VelvetGreen · 17/03/2015 20:45

Robin Ellis' book is great - there's a bit about the previously mentioned cricket match at Boconnoc. Poldark's Cornwall by Winston Graham is worth a read too, with some stunning photography.

jazzsyncopation · 17/03/2015 22:44

me and dh enjoying this...loving the hilarious 'cold comfort farm' stuff and also the characters are quite complex really-apart from ross/seth-from-cold-comfort-farm/jamaica inn/ 's moody stares

Dumbledoresgirl · 17/03/2015 22:47

I think I may have read RE's book before - many years ago, I found something he had written in a holiday house in Cornwall - because I vaguely remembered something about a cricket match.

And back in the 70s, my grandmother had a coffee table book of photos of 'Poldark's Cornwall' - I wonder if the new series will generate something similar?

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 17/03/2015 22:53

I watched episode 2 this afternoon.

Demelza is really growing on me Smile & Verity broke my heart Sad

ludog · 17/03/2015 22:59

I'm loving the remake but the originalwas much better imo. Jud and Prudy are nothing like they are in the books...they are too unpleasant and menacing. They were much funnier and likeable while still being totally lazy. I think the original captured the depth of characters much more accurately. George is too wimpish as well, even his look is too refined. In the books he's described as thickset and in this series he's quite slim. I still love it but I'm not totally convinced Smile
