Is anyone else looking forward to this? It is going to be shown on Sunday nights once the present series of 'Call the Midwife' has finished.

I loved the original series even though the story did stray from the books a bit. I wonder how this one will go. I understand Robin Ellis has a bit part in the new version as the Reverend Halse.

Trouble is Cam n Clegg would look normal as they went to poncy schools and cam was in the bullingdon club. Poor Ed would just look stupid.

squoosh · 15/03/2015 21:41

I was worried we were going to be treated to a Pretty Woman type shopping scene.

squoosh · 15/03/2015 21:43

I love Elizabeth's blue velvet.

The80sweregreat · 15/03/2015 21:44

OttiliaVonBCup · 15/03/2015 21:45

Demelza looks a bit....gormless, doesn't she?

Poor Verity.

She should stick a pillow over Francis' face.

Sazzle41 · 15/03/2015 21:54

Ross has blood on his shirt now .... surely he should erm, take it off ? Just to wash it of course. Preferably before end of ep... 7mins left...

MajesticWhine · 15/03/2015 21:54

Verity's last chance to catch a fella Sad

squoosh · 15/03/2015 21:58

No wonder Demmy so passionately turned down Ross' offer to return home!

The80sweregreat · 15/03/2015 21:59

Its just Eastenders with horses really.

Karmaone · 15/03/2015 22:00

Can someone please tell me what relation is Verity to Ross and Francis to both! Can't work it out. Does Verity love Ross too?

Karmaone · 15/03/2015 22:01

Strumpet! Haven't heard that in years!

Yes unfortunately Demelza is gormless, and weirdly hunched. Just completely the wrong actress.

theconstantvacuumer · 15/03/2015 22:02

Verity is Francis' sister - Ross is their cousin.

Sazzle41 · 15/03/2015 22:03

Ok, BBC are big teases, his shirt was suddenly new and clean and we didnt get to see Ross shirtless (she said sadly and a teeny bit crossly).

Sod the tin mine and the views by the way, more of him and sexual tension with any female in sight and a shirt off scene please. Pretty please.

The80sweregreat · 15/03/2015 22:09

More shirt off action.. Agree about Demelza, i cant see him with her somehow. Shes seems a bit wet.

squoosh · 15/03/2015 22:09

I was wrestling with an aubergine and missed some bits. Did Verity's Captain beat his wife to death or was there an absolving explanation?

Magmatic80 · 15/03/2015 22:14

Apparently it was an accident. He pushed her I think and she fell and hit her head. I think. I'm not really watching for the dialogueGrin

thenightsky · 15/03/2015 22:16

Last time I heard the word 'strumpet' was on MN about 7 years ago when Nigella was referred to as a 'baking strumpet'.

Funny how that's stuck with me Grin

Dumbledoresgirl · 15/03/2015 22:21

Well, I'm sorry to say it but that was a load of rubbish. I'm not really in it for naked shots of AT so I couldn't even perve over that.

Demelza's gormlessness is just annoying. That hideous loose top she was wearing when even Prudie had a tight fitting top - why? Ross would have clothed her long before he bought her the cloak. And her lopsided gait and holding her arms to her chest and here open mouthed gormless expression - just NO! Bring back Angharad Rees. She was mouthy and pert and attractive. This woman is awful.

Verity and Blamey - well, after that episode, who believes in their relationship? It was stagily done in the original series but at least you got the impression, through dialogue, that they were meeting over a long period of time and gradually getting to know each other. Tonight, it seemed as though they progressed from meeting to planning to elope in the space of a week. And her behaviour at the assembly, fawning over his tedious talk of sails - what woman would have been interested in that? You got no sense of their mutual attraction.

The mining stuff was ok but I imagine was pretty impenetrable to those who are unfamiliar with the plot. (and quite boring anyway).

I really really don't like Prudie being a prize cow. She is supposed to be lazy, yes, but I don't see her as vindictive. Jud is a bit better - liked his tirade when Ross told him to get out - but not much.

The Verity scandal thing wasn't played right either. When the other Poldarks tell Ross about Blamey, he is supposed to tell them he won't interfere with Verity's affairs because he is a man who stands up for the underdog and believes in people being self governing. It was a great scene in the original. This Ross just meekly allows himself to be swayed - 'oh yes, we must stop Verity seeing Blamey' and then, when she tells him her side of the story: 'Oh ok then, met at my place' - blowing in the wind Ross! To my mind, that is wrong.

There were other complaints too but I need to go to bed.

Disappointing, that's all I can say. And I really liked Ep 1 so it is not just that I am comparing unfavourably with the original.

Postchildrenpregranny · 15/03/2015 22:22

Demelza is gorgeous .Beautiful bone structure .She will blossom into a feisty match for Ross . Shes much more 'earthy' than the cool Elizabeth .Article inThe Times (the director) said 'the sex ( between them) is amazing' (though I don't think we see that much )

Sazzle41 · 15/03/2015 22:22

Squoosh, who won, the aubergine or you? I thought going off the other characters reactions that they seemed to imply it was DV but he got away with it due to his status? Or am i wrong anyone? Was somewhat distracted from plot/other characters throughout, can't think why ....
