As someone else said, the last one was a wasted opportunity.

I would like to give tickets to:

Simon
Chesney & girlfriend
Faye
All the Windasses
Tracey-Luv
Michelle
Sawphie
Owen
Kal and all his family

Plenty more seats available, feel free to add some more passengers!

With Vera and Jack we had got to know them over the years, and they seemed to be real people who lived quite humdrum lives, so that when something like Terry selling his child happened we cared. The same with the Ogdens. So many of today's characters are young, attractive people who spend a lot of their time hopping in and out of bed with each other. Perhaps I'm out of touch, but the youngsters I know seem to be in relationships that last a lot longer than 5 minutes.

AgathaChristie01 · 15/04/2015 13:26

For me, the portrayal of humdrum lives worked. The acting was great , the characters were strong, and as you say, we felt we knew them. I still prefer scenes involving the older characters, whether it's Norris fussing over papers in the shop, or Emily trying to protect the church people from the language Grin in the Rovers.
I watched a programme recently about Rita, in which there were loads of clips of her and Mavis. Brilliant stuff.
Another amazing scene, was Hilda clutching Stan's glasses, and crying, alone, after his death. A commonplace, yet such a powerful, realistically acted scene.

I can't be bothered watching when the likes of Sarah, Bethany and Callum, for example are featured. Think I'm going to take refuge in my DVDs of Corrie, from now on.

"Woman Stanley, woman"

Why have they done Sarah up like a low-rent Patsy from Ab-Fab, is it supposed to show that she lives in Milan?

ClaudiaNaughton · 15/04/2015 13:53

My Hilda favourite was when she worked as the Rovers cleaner and sat reading the paper spraying the air with aerosol polish.

AgathaChristie01 · 15/04/2015 14:02

And another favourite of mine, when Hilda describes how important her beloved 'muriel' was to her...the days she came home, wet, cold, with nothing in her purse, it cheered her up. Aww.

Oh yes 'woman, Stanley, woman', I'm smiling, just typing that!

Did you SEE the trousers she was wearing the night she was getting it on with Callum?! Awful.

squoosh · 15/04/2015 15:08

Whatever she's been doing since she last tread the cobbles it hasn't been acting classes!

The writers seem to think that we all have such short attention spans we need excitement all the time. the "boring" bits are the best! Eg the conversations in the cab office, understated comedy gold at times. A nice slow burning story, WITHOUT the main plot "leaked" to the magazines. I'm sure the (many) Underworld fires in the 70s/80s weren't advertised so far in advance. I still shudder at the 70s fire where a woman was trapped in a corner. And the shock at the shooting of Ernest.

AgathaChristie01 · 16/04/2015 10:29

I agree, bits I liked in recent years were nights in the pub with Eileen, Liz and Deirdre (RIP) just chatting, and getting a bit giggly, Eileen and Steve having a bit of crack at the taxi office and stuff like that.

TheCowThatLaughs · 16/04/2015 11:57

If I wanted to watch something with horrible things happening all the time, I'd watch eastenders

ajandjjmum · 16/04/2015 17:50

Apparently they have decided that Deidre is going to die in the story, and have a massive funeral. I suppose it was inevitable (she was hardly likely to run off to Australia), but I hope it's handled skillfully.

ajandjjmum · 16/04/2015 17:51

Apparently they have written the storyline in with Deirdre dies, and are planning a big funeral. Hope it's handled skillfully. I suppose there was no other way to deal with this, but I bet many of the tears will be genuine.

ajandjjmum · 16/04/2015 17:53

Sorry Blush - trying to fill the thread singlehandedly!!! No mobile to blame, just simple impatience!! Grin

Southeastdweller · 16/04/2015 18:26

I really hope that they completely focus the episode/s on the funeral and not cut to anything else that isn't related to Deirdre.

eddiemairswife · 16/04/2015 18:27

Watching last night there seemed to be an awful lot of background noise, particularly music in the pub and Roy's Rolls. And definitely not the kind of music that Roy would choose.

AgathaChristie01 · 16/04/2015 22:06

Yes, I do hope Deirdre's departure is appropriately and respectfully handled. Given the current state of the Street, it worries me a little that they won't get it right.

tangier · 17/04/2015 19:52

Are there no other places Gail could buy flowers?!

squoosh · 17/04/2015 19:53

Poor Fay. Why can't she go back to school? Anna is being a shit mum to her.

squoosh · 17/04/2015 19:59

This grave/flower story is so ridiculous. But not even ridiculous and entertaining, just the boring sort of ridiculous.

Why does she keep buying flowers for Real Gav's grave??

KenDoddsDadsDog · 17/04/2015 20:29

Oh dear , the gay B&B story !

SwedishEdith · 17/04/2015 20:55

Miley. Brilliant! Grin

Continues the great Corrie tradition on popstar names - Toyah, Kylie and now Miley!

eddiemairswife · 17/04/2015 22:29

When was Gavin's funeral? The flowers on the grave looked remarkably fresh. Why would two non-pensioner adults go on a date to the pictures in the afternoon? Why hasn't the social worker had a meeting with Faye to discuss about going back to school? So many questions; so few answers,

Akire · 17/04/2015 23:07

I didn't get why she can't go back to school either? She has to by law so presumed Anna would stop work so she could go back to school. Not sure how she is staying at home with baby plus Faye at home studying too. Seems silly.

Unless she's planning to go back to work when baby is 3m old and leave Faye all day everyday to look after baby then study all night!

Did anyone else notice the Devil missing In action thing? Not sure if he's leaving or what, but one g to go on charity work for a month but then to stay several months without his kids is just strange. Surely he would take them out of school so they could join him there for awhile at least! And why havmt we seen how they are coping looking after the kids in the mean time.

Is it just me or was the homophobic pub incident not very well done? I mean he wasn't mean his wife could have possible have double booked. I read about it and expected it to be full on anti-guy but Sean seemed to go off on one without him being anything other than poilet about it. Was least expecting pub owner to be outright anti to their face.

Akire · 17/04/2015 23:07

Dev not devil! Stupid auto correct
