Have we skipped nearly a decade? They seem to be advising abortion, but I didn't think that was legal until 1967?

GColdtimer · 22/02/2015 20:48

I think termination was legal if it was for medical purpose, I suppose diabetes and pregnancy was very risky 50 years ago.

maudpringles · 22/02/2015 20:51

Blimey this week is dragging on.
I love the midwives and nuns but the story lines seem weaker as the series continues Sad

KnitterInTheNW · 22/02/2015 20:57

I'm diabetic, have been since I was 3. I'm bloody glad I had my boys in recent years, not 50 years ago Sad

carabos · 22/02/2015 20:58

Why on earth is Vanessa Redgrave involved with this?

Chewbecca · 22/02/2015 21:03

The nuns look like they've started wearing make-up this series bizarrely!

DMCWelshCakes · 22/02/2015 21:13

That's 2 episodes in a row that I've not cried. Either I'm getting hardened to it all or I did actually cry all the tears in the world at the first few episodes!

girliefriend · 22/02/2015 21:19

Oh don't be mean about CTM Wink

I really enjoyed this weeks episode, shed a tear or two actually.

Bit shocking that being a diabetic was seen so negatively, I was really rooting for them when they ran out away but they hadn't really thought it through. Could they have got married without her mothers permission?

The whole gypsy storyline seemed very stereotyped and Cynthia is a tad annoying, she is just so wet.

chocoshopoholic · 22/02/2015 21:22

I didn't realise that twofalls

ShelaghTurner · 22/02/2015 22:17

Who's being mean about CTM?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 23/02/2015 00:20

I liked Timothy going off to grammar school. I'm surprised they could choose between shorts or trousers though.

Also, Fred's awkward flirting with Mrs G was sweet.

Pixel · 23/02/2015 00:54

I don't think Cynthia is wet really. Look how she took charge when the Gypsy woman was in labour and everyone was pushing and shouting outside, and she is very capable with medical emergencies and the like. She just knows that the best way sometimes is to tread lightly and not antagonise people if she wants them to come round to her way of thinking. She's not wet, just tactful Smile.

Pixel · 23/02/2015 00:59

I agree about the Gypsy storyline though. And of course they were all honest as the day is long salt of the earth types with violins playing in the background of every scene. I was a bit worried when they set the caravan alight without moving the others out of the way first, they did look quite close!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 23/02/2015 07:33

We thought that! I was having visions of the whole encampment going up in flames.

ppeatfruit · 23/02/2015 09:18

Loved Sister Evangelina and Nurse Crane's bitching. Grin. The stories are not 'weaker' IMO.

I don't know if anyone's noticed the complete lack of putting the 'new born to the breast' in this series; I felt sorry for the gipsy baby who was looking for the breast They could 've shown the actress undoing her blouse if they're frightened of showing the actual bf.

Oh and Vaness Redgrave is speaking the part of the writer of the original books. I like her voice. She must be in her 80s.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 23/02/2015 09:45

Nurse Crane is my favourite character at the moment, with Sister Evangelina running her a close second!

I did wonder, last night, what failure of planning led to the young couple being stranded in the woods, instead of getting to his relative's house, as planned.

The sound of the baby crying in the background on the ward, whilst the girl was waiting to go for her termination did remind me of the bad old days (just ending when I was training) when women suffering miscarriages would be nursed on the maternity wards, listening to the sounds of other women's babies.

I also loved seeing Queen Catherine of Aragon as the gypsy Attracta. Shallow though it is, I love it when I spot an actor or actress, and remember on my own where I have seen them before!

SoupDragon · 23/02/2015 09:47

Nurse Crane is wonderful - totally practical and no nonsense but with a heart of gold underneath.

I don't think Cynthia is wet - she is quiet, calm and deeply caring.

And Timothy has been utterly spoiled for me after someone pointed out he is Timmy Turner. I sing the theme tune to Fairly Odd Parents in my head now.

mammuzzamia · 23/02/2015 10:35

Catherine of Aragon! That's it, I spent most of the time trying to place her.

Was Mrs G in the Village?

mammuzzamia · 23/02/2015 10:39

Ex borstal boyfriend I thought could have knocked on the door of the house for help that he stole the car from.

BertieBotts · 23/02/2015 10:42

Ah, I knew her from Orphan Black :)

diddl · 23/02/2015 10:58

i remembered her from that & Downton Abbey!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 23/02/2015 10:59

Mrs G was in Soldier Soldier - she was Sergeant Wilton's wife. That betrays my age and my crap taste in TV, doesn't it? Blush

diddl · 23/02/2015 11:04

mrs Gee {Annabelle Apsion) was in the Village.

Anyone remember her in The Lakes?

Loved that programme!

Oodbrain · 23/02/2015 12:42

I liked it when Sister Evangelina was talking about being a nun and struggling with the 'own mind' bit

Mrs G was also Monica Gallagher in Shameless.

I am enjoying CTM more without the Jenny character - I though she was very wooden.

The think I found a bit shocking about last night's episode was that the mother could arrange to have her 17 yo daughter's pregnancy terminated against her will because she was under 21.
