What I thought was strange was that Shabnam has been living in Pakistan for years and that newspaper clipping was in English. So is it something recent? I do think it might be to do with a baby because she was really interested in Stacey & Kat being single mothers and how they do it.

I agree an extremist storyline would be too controversial for Eastenders. My theory is she had a baby and sold it.

Maybe she had an arranged marriage in pakistan but it didn't work out so she fled back to the Uk leaving her child in Pakistan....not sure how the newspaper clipping fits in though

I thought maybe Shabbnam had married someone for money, someone she'd met while travelling who wanted British citizenship but she had actually been in unrequited love with the groom so had given Tam the money. Romance! Maybe the groom was in the paper?
When Shabnam was in it before she really struggled with her mum's attitude and the expectations placed on her.
There must be a reason why she didn't come back after the fire or for the weddings of her brothers but then when she did come back she was much more family focused and quite different in character (as well as a different actor!)

My friend thinks she was Lucys drug dealer. Hence the tainted money aspect and English newspaper.
And she's scarily correct in her EE predictions!

I reckon she's paid a surrogate to have her baby and is awaiting its birth lol
