Shirley is really really getting on my wick. Shes either fawning over phil or obsessing over mick. It's time she left. I liked the carters but the storylines they are getting are dire. In fact most of the current plots are terrible and not believable at all.

I don't think it is an extremist plot really just she seems quite angsty or uncomfortable about a lot of things she didn't like tamwar mixing with his friends and was desperate for him to get away.

I just watched again The clip of Emma when the penny drops. I'm not sure if Patrick falling is what triggers it or if it's the sense of panic or the people shouting at each other. But she walks out of the Vic and looks at the Truemans' house then the Beales' house, then across the square

I think maybe Shabnam was married but her DH died. She didn't get on with his family, perhaps they blame her for his death. Maybe he died at the hands of non-Muslims, hence her initial reluctance to let any of her family members socialise. The only photo she's got of her DH is either their wedding announcement or his obituary. Maybe there was a baby who she was forced to leave behind... Didn't Kush have a wife who died? They could bond over that. Not sure why she would've kept her marriage a secret from her family though... Unless he wasn't Muslim & she thought they wouldn't approve... Could be that he ran off with someone else, taking their child with him & that pushed her towards only trusting Muslims... Or could she have been raped too? It's going to be something that will cause her to isolate herself from Stacey & Kush but will see them rally round her when the truth comes out!

I think she might have had a baby and then dumped it out of shame? Then turned to religion for forgiveness or something? Maybe the picture was of the baby in an article when he/she was found? OR, she might have been a surrogate mother and got the money as payment, but then I don't know what the newspaper article was about. Maybe a picture of the baby/child for a baby competition? (Really thinking outside the box there!)

Yes that would make sense Mrsjayy, I think there's an element of "shame" in her story. things she thinks will bring shame on her and her family and that is not the "Muslim way".

I'm actually really glad that people believe Dean because that makes it realistic.

This is exactly what often happens when a woman gets raped by someone she knows, it is very easy to look like it was consensual to the outsider. The next thing someone will be commenting on Linda's tight dresses, saying she gave off the wrong signals.

How many people in rl would believe their sons, brothers, dh's, cousins were capable of rape?

My instinct was also that Shabnam was raped or similar. That makes no sense with the money but does about her reactions to recent story lines.

I heard ages ago that Shabnam had been converted by extremists which is why she doesn't go into pubs (usually), doesn't like Tam mixing with his friends, doesn't like Tam or Mas to have girlfriends out of the religion etc. I read this about 6 months ago though so maybe just a rumour?

Oh, that makes me think, maybe her husband is a Taliban extremist fighting in Afghanistan or Pakistan? His picture may have been in the newspaper as a wanted man? And she won't mix with non-Muslims because of her support for him? She might have met him whilst travelling in Pakistan?

That would be a bit risky for eastenders wouldn't it?
