She is a midwife. Missed what he did. There are apparently few opportunities for her at the moment there.

sailorsgal · 06/01/2015 09:47

She is a midwife and he works in a hospital pharmacy. Not great opportunities for them. They have a surplus of midwives and he would earn less.

Oh I love this family, they're great. What's the health system in Australia. Through insurance?

ShatnersBassoon · 06/01/2015 09:49

Sugar is 4p cheaper there. You'd be mad not to emigrate.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 06/01/2015 09:50

They're ADORABLE

Bowlersarm · 06/01/2015 09:51

Ah, we'll find out now about health care for Aiden.

18yearstooold · 06/01/2015 09:52

They absolutely cannot afford to move -madness!

sailorsgal · 06/01/2015 09:55

too expensive for them.

I forgot I've live paused it by a few minutes I'm a bit behind you all; I thought Shatners was clairvoyant for a moment there Grin

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 06/01/2015 09:59

Does Nicki Popidol just go out for the weekend and film all the links on the same beach wearing the same Boden frock?

Swizz

18yearstooold · 06/01/2015 10:01

I don't understand why they would be planning a move when there are no jobs and they can't earn enough to cover their living expenses let alone emergency flight money, activities etc

I think they think this perfect lifestyle they all want to go for is free

18yearstooold · 06/01/2015 10:02

Muddah I think she must do, the families don't see her while they are there

spinningirl10 · 06/01/2015 10:02

On the wanted down under website it says they made the move in September and are now living in Adelaide. Hope it works out for them.

sailorsgal · 06/01/2015 10:02

Ds has found the Facebook page and today's family have gone. Kevin is working in a private hospital.

Yesterday's family are still in the UK.

OP posts:
briteside · 06/01/2015 10:04

I also think that they underestimate how important family support can be if something does go wrong with Aiden's health.

I see from the website that they went in September 2014 and are settled in Adelaide. She is waiting for her midwifery qualifications to come through and he is working part time. I am dying to know how it is going financially!

differentnameforthis · 06/01/2015 10:17

I do wonder why, when you have a child with a heart condition, you would consider moving away from the NHS

We have a brilliant public health system here, and they would probably not get a visa anyway!

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 06/01/2015 10:19

Delighted to find this thread - just got babies down to sleep and started watching. Howling already at the first 10 minutes and feel anxious at the thought of them moving away from NHS support

differentnameforthis · 06/01/2015 10:20

What's the health system in Australia. Through insurance? Nope. Public is free. You can get private too, either pay or by insurance.

differentnameforthis · 06/01/2015 10:23

feel anxious at the thought of them moving away from NHS support

Why? We have a marvellous public health system here & the care I have received through various operations here have been second to none.

My maternity care here far out weighed that in the UK! With breastfeeding support on hand 24/7, where as in the UK I was told 'she's hungry' and left to it, when I asked for help I was given a leaflet.

Believe me, the NHS IS NOT the world leader in free health care!

code · 06/01/2015 10:27

I was surprised Australia accepted people with pre existing health conditions.

Rockdoctor · 06/01/2015 10:28

I agree with differentnameforthis the NHS is brilliant but I think the Australian system is as good and possibly better in some respects

LoisWilkerson15 · 06/01/2015 10:28

Liked todays family hope it works out but the finances didn't sound promising. There is something of the mumsnet about the woman (no I can't explain why) Grin

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 06/01/2015 11:14

I thought that too Lois

If you are on here, best of luck to you

(I'm normally cynical as fuck when I watch this programme. Not today tho)

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 06/01/2015 11:27

I'll take your word for it re: health care. But I feel anxious about a move away from existing health care providers who have already established a relationship with the family. I'm sure they will establish new relationships in Australia but it's another issue to factor in.

18yearstooold · 06/01/2015 11:57

Ah I thought healthcare was private in oz, I know my friend pays for private insurance and has had 2 babies there so assumed it was like the USA
