Sometimes I wish there was a 'like' button on MN, colleysmill!

ThePortlyPinUp · 23/11/2014 22:41

Colleysmill that could account for him not having a gp and being vague about being 80 odd.

Tanith · 23/11/2014 22:45

If it was last century, then the Indian lady would most probably have been Tom's nanny as a child but I think the Anglo-Indian era was over 80 years ago. Mind you, he avoided saying exactly how old he was...

And those photos were very old. They should have been late 1930s/1940s if Tom is 80-odd and they were his childhood.

colleysmill · 23/11/2014 22:47

If I'm right I've just spoilt it for everyone!!

But then I can't tie in the scenes in the cosy attic with my theory unless the spirit was after attracting in a new child to possess but turned when the older brother turned up?

I'm a total wuss and nearly scared myself silly cleaning my teeth tonight!

CooCooCachoo · 23/11/2014 22:49

Gahhh... Loved it but won't be able to watch again as too scary...

Will need to tune in to thread next week for a synopsis [wimp emoticon].

girliefriend · 23/11/2014 22:57

Scared me half to death as well, thought it was very good though.

There is definitely some thing symbolic about the sea, am guessing something linked to Scarborough. Yes an angry nanny ghost who doesn't want him to leave and yes the theory about him being older than he seems makes sense....

So creepy think may have nightmares!

Tanith · 23/11/2014 23:29

I missed the sea connection: must have been when my eyes were shut and my fingers were in my ears Grin

eddiemairswife · 23/11/2014 23:32

The photos were of a previous generation to Tom's.

ChimesAndCarols · 23/11/2014 23:44

Oh dear - I've recorded this. Perhaps I won't watch it after all Shock

zukiecat · 23/11/2014 23:54

I really enjoyed this, can't wait for next weeks episode.

I didn't find it at all scary though, I hate blood and guts but never find this sort of thing frightening.

BikeRunSki · 23/11/2014 23:57

Havn't RTFT so apologies if this has ready been said, but it was largely filmed in Marsden, a few miles west of Huddersfield.

AmpersandRea · 23/11/2014 23:59

Who is the old lady in the nursing home? She is connected in some way, I'm sure.

2rebecca · 24/11/2014 00:22

Agree angry nanny ghost, but he could only escape by leaving everything there. Well wishers bringing his stuff to him aren't helping, although realistically a confused old bloke with a house full of clothes wouldn't be allowed to refuse to bring them and decide the state should buy him new ones.
Realistically a social worker wouldn't find him a care home after he fell downstairs with no prior knowledge of him, not here in Scotland anyway. There'd be an ambulance or the on call GP, his computerised care summary, and if he hadn't any GP records and wasn't on any systems then social work wouldn't be whisking him away. He'd be going to A&E if unfit to stay at home until they could get the paperwork/ next of kin/ power of attorney etc sorted. How do they know his confusion and falling isn't due to an illness?
I'm too practical to do ghost stories.
The young girlie would have dropped the suitcase in the creepy house and ran away as well, not pratted around playing the piano in the dark and fiddling with photos.
The would be burglars were realistic.
Very creepy though and very well acted.

ginnycreeper5 · 24/11/2014 00:30

Who else was expecting the old Brown suitcase to be Back in the house! Possibly on her bedside table!
That would have been even creepier than the figure in the room, and that was creepy enough.
This is even better than any horror film that's out at the moment... and it takes a . Lot to scare me.

ProfYaffle · 24/11/2014 06:59

Anyone else think it owes a huge debt to 'Whistle and I'll come to you'? The original version not so much the re-make.

BikeRunSki · 24/11/2014 07:00

I thought that too ProfessorYaffle.

OwlCapone · 24/11/2014 07:08

Surely he had absolutely no injuries to match his fall down the stairs, not even a bruise - did none of the "professionals" spot that?

I agree that the photos are of the wrong generation to be of Tom.

diddl · 24/11/2014 07:32

Haven't seen this yet & don't think i dare now!
This thread is scary enough!Blush

BeeOrchid · 24/11/2014 08:19

I'll borrow that wimp emoticon coocoocachoo. I'm on my own here most of the time now STBXH has left and there's no way on earth I'm watching that again. I didn't see it through to the end of the episode. I fumbled around with the remote, changing channels with my eyes shut.
I'm expecting a good synopsis next week, mind. Don't leave anything out.

BeeOrchid · 24/11/2014 08:20

If the producers read this thread they'll be high-fiving each other.
Or maybe gloomily shaking their heads over the plummeting viewing figures.

Tigresswoods · 24/11/2014 08:46

I only managed to get half way through the episode but now I really want to try to watch it.

guineapiglet · 24/11/2014 09:06

Hi all, watched this and taped Homeland, a first as usually am addicted to HL! Loved Michael Palin in this role, a brilliant cross at being a lovely cheerful lonely man, but also petrified and controlled... When he said that 'something was missing' ... Loved the scenery, the photography and atmosphere and agree with the theory of controlling Indian nanny/governess maybe?
Wasn't too sure about the shrine upstairs, felt the lads might have been more scared about going there. Couldn't make out figure on beach who seemed dead but morphed into a kind of spectral figure. Really good acting by all, really creepy, homeland will be very disappointing nowGrin

ginnycreeper5 · 24/11/2014 09:32

Did anybody else notice that the eyes blinked in one of the photos?

It was also ultra creepy the way the girl was having a nightmare about a figure on the beach 'woke' up, to see a figure appearing again.. only to wake up 'properly' Again!

It's good how they had a double 'nightmare/nightterror terror' thing going on.
However wrote or directed this, really knows their stuff.

The way this programme was advertised was also very clever. When I watched the snippets, it gave the impression it was going to be some 'cosy' little drama, with a twist......
Was it heck!!!!!!!!

BamBam21 · 24/11/2014 09:42

Oh I loved this! So creepy. The BBC used to be so good at this stuff but not for a good while now. Their version of Woman in Black is still the most scary thing I have ever watched! Never understood that Whistle and I'll Come one, or the original story - just seemed to be a bloke haunted by a big mattress!

I think the Indian lady was maybe a fortune teller at the fair who abducted Tom. But did anyone else think that she seems abnormally tall, and the hand holding Tom in the photo looked very big and masculine? Maybe a man acting a part, given all the theatre references? Agree that the photos look too old to fit Tom's age.

ProfYaffle · 24/11/2014 11:17

I'm a bit ambivalent about Whistle too. Very atmospheric and creepy but I always felt the narrative was weak. Remember Me is shaping up to make it the story it should've been.
