PS was told by police that hairdresser was cancelled.
But she could have been going to or been with another patient/client

alltoomuchrightnow · 05/12/2014 15:25

the back of his childhood photo said PB? am i right?
and notebooks in loft said CB???
So let's assume that previous surname is beginning with B.
We know his mother killed herself. Perhaps mental illness? Perhaps they were HER notebooks? these weren't the same ones that he put the mementos into were they? e.g. the bows, lock of hair etc. Didn't he sling them in rucksack one day and take them away? (to motel??))Or am i getting it all wrong...

mazylou · 05/12/2014 16:28

The back of the photo said PB, aged 10.

BingoBonkers · 05/12/2014 16:31

If I was the policewoman I would have said that the hairdresser came early and the patient was off having some tests at another hospital and wouldn't be back til tomorrow.

Optimist1 · 05/12/2014 16:56

Can someone tell me what Katy did when she broke into Spector's house under his instructions? I seem to think she was secreting something there, but my mind's gone a blank! And what was the significance of that "task"?

werenotreallyhere · 05/12/2014 17:39

I don't think the police could look at the notepads as they were there to put in the cameras and microphones and no search warrant, plus they're were in a hurry after busting the ceiling. The woman in the hospital has IDed him anyway now.

BingoBonkers · 05/12/2014 17:51

Optimist I think it was to take a selfie in the bathroom mirror and send it to Spector for his pleasure and to prove to him that she is capable of following his instructions.

alltoomuchrightnow · 05/12/2014 19:38

I wondered that too, Optimist. She didn't actually plant or retrieve anything in the house, did she? Or was it to put the police off his trail for a short while?
Was it all just a test as Bingo says, that she really would do anything?

Also.. last night, he asked her how she could get into his motel room. She told him she had a key cut. Surely he knew this? Because she got in the room to cut up his clothes and write on the mirror?
Or was that the Peeping Tom bloke in the motel? who was he and where's he gone to...so many q's

alltoomuchrightnow · 05/12/2014 19:38

I thought she'd trashed the room as revenge for frightening her when he tied her up

YonicScrewdriver · 05/12/2014 19:41

Peeping Tom bloke was hotel manager - no reason to see him again (yet).

Agree she trashed room after he tied her up.

rootypigsinblankets · 05/12/2014 21:55

He's definitely Peter Paul. I don't think the babysitter put anything in the loft, or has been up there, or the daughter. The babysitter found the lock of hair in the desk drawer of his study and was playing with it, guinea, I think you're remembering that.

It is daft to have one murder mystery series a year apart!

YonicScrewdriver · 05/12/2014 22:08

Why was Paul in Stella's room so late? Surely he had no idea what time she'd get back but could guess it wouldn't be super late...

AppleYumYum · 06/12/2014 01:01

I think you could be on to something alltoomuch, they did look old too from another time. That would kind of mirror how Stella was feeling about her dairy being read by him and her motivations and past exposed. If the police did discover and read them then they can begin to understand his past and what thrills him. However I'm not sure if they did as surely they'd have told Stella ASAP and they weren't pinning up and photos of that on their little board...

I'm also uneasy about the wife beater and who his eyes and ears could be in the police force to find out where his wife is now. I was also thinking like a PP that the new hot cop might be dodge but I'm not sure if Stella sought him out because she knows or if she just wants some new prey.

I'm kind of developing a crush on the male cop of the male/female duo who go to interview people. Whoever said that Belfast seems to have a high proportion of hotties I agree, we should all move there right away!

alltoomuchrightnow · 06/12/2014 02:26

the notebooks I don't think are his, you see. but the drawings are v v similar to his and the style of an ill/ manic person. Perhaps he's inherited mental illness from his mother? or crazy drawing style . Initial is CB on the books and PB is initial on photo. So before he changed to Spector he was a B surname. I reckon they're hers.. or his fathers???????? ooh the suspense!

alltoomuchrightnow · 06/12/2014 02:28

yeh i definitely feel like checking out Belfast! my oldest friend has moved near there from England and confirms men are indeed hot!

alltoomuchrightnow · 06/12/2014 02:28

a visit may be due Grin . Never been to Ireland

TheDogsMissingBollock · 06/12/2014 07:45

What's in the water over there to grow them so hot?! unlike your average podgy, unkempt pale pinky Englishman

CoolCadbury · 06/12/2014 08:33

As far as I remember Peter Paul burnt his diary at the end of the first series, as the same time he burnt his car. That's how I remembered it anyway.

The diaries in the loft were definitely from a long time ago. I missed the CB initials, so it could possibly his mum's. Interesting that his name was changed to Spector as it is so close to specter/spectre, meaning a source of menace or threat. Only just made the connection. Duh!

You know how I was getting mixed up with all the dark haired women? I'm getting like that with all the bearded blokes.

hollyisalovelyname · 06/12/2014 08:35

Tis the spuds not the water!!!
Not all the actors are from Northern Ireland.
Some are from the Republic.
Will carefully study them next Sunday to tell you which are from where !!!!
To think a series on a serial killer of women could bring women tourists to NI checking out the talent !!!
The tourist board marketeers would never have come up with that Smile

radiobedhead · 06/12/2014 11:05

All the characters are named after guitars! Grin www.radiotimes.com/news/2014-11-20/why-are-all-the-falls-characters-named-after-guitars

Abra1d · 06/12/2014 11:19

Belfast certainly comes across as a handsome city in The Fall. And those gorgeous women with their dark hair and creamy complexions. They are good counterparts to ice-blonde Gillian.

CoolCadbury · 06/12/2014 13:52

Ah, there goes my theory Grin

Northumberlandlass · 06/12/2014 14:09

I once went to Belfast to watch Ulster play...had the most incredible day, met a man called 'Big Joe', drank & partied & watch some rugby.
Perfection in 24 hours! Grin

But back to thread....
I've just watched the first series & I don't think P burnt his diaries in the car, I think he had them at the farm outhouse...

Abra1d · 06/12/2014 14:50

I still think the diaries are Katie's. Why else did they go to the trouble of telling us her full name, twice, in a previous episode: Caterina Benedotti, or whatever it was?

And why did Specter flick through the diaries, look VERY AGITATED, and then immediately IM Katie and get quite aggressive with her?

I think she stuck them up in his attic. Did the little girl ever tell Katie about the strange 'things' that her father got up to with putting things up in the loft and taking them out?

I'll bet myself a chocolate Lindor I'm right. Wink

BingoBonkers · 06/12/2014 15:34

When he burnt the car he definitely threw a diary or journal in before he set fire to it.
