Don't need a suit for the path, just the scene itself. The path was laid out for people to all visit the scene the same way to maintain as much as possible.

The creepiest I find are the daughter's drawings.
She did those last series as well.
There was one of a pregnant wanton with something instead of a baby or what was it?

Seriously bad stuff.

YonicScrewdriver · 04/12/2014 22:56

Blondes, I don't think she went near the body without a suit.

Missy, I think Spector noticed some plaster dust on the stairs which should only really have got there on his shoes or on someone else's shoes.

But then he found those notebooks (were they his when a child?) and I think he felt better.

2rebecca · 04/12/2014 23:00

The ceiling thing was tense TV drama turns into Laurel and Hardy, a bit silly really.
I'm now confused as to whether they left the bugs or not. No-one in the police seemed to be listening to his mad conversation with silly babysitter. I still see the final episode as being him trying to strangle Scully with Rose West babysitter looking on and kidnapped Rose hidden in a basement in the same place.
Surprised she wasn't more pissed off with him suggesting her friend was the sexy lucky one she should be jealous of.

FibonacciSeries · 04/12/2014 23:01

The notebooks are where he writes/draws all his violent fantasies and murder recaps. He'd stuck a lock of hair of one of the poor women in one of them, if I remember correctly. And then I think he took it out and put it in his desk's drawer where the babysitter found it. Or something like that.

YonicScrewdriver · 04/12/2014 23:10

I thought he burned the murder notebooks? And so these were other drawing books etc?

The loft thing was heavily signposted, IMO. And why wouldn't a loft like that with vertical windows be boarded??

BOFster · 04/12/2014 23:11

He definitely knows the police are onto him: he spotted the dry plaster crumbs on the stairs, and found his diary miraculously preserved from water damage in the loft. I'd love to say that the level of police incompetence was unbelievable, but it both reflects real life, and -judging by John Lynch's captaincy of the fictional ship- seems dramatically consistent too.

YonicScrewdriver · 04/12/2014 23:11

And what were they doing in the loft, why bug a loft?

YonicScrewdriver · 04/12/2014 23:13

And wouldn't a warrant to do surveillance be harder to get than a search warrant?

BOFster · 04/12/2014 23:15

Yonic, DP and I both jokingly said that it would fuck things right up if that bloke put his foot through the ceiling. And that the loft would definitely have been plated out if the ceilings were that high and it had windows Grin.

Some interesting pointers towards Paul's motivation tonight. One of the policemen described Paul's bizarre behaviour at his work place repeating whatever was said to him. Later the girl in the hospital described Paul as being like a mirror. When Paul spoke to Katie he said that he took pleasure in other people's pain and said that life was about misery.

I think that this suggests that he can only feel at peace when the pain of his early experiences (bereavement, a childhood in care, possible abuse) is reflected in the world around him. He takes steps, by stalking and killing women to ensure that others feel pain.

He enjoys his job as a bereavement counsellor because it involves being around those in pain and distress.

He is close to his daughter Olivia because of all his family it is she who feels the most distress at his absence. His wife feels mostly anger or irritation. His son is too young to really notice.

He is drawing closer to Katie as he is feeding off the pain of her unrequited love.

radiobedhead · 04/12/2014 23:28

They're not arresting him because they want to find Rose.

YonicScrewdriver · 04/12/2014 23:34

But wouldn't arresting him and interrogating him be an alternative "find rose" strategy??

radiobedhead · 04/12/2014 23:38

Yes, it's am alternative. But he might not say anything at all. Nothing, nada.

In theory, by keeping him under 24 hour surveillance, he won't be able to hurt anyone else, so there's no risk in not arresting him now.

Of course we know there are two episodes left so we're expecting more!

BOFster · 04/12/2014 23:52

Funambulist, that's a really insightful post. Yes, I agree.

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/12/2014 00:01

I thought the path in wood may hold Clues hence all should be suited

The crumb of plaster on stairs. How does he know it wasn't from him when he looked in bedroom and saw the mess/water

Is the body in the wood anything to do with ps?

YonicScrewdriver · 05/12/2014 00:06

I wouldn't be surprised if body in woods called ps when he used to work on the suicide hotline.

Because he subconsciously saw the plaster before going upstairs? Because he didn't go into the room, just looked from the doorway?

rootypigsinblankets · 05/12/2014 00:18

I wondered at the police making it look like a flood, legally - surely they'd have to have a warrant to enter, does that include the right to trash the place to cover their tracks Confused

alltoomuchrightnow · 05/12/2014 02:55

Yes I noticed that too,Funambulist

I think Paul was highly suspicious. Im sure he thought the water tank accident was deliberate. He went looking for foot prints and found them.
Got to admit.. my stomach was a mass of tension watching and it was a real comedy moment (albeit unintended) when they fell through the ceiling! Totally unexpected.
Police did a rubbish job of covering their tracks

alltoomuchrightnow · 05/12/2014 02:57

I think Katie will be his undoing. He'll anger her/ betray her in some way and the mask will drop and she'll see him as he really is.
I don't think he will kill her. I think she'll end up killing him or he'll kill himself. in Fifty Shades didnt Christian Grey also have an awful childhood? (I haven't read them properly) and mummy issues?

rootypigsinblankets · 05/12/2014 04:21

I watched back on iplayer - Burns does say Spector's name, but when they're in the bathroom. So we don't know if he heard or not....I suppose that must be intentional on the writers' parts.

I can't believe he would have gone to the hospital if he'd known though.

BingoBonkers · 05/12/2014 06:33

Noticed last night that Spector looks like he has no eyes. Same in that photo that was found. Just dark pools.

Think he was hugely suspicious about the water leak. Then saw what looked like drilling dust on the stairs.

guineapiglet · 05/12/2014 08:25

Re the daughters creepy drawings, I said up thread that I have a recollection of the daughter finding his death journal with its photos and memorabilia in the first series early on. She keeps recreating those disturbing drawings as doesn't understand them but they have affected her. Journals are highly significant in this series, now Katie has a creepy loved up teenage one.... Whose were the old journals Spector found. The old photo the detective took out of the frame had the initials PB on, but didn't the journals say CB.?
I have kept a journal for years but starting to see it is a liabilityShock

radiobedhead · 05/12/2014 08:36

Yes, the initials did say cb.

We don't know if the daughter looked at the journals. We do know she saw her dad put something in the loft, that's it.
