Anyone else been watching this? It's on at 10pm on Thursdays, on BBC Four. No idea why they've hidden this in such a graveyard slot. It's gorgeous. Beautifully shot, beautifully acted.
It's billed as a sitcom, but it's not a-laugh-per-line stuff. Reminds me a bit of Gavin and Stacey, in that it's really warm and gentle and creates a completely believable little universe. I've just re-watched Episode 1 before it disappears off iplayer.
(erm...maybe I'm developing a bit of a crush on Andy, played by Mackenzie Crook, who also wrote and directed the whole thing. I mean, please! It's Gareth off the Office!!!)

I love it inordinately.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 29/11/2017 16:48

Actually Bore - so can I!

I'll have to maybe leave a metal detector lying about somewhere they would find it.

Next to the samovar, perhaps?

I do miss those Russian rapscallions!

(Sorry for thread divert, everyone)

SchadenfreudePersonified · 29/11/2017 17:54

I will let them know Bore. They have been dying to get back on the site by hook or by crook, but they don't want to rock International Negotiations on Important Stuff.

Vlad had got very excited because a member of MN (sorry - name withheld to protect the ignorant) has declared that he was her guilty crush. This led to the following conversation . . .

NEXT TO THE SAMOVAR

THE KREMLIN

RUSSIA

"And then he said HAHAHAHAHA 'I are a sexual fantastical on Mumsnet!' HAHAHAHAHA and he think he Big StudMuffin! HAHAHAHAH"

"HAHAHAHAHAHA"

"What you laugh at? Is good joke - da?"

"Oh! We just talk about President Pump! He a big bumhole - no mistake! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

"Hahahahahahaha" (Igor is not quite so confident. . . )

"HAHAHAHAHAHA - Yes he is Bumhole! HE ARE NOT SEXY PRESIDENT LIKE ME! HAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA!"

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Beetroot tea?'

"Please"

Gotta love those ker-ayzee Russian guys!

The collective genetic memory of magpies. Beautiful.

morningconstitutional2017 · 01/12/2017 13:16

I like watching this but feel annoyed that the BBC have hidden it away on BBC4 where it can be easily forgotten.

To get the recognition it deserves it should be on BBC1 surely? (And the news should be at 9 o'clock, but that's another subject.)

grafittiartist · 13/12/2017 23:08

Anyone else really sad that this is over? What a gorgeous series.

2rebecca · 13/12/2017 23:37

A great series. Sad it's gone

BoreOfWhabylon · 14/12/2017 00:39

Oh gosh. Am bereft that there will be no more Sad

Perfect series.

Footle · 14/12/2017 08:35

I would have liked a final shot of a little Gold Dance under the oak. It's been wonderful.

LooseAtTheSeams · 14/12/2017 08:43

Lovely series and a beautiful ending - very sad it's the last one as the whole thing has been a real treat.

mrsmuddlepies · 14/12/2017 09:03

I loved the shots of the countryside. They clearly filmed the series in summer and it was such a treat watching each programme on a dark winter's night.
I loved it and I am so sad that we won't have the opportunity to stroll the fields with Lance and Andy. I will miss the flask of tea too.
Huge well done to everyone involved in making this series. Thank you

2rebecca · 14/12/2017 15:29

Agree re the gold dance. They obviously saw the gold coins so I was waiting for the others to turn back and head for the tree after Lance and Andy yelled excitedly and was surprised that never happened.

CaptainHammer · 14/12/2017 15:40

I’m so sad it’s over but that was a perfect ending.

BoreOfWhabylon · 14/12/2017 17:50

Yes, I was expecting the Gold Dance too.

Loved the gazebo-raising to the barn-raising theme from Witness Grin

Kinraddie · 15/12/2017 13:21

Yes, a perfect ending. An ode to England and contentment and simple pleasures. Brought tears to my eyes when Terry gazed at Sheila, his heart full of love and peace.

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/12/2017 13:24

Oh, I just loved Terry and Sheila!

All the characters just so, so perfectly drawn.

Footle · 15/12/2017 16:00

BoreOfWhab, thank you, I missed that. Nice.

squiz81 · 15/12/2017 16:28

Sad that its ending, but it ended on a high! What a beautifully shot, funny comedy. Mackenzie Crook has done an amazing job. I hope he writes more stuff. I absolutely loved the ending, so subtle and very feel-good!

Cooroo · 15/12/2017 22:00

A perfect series. The eventual friendship. The treasure. The house. The weather. It makes me want to cry. Loved it.

LooseAtTheSeams · 15/12/2017 23:10

And Sheila happily reading the book on Buttons! Loved it!

Footle · 16/12/2017 07:31

Cooroo, exactly.

DrRanjsRightEyebrow · 16/12/2017 11:50

just finished watching this. Adored it. I'm bereft it's finished!

Greenteandchives · 16/12/2017 11:54
