Have been following this thread for about two weeks now with delight. Have been working up the courage to post and am finally taking the plunge. My trepidation is for three main reasons.

  1. I have really never done anything like this before
  1. Not sure I can add to the discussion - it is so well thought out and researched and every time I think of or spot something new I find someone has already raised it and articulated it in a much better way than I could!
  1. I am a Dad rather than a Mum, 44 year old father of two young boys. I think I am the first male contributor although I am happy to be corrected. My hesitation on this point is not that ,as a male, I am embarrassed to admit my love of this wonderful programme but that by getting involved I do not want to upset the threads great dynamic or make anyone feel uncomfortable. Hope I am not being over sensitive on this point but if there are objections I am happy to withdraw and follow from a distance once more. ( I am conscious of the irony of this concern given one of the main themes of Our Girl!)

Anyway, I would like to get involved from time to time and add some value in a small way if no one objects

icemist · 28/10/2014 08:56

I'm doing my own calendar. i've gotten my fave photos of CJ just need to put it together. doing it with vistaprint :D

BrodiesBabe · 28/10/2014 09:13

SPOfficer, you are very, very welcome! I think it's fantastic to have a bloke on the thread and to add a different dynamic and perspective. Fantastic! Smile

Welcome sp look forward to reading your take on our girl. Excuse the dribbling.

stressybird · 28/10/2014 09:35

Great to have a male perspective (unless of course you are in fact my husband and I've been well and truly rumbled?)

Back to calendars, hadn't thought about the possibility of creating my own. May have to bribe one of the youngsters at work to show me how to put one together, or better still, make one for "a friend". Having said that, if I make enough noise, perhaps my Secret Santa could arrange it....although that would mean confessing my love to a group of younger colleagues who already think I'm rather special.

furcoatbigknickers · 28/10/2014 09:39

Just watchec. Youtube clip and love the wink when they are singing, don't go breaking my heart. That would make a great first dance song when they get married and have baby Rosa. Oh sorry thats my spin off.

furcoatbigknickers · 28/10/2014 09:39

Its those little things that make it such a great show.

icemist · 28/10/2014 09:45

love the singing!! he winks twice at her :) you can see there in that scene that there is a lot of mutual attraction going on. Have despatched my older boy upstairs so I can drool study for my mastermind appearance... specialist subject 'Captain James'

Smurfingreat · 28/10/2014 10:05

Welcome SPOfficer, as voiced by the others, great to have a man onboard too.

Icemist, two winks?! Damn I'm going to have to watch it again....

snumpy · 28/10/2014 10:06

I've watched episode 2 and can't for the life of me see where he winks at her? It must be so quick I miss it. Will have to watch again obvs.

iTunes now have all episodes to download now. Wonder what the delay was.

I do like Klipdoctors fan fiction piece from CJ's point of view. I thinks it's one of the best ones and I check regularly for updates.

icemist · 28/10/2014 10:19

have ordered myself a desk calender for work. don't think hubby would be impressed if I replaced our family calendar with one of BA/CJ

orphan · 28/10/2014 10:19

I too have been tempted out of longtime lurking by this thread. I have never ever posted on a forum before, but this is too irresistable! I would really love a novel of the series to be written, with all the missing scene links put in. Also, when Molly turns up in Bath at the end, is the bag she's carrying big enough to be an overnight one (speaking as someone who can't travel lightly)? In other words, is she planning on staying?

icemist · 28/10/2014 10:22

The wink is when they are singing the duet at the of ep 3. Definitely 2 the first is not as noticeable.

Rhubarb01 · 28/10/2014 10:31

Hi spofficer its nice to hear a male point of view on Our Girl. My DH hasn't watched this yet. I am working on trying to convince him that he will enjoy the DVD when it arrives with comments such as "there's a lot of military action and biffing" and knowing that he likes things with a bit of banter and cameraderie. To be fair to him doesn't mind a bit of 'chemistry' either. My aim is to find one other person in my family to discuss this with! As Nappyvalleymum says I'd love to know what you like about our girl as it may give me some points to work on although seriously it is interesting to have a different view.

lyndie · 28/10/2014 10:35

I love the duet! I knew a few officer cadet types at Uni and they adored putting on a show or a review! I don't think it's out of character to relax and let your hair down a bit! In fact they quite like dressing up as women I've no idea what that says about them.

BA looked lovely in that Twitter pic. Beautifully dressed.

915 posts! Are we staying on Telly Addicts or going elsewhere?

Ilovelblue · 28/10/2014 12:43

Ladies and SPofficer - I have some news! Ben's management agency has emailed me and he is apparently going to be on Radio One with Nick Grimshaw "later this week". No further details as yet. I'm not a Radio One fan but imagine I can find it on a podcast or something later if necessary. Will respond back to the email to see if I can get a more definite day and time from them.

BrodiesBabe · 28/10/2014 13:00

That's fantastic, Ilovelblue. Great work! I don't listen much to Radio One but will for this!

Had a bit of an Our Girl moment in town just now. Was in HMV looking for something and heard a girl of about 18 asking about Our Girl! I couldn't help myself. I turned to her and said, 'Good choice.' !! Poor thing. Probably freaked her out to have some random stranger commenting on her shopping choices. I so wanted to follow it up with, 'Can't get enough of Captain James' or something like that but I thought I'd better keep my mouth shut. Incidentally, the shop assistant was clueless - at first he showed her to the comedy section! I think she was just asking if they were definitely getting it in or asking for the original one-off because when they were at the counter she kept saying, 'Yes, I know' whenever he told her something like 'There's one out on November 3rd.'

Just felt the need to share that random little fangirl moment with you!

icemist · 28/10/2014 13:01

Iloveblue you are headgirl today
I think thats the breakfast show (never listen to Radio 1) either

BrodiesBabe · 28/10/2014 13:08

Actually, while waiting for DD in hairdressers, I sat and read through most of this thread from the beginning! It is very negative at the beginning. If Tony Grounds or others did read some of it they may be put off early on. The early part of the thread gives no indication of what it then turns into! I think we have some really interesting discussions on plot and motive and character, as well as completely justifiable lust-crazed dribblings about CJ probably the most in depth on the web (I haven't seen anything similar on Digital Spy or elsewhere) but if you were to come looking for that you may not realise it from the first few posts.

Is there anything we can do about this? I guess we could start a new thread but then we'd lose all the good stuff that's gone before. But we could reference this thread at the top of that one. Or is there a way of transferring these posts to another thread. I don't imagine there is. Thoughts?

icemist · 28/10/2014 13:16

i'm surprised Digital Spy really ignored Our Girl apart from the odd little piece and nothing at all once the series started.

I'm glad I came across this thread as I really enjoy chatting about the lucious Captain James the programme

Ilovefluffysheep · 28/10/2014 13:19

Nick Grimshaw does the breakfast show on Radio One. I listen to radio 1 all the time, but don't really like Nick Grimshaw. Will make an exception for this though!

Smurfingreat · 28/10/2014 13:30

Heeheeheee, nice work Brodies, that is exactly the sort of thing I would have done! Probably would have failed to shut up though...

Great work Iloveblue, think you should get special merit points for that sterling effort.Grin

icemist · 28/10/2014 13:32

watching episode 4 when they are in the compound. CJ watches Smurf go into the other room to talk to Molly, leaves it a while then comes to check probably, whats going on- don't think he knows Molly has the ring- must be getting to him. Wonder why Smurf listens or watches? Is is because he thinks they are talking about him again? Or does he check up because he suspects there is sonething between CJ and Molly
So many questions and no real answers!!!

Smurfingreat · 28/10/2014 13:40

Good point Icemist, was so busy drooling over that kiss that this hadn't occurred to me. Obviously we need Smurf to find out so he can go nuts, but it is a bit strange that he decides to spy on Molly and CJ. I don't think Smurf would have suspected something is going on between them, his hero worship of CJ is so strong that I don't think it would ever have occurred to him that love is stronger than army regulations! His reaction does also seem to be genuine shock. Really not sure.
