jcscot - we need you on the next series as the military advisor! I do think though that we've all spotted things we know just wouldn't happen in real life. The "do you love me" scene when they discover Sahail is just ridiculous and we all know it. It's a drama, not a documentary though, isn't it? Holby isn't typical of hospital life I am sure (though I am an avid viewer) and who in their right mind would send their children to a school like Waterloo Road? That said, this thread has gone deeper and more meaningful since the series finished and it's a means of discussing our mutual love interest and I guess, a form of escapism. It's not as if any of us are going to marry CJ/Ben, however much we might fantasise about it.

I really thought that now the series has ended, I would have started to get back to normal but I am still watching the episodes with amazing regularity. I don't even need to watch them in sequence and.... how sad is this? If there's a pause in the dialogue - the scenes between CJ and Molly anyway - I can quote word for word what is coming next. Do I need to see a therapist do you think?

Watched Points of View - hopes dashed of seeing any more CJ/Ben clips - but pleased they've not ruled out another series. All the contributors to the piece were women, did you notice? Of course you did!

cherin · 26/10/2014 22:32

I know, I know! (I said that they meant well ;-)
But what makes Molly stand out, for good and for worst in the story, is that she thinks and acts differently. She admits weakness. She befriends the enemy. She laughs when she shouldn't.
Most of these traits are entirely feminine, and surely are part of what attracted CJ (the look during the blister scene is pure lust, though. Just him taking him her looks, I think ;-)
Soo, in essence I would have preferred if she wasn't simply "assimilated" but more "acknowledged".
Technicalities. I'll shut the cake hole now ;-)

mandy214 · 26/10/2014 22:39

I love I'm joining the queue for the therapist. Have been logging on to fan fiction at hourly intervals which I have only discovered this week, but I am getting my fix through that besides downloading the episodes and listening to the soundtrack on a loop.

PassTheCremeEggs · 26/10/2014 22:43

Oh dear Mandy - are you me? Sounds like an exact replica of my week...

Ilovelblue · 26/10/2014 22:47

Just one thing that's puzzled me, I meant to ask this question before. They had the hospital scenes where he says he's resigning his commission 22 minutes into episode 5 but then appears at Smurf's funeral in uniform so is he still in the army at this stage? He talks at the restaurant about his rehab so I have presumed he is still in. Clutches at straws here. Maybe he decides not to resign or he goes for a role which doesn't involve front line duties?

I just cannot get this series out of my head. I am totally hooked like some soppy teenager. Help me!!

jcscot · 26/10/2014 22:51

Resigning a commission (PVR) takes at least six months (minimum amount of notice you must give the Army).

furcoatbigknickers · 26/10/2014 22:52

If I was 19/20 i'd be very inspired by Molly and not because she bagged cpt james every cloud

Ilovelblue · 26/10/2014 22:53

Just watching the restaurant scenes again then I really need to get ready for bed and have decided that I need a form of rehab to get me weaned off this drug that is CJ/Ben. Don't think Headley Court is open to non-serving military personnel though.

furcoatbigknickers · 26/10/2014 22:53

Its actually made me whistful for my own youth and tjink whsg I can still achieve. And what my dds and dc can and will do.

PassTheCremeEggs · 26/10/2014 22:54

Leaving wouldn't be immediate. In normal circs you have to serve a year's notice after signing off, unless you can be let go earlier (if you want to be). In Capt James' case he wouldn't want to be officially signed off until all his treatment and rehab has been completed otherwise he'd on his own/at the mercy of the NHS... So I'd say there is still great potential for him to change his mind in the series (although as jcscot says - in real life having signed off in these days of large scale redundancies it's nigh on impossible to be allowed to change your mind)

furcoatbigknickers · 26/10/2014 22:54

iloveblue ive just watchec that too. If looks could talk.

PassTheCremeEggs · 26/10/2014 22:55

X post with jcscot - is it only 6 months? Thought it was a year.

jcscot · 26/10/2014 23:00

Six months unless your post can't be gapped until they have a replacement. My husband goes to a new posting in July/Aug next year and the current job holder put his papers in in October in order to leave the following April. He's not allowed to go because his replacement can't complete HO/TO until August.

Normal PVR window is six months for officers as I understand it.

jcscot · 26/10/2014 23:02

You're right though that they'd get him through recovery and rehab first before he left.

Ilovelblue · 26/10/2014 23:04

Well let's hope dear Captain James changes his mind! Otherwise like you, jcscot, I can't quite see how the series could continue.

I liked the fact that the BBC have recognised the success of the series and also that we aren't the only ones to write to them to tell them this.

klj78 · 26/10/2014 23:36

Also.. He said he was resigning his commission from his hospital bed, we didn't actually see him do it ;-) there are endless possibilities really, we are at the mercy of Tony Grounds I suppose. Still would love another series, I think it's a shame this one wasn't extended over 8 or 10 episodes, I think there was definitely scope for it.

Rhubarb01 · 27/10/2014 07:56

Hi, I'm new to MN but have been following this thread for the last ten days or so. Thanks to everyone who has posted on here. Its kept me thoroughly amused and entertained. I've been getting strange looks from the family due to all the laughter.

I felt that the series probably needed a sixth episode as episode five seemed very compressed and the timescales were a bit confusing. How much time had actually passed? For example when we move from Molly crying in the kitchen with her mum to walking through Royal Crescent I initially thought it was a dream sequence. I also found Capt James at the funeral saying to Molly, "If there's anything I can ever do to help." a bit weird as if it had been written with a slightly different storyline/ending in mind and filmed that way but then slotted in even if there had been a change of mind at a later date. Given that this has occurred after the restaurant scene etc it seemed a little cold and distant. I know it was a funeral and they were all devastated but it just struck an odd note with me (I'm probably just over thinking it). I guess I would like to have seen some of the missing scenes as well or at least the ones that we'd like there to have been. I also anticipated that there would be trouble for the parties involved about the events in ep 4 - but it seems not. I suppose budget restraints prevented a sixth episode, no one apart from Downton seems to make series longer than about 5 or 6 episodes.

Like everyone else I would like to see a second series and if our discussions are anything to go by there's plenty of scope for storylines.

BrodiesBabe · 27/10/2014 08:15

Rhubarb01, welcome. Grin This thread has provided lots of laughs and smiles and happy sighs for a lot of like-minded women. Wink

Thanks for your interesting comment. I agree that there were some moments in ep 5 that sat a little oddly. It's got me thinking ...

Do you possibly think that the final scene after the credits was filmed after it was wrapped? Perhaps they filmed that very recently in light of the audience's response to the Molly/James storyline. When they found out that everyone was rooting for them they may have wanted to firm up their relationship a bit and so got Ben and Lacey together for half a day's filming in Bath (or less) to do it. Seems unlikely, but it would fit perhaps. Just a thought ...

ihearttc · 27/10/2014 08:19

rhubarb I am so glad you said that about the funeral scene because Ive felt that all along. CJ just seemed wrong at the funeral for some reason. Yes I get that they were all very upset but it seemed completely out of place compared to the scene in the restaurant.

He appeared really cold and stand offish and I agree it was an odd thing to say. I might be clutching at straws but maybe they did have a different ending in mind and then change it to the ending we got so there is more scope for CJ and Molly.

I watched Episode 4 again last night and spotted something Id missed previously. When they are in the bunker and they kiss and it goes out to Smurf again and then back to CJ and Molly as they pull apart he gives her a little smile. Its the tiniest of smiles but its so meaningful.

I keep finding little bits that I hadn't seen before...any excuse to keep watching!

ihearttc · 27/10/2014 08:21

Oh yes thats definitely a possibility Brodiesbabe.

Ilovelblue · 27/10/2014 08:22

Hi Rhubarb01. Welcome to the CJ Fan Club! I think we all feel the BBC short changed us!

icemist · 27/10/2014 08:28

Was reading the scripts this morning and listening to the soundtrack and nearly missed my stop!
Going to have to switch my phone off at work so I'm not tempted to look at all the photos I have of him!

Bbc tweeted some behind the scenes photos last night sadly none at the delicious Capt James ??

ihearttc · 27/10/2014 08:37

icemist I saw those pictures as well...I thought there was one where he was getting his make up touched up?

Also have you seen the "letters" from the characters on the BBC Twitter page? The one from CJ says that the medic is the only one he will let pop his blisters which I thought was rather funny!
