Just bought the original pilot from iTunes and watched it tonight as got interested in Molly's backstory. It's really good, and Lacey Turner does an excellent job. I do hope she doesn't languish in EastEnders having returned!

Of course now that I have the backstory fresh in my mind, I am tempted to put episode 1 on again!

The soundtrack is growing on me too - I love the song that comes on when they leave the restaurant, to finally make it up to his bedroom in Bath. Who sings that?

So glad there's a little contingency from here going to the carol concert! Exciting!

PassTheSherry · 26/10/2014 01:47

Must calm down and stop using too many exclamation marks... Blush

PassTheSherry · 26/10/2014 01:12

So...am watching ep1 again - did anyone notice how BA slightly went into a South African accent when he addresses the new recruits in the carrier plan to Bastian? "All don your full protective clothing including helmets!" Must be picking up the local accents of crew members!

klj78 · 26/10/2014 01:27

Oh dear, I've had to watch it again! Yes you're right, definitely an accent there!

icemist · 26/10/2014 07:24

Morning. I've downloaded the first 2 episodes to study in greater detail before they are taken off Iplayer later. That should keep me going until the dvd arrives. I would love if there are deleted scenes on it but I don't think there will be.
Am very jealous of the carol service! Have joined the mailing lists for Manchester theatres incase he comes up here for a play.
Having looked up photos of his earlier career he most definitely is getting better looking as he gets older!
I fear I am mixing the character with the real person though

lyndie · 26/10/2014 07:43

It is definitely the character Captain James I like but I am interested in his future career. I think he we good in period drama, Downton or similar.

Richtea19 · 26/10/2014 09:03

I have just downloaded from ITunes Ep 1,2,3 and 4. Hoping that 5 will be available soon as I love the restaurant scene and the very nearly there kiss on the bed, god I wish there was full contact!

Thoughts of when CJ fell for Molly: when he asked her to do his blisters. He respected her for telling him about Smurf and whether he was in the right frame of mind. She wouldn't say anything bad about him just he was a good solider. The way CJ looked at her, pure melt!

for info Just seen an advert on bbc for a new drama The Passing Bells, WW1.

ihearttc · 26/10/2014 09:09

Lyndie he was in Lark Rise to Candleford-I put a video on earlier in the week of it. He played someone called Daniel Parish.

Richtea I actually watched Episode 1 yet again last night and was really struck by how he looked at her while she was doing his blisters. You can tell how much his feelings for her are growing...and I agree that look is pure melt!

icemist · 26/10/2014 09:18

Definitely starting to appreciate her from when he asked her the question after their first patrol. It's a pity we never got to see the relationship developing more- I wonder how many times his blisters needed looking at or other minor ailments so he could talk to her alone.
And I'd love to have heard/seen the scene where they finally admitted they had feelings for each other after Sohail died.
Would be lovely if Tony Grounds wrote the full story so we could read the whole story

ihearttc · 26/10/2014 09:21

I actually thought last night that it would make a brilliant book that way all the scenes that we want to see could be in it.

Im waiting for the last Crossfire book to come out at the moment and normally would be really excited about that but its coming a very low second best to CJ at the moment.

Ilovelblue · 26/10/2014 10:09

I'd thought about a book too - not just the story (as riveting as I am sure it would be) but the actual making of the series too. There was something on the Our Girl Facebook page almost two weeks ago now where the makeup artist was interviewed and how she made the model of a blown off leg etc - it was gory to look at but fascinating! The BBC could make so much more of this if they tried!

Ilovelblue · 26/10/2014 10:15

Just seen this:

www.cultbox.co.uk/features/opinion/5-things-wed-like-to-see-in-a-second-season-of-our-girl

Do we agree with the suggestions? Not entirely sure these are totally in line with our discussions but not far off perhaps.

BrodiesBabe · 26/10/2014 10:25

Looking at all the coverage about our troops leaving Bastion. Quite emotional for all sorts of reasons, but it is making me think of one person in particular. Probably wrong but I can't help it.

mandy214 · 26/10/2014 11:51

passthesherry the song that plays as they leave the restaurant is called Stay by Lewis Watson (its on the spotify link that was posted above). Its beautiful. I am trying to find out whether the songs on the sound track, including the title song, were written especially for the series because they seem so apt. The lyrics are amazing. But no to the South African accent - my H is SA so am pre-programmed to detecting a South African twang - I think he still sounds more Sandhurst than Cape Town but I'm attracted to either.

icemist I am in Manchester too Smile please let me know if your mailings promise any personal appearances up north!

Homework question I think she's on his radar right from the start - as soon as he spots her smirking in the photo line up and her laughing as his slang. The way he singles her out in the tent, making fun of her saying its stags only, then humiliating her when she has her PT kit on. I think subconsciously he wants to challenge her, find out more about her. Obviously part of that initially is how she'll fit into the platoon, but I think he's interested in her immediately. I think as she begins to earn his respect (after she's singled out by the sniper, how she raises the issue of Smurf, how she sticks up for him whilst he's having his blisters dressed) it becomes more. I agree that the looks he is giving her and his smile when she says shes "the nuts" are very telling. She cements that when she challenges his orders when she's telling him she can get to Smurf, you see his hesitation.

We'll have to all watch episode by episode and then discuss on here after each one.

I am now debating whether or not to print off my fave photo of him and send it to his agent to see if he'll sign it. That would be going on my bedside locker!!!

icemist · 26/10/2014 12:14

Mandy124 I will certainly update on any appearances.
Only 8 days till the DVD will be delivered- cannot wait

mandy214 · 26/10/2014 14:09

Nappy its at the end of the blister-dressing scene starts at 34 mins 11 seconds into Ep 1. She says she'll get the blisters dressed so he can get back to running them around the compound. He says something like pretends she doesn't know it word for word"well lets see how good a medic you are Dawes" and she replies "The nuts, Sir". I think her feistiness, her quiet determination, the way she'd already befriended Bashira (evidence of a good heart / intelligence about what the tour / mission was about), her kind of deprived-background-trying-to-do-something-good approach (after she'd admitted she hadn't passed her geography exam at school) all piqued his interest in her as more than just a soldier. I think the blisters scene is the first time they get physically close, you can see him watching her, looking at her face and when she says The Nuts line at the end, he's a gonner Smile.

PassTheCremeEggs · 26/10/2014 14:18

This is the face isn't it Mandy?!

(swoon..)

Our Girl
Richtea19 · 26/10/2014 14:32

I think that has to be the best face he does. I love the way he looks at her up and down and his eyes are on her even when she is looking down. He does this wonderful smirk, laughing under his breath. He does the same sort of look in Ep 5 when he pulls the chair out for her in the resturant. Again looking at her all the time, feasting his eyes. It's almost a look of want and lust... Sorry having a fantasy moment!

I have been reading the scrips on and off today, really interesting. I do think I could read through without scrips by now!

Football on TV taking over our house shortly, so im going to take myself off upstairs with the ipad and do a bit more homework. My mission is facial expressions and reading into what he is thinking when looking at Molly along with all those wonderful things he does with his mouth!

threadNneedle · 26/10/2014 14:42

Ok, so I have far too much time to think when I'm pram pushing (one year olds are a bit rubbish for in depth analysis of TV)

I was intrigued as to when Molly first showed signs of falling for Captain James as my previous post suggested. Mostly because I think she has been surrounded by loser men all her life who haven't appreciated her and I imagine she has quite a low opinion of men in general. I don't think she is looking for love and from what I can see from the first 2 episodes she is just looking for acceptance from Captain James.

By the time she has proved herself twice CJ is clearly seeing Molly in a new light and I think the first time she starts to get the look of love is when she is cleaning his eye after the Bashira bomb vest situation. Then the singing happens and they only have eyes for each other...sigh.

BrodiesBabe · 26/10/2014 14:54

Nice tweet from Tony Grounds!

twitter.com/TonyGrounds/status/526349269369106432

Also, just rewatched the blisters scene. Hmmm ... If she'd looked up and seen him looking at her like that she would have been a dribbling wreck for the rest of the tour. As I am now.

icemist · 26/10/2014 15:15

If 'Our Girl' was an exam subject we'd all get 'A's

Molly wasn't looking for love- you can see from episode 2 'the weight lifting' scene that she finds him physically attractive and even Smurf notices. If you watch him you can see that he's noticing the looks etc that pass between Molly and Capt James (still can't get him as Charles) and I think deep down he knows Molly likes the Capt.

I think from Capt James -she intrigues him and 'the blisters scene' onwards he finds himself falling for her. Of course he knows he shouldn't and is probably more regimented with her in public - except when the section is together. But finds himself making excuses to see her in the medic tent. I really want a missing scene after Sohail dies- then I'll be happy

ihearttc · 26/10/2014 15:35

Yep Id love to see what happens after Sohail dies as well. Something has been bugging me about that scene...why didn't they kiss? It so looked like they were about to and then he just rested his head on hers. Don't get me wrong that was lovely but I sort of feel cheated like I want more.

Also Ive just read the script for Episode 5(will read rest tonight) and it says when they are the house in Bath that he caresses her face and kisses her...but we didn't even see it cause it cut off before the kiss.

I love his face when she is dressing his blisters. You can imagine everything thats going through his mind and he definitely wants her at that moment.

Smurfingreat · 26/10/2014 15:42

I think that he desperately wanted to kiss her in the scene after Sohail dies, hence the look of distress on his face, he is warring with himself because he knows he shouldn't. That intake of breath is swoonworthy.

Just had to watch that clip again for research and now I'm a dribbling wreck again!!!
