I love Lacey Turner in this too.

Ilovelblue · 23/10/2014 20:16

jcscott and PassTheCremeEggs - I echo what others have said. It's a fascinating insight. I've been able to read these posts through the day but not really been in a position to respond to them. I used to deal with a group of ex-RAF officers in a previous job and I got used to the acronyms in the end so I guess the army is just the same - everything is littered with them!

My obsession is not fading as I (sort of) hoped it would and I find it as riveting being on here talking to my fellow CJ fans as I do watching clips of our favourite man. Had my fix already tonight.

Re his wife/child, it's hard to believe that as cherin says, it only came up at the end of the series (and the photos were hidden in a cardboard box. Whatever his (strained?) relationship with the ex-wife, it surprises me that he didn't have at least one photo of his son on display.

Anyway ladies, my news is that I have written to Ben's PR agency (Hamilton Hodell) to find out if they'll give us any information on whether he is likely to be appearing on any television or radio chat shows in the near future. I sent it around lunchtime but have not had a response so far. I'll update here if I receive a response. Here's hoping.

Like everyone else, I have never, ever, ever obsessed over a programme or character like I have over Our Girl/Captain James. Definitely like being a teenager again without the spots and greasy hair! Hormones now at the other end of the scale I fear.

He had a photo of his son on his desk next to his coffee machine in Bastion. He may well have had it at the FOB too.

Richtea19 · 23/10/2014 20:26

Thanks for the Carling advert link. Do agree that not as lovely as our CJ. I think it's becaue he was rather "clean cut" and we all do prefer him looking rather hot and sweaty! What else can we did up?

Thanks for all the army rank info. Feeling quite educated on all things army.

Christmas special would be amazing, set in Bath, in the big house with a scary staircase! Like in the Omen!

IssyStark · 23/10/2014 20:31

Also, I had, like Cremeeggs, assumed the marriage was one of necessity rather than deliberate choice. And that he was a captain i/c of a platoon because he'd volunteer de for an extra tour and they slotted him in, possibly because the platoon had a large number of inexperienced soldiers.

But lack of visible lance corporals was odd, however there are other NCOs: in the stage directions in the scripts, the corporals for 1 and 3 sections are named but they aren't speaking parts.

firegirl · 23/10/2014 20:33

So what does "missed out, wait out" mean? They said it on a few occasions when things kicked off. By the way I echo Paperbacks comments. Total respect to everyone who works in the forces and to their families.

Paperbackwriter, I am with you. No further series. Would spoil that magic feeling of budding love, which is the reason we are drawn to this story. Unless, of course, the writer is really, really good, has tons of imagination and reads (here) the appeals for more hot captain.
(I keep on thinking that they should have included a scene post-coitum where CJ brings breakfast -coco pops of course- in bed to Molly ;-)

cherin · 23/10/2014 20:52

Also, lets be honest....any further series would probably about Molly being deployed to Africa to help against Ebola (that's where thousands of real medics are going). Can't believe many lusty glances can be exchanged under goggles and rubber overalls....

jcscot · 23/10/2014 20:54

"Wait out" is used at the end of a radio transmission to indicate you're awaiting a response.

Eg: "Contact. Wait out." means that the enemy has been sighted.

mandy214 · 23/10/2014 21:02

paperbackwriter I was about to sayI completely agree with you when you said you were in awe of military families and then you went and talked nonsense suggesting there shouldn't be a 2nd series Grin. Actually I do think a 2nd series will struggle to live up to my unrealistic expectations the first series series. But I'm still not quite ready to contemplate life without more Captain James!

I was thinking last night the morning, on the tram, lunchtime, journey home to name a few that I must give credit to Lacey Turner too. She was brilliant. I loved the scenery, music - have downloaded sone tracks to my running tunes so I can think I'm on a 05.30 PT session jogging round the FOB thinking of Capt James in his combats!

I agree he's got better with age just like me Ben Aldridge because he isnt half as attractive in that Carling advert!

MamaMed · 23/10/2014 21:02

Nappy, me too. I haven't watched any today! Smile

jcscot · 23/10/2014 21:20

Regarding the radio transmissions, it's MIST, not missed. It's an acronym used to describe casualties when handing over to a Medevac/medical team.

M = mechanism of injury eg: gunshot
I = injury
S = signs eg: BP, heartrate etc
T = treatment given in field

So, when she says "MIST out," it means (as I understand it) that she's assessed and has treated/is treating the casualty and will brief the Medevac team as they arrive.

icemist · 23/10/2014 21:31

found this chat a few days ago and only getting to post now.

made me laugh with all the chat. Glad I'm not the only one with a Capt James obsession. He is sooo much better in his army combat gear. Have downloaded the scripts (all read) and is making me enjoy the series even more. The very last scene Capt James is described as 'over the moon to see her' loved it.

ihearttc · 23/10/2014 21:31

I've found some pictures of him with some girls at parties... That doesn't mean he isn't gay though obviously! If I could work out how to share them I would!

firegirl · 23/10/2014 21:32

Thanks for that explanation jcscot. It has been interesting to see the army at work even if it isn't always correctly portrayed ( I work in a hospital so I know how inaccurate tv dramas can be sometimes ). And Mandy I was also going to mention exercising since I've been watching our girl. I am so much more motivated in the gym if I imagine Captain James spurring me on and urging me to " stay with him " and to " have some human decency and put some bloody effort in" !! I knew there was a 'healthy' reason for my obsession!

icemist · 23/10/2014 21:38

Gah posted too early!!

Loved the restaurant scene and I wonder if he asked if she wanted him to choose for her because thats what his ex would have had him do. And the wife definitely knew what the ditto was all about- you could tell from the look she had.

By the time my dvd boxset gets here I'll know all the words. Kind of what I did with Top Gun...sill one of my favourite films ever!!

I have joined tumblr as there are lots of younger cough people on their who are very good at putting photos and scenes together to drool over enjoy and stuff like this

''Why do you love molly and Charles together ?

fyeahourgirl answered:

Because what she did was fucking awesome.
And she let him dip his spoon in her coco pops.
And he chose her to sing Don’t Go Breaking My Heart with him.
He got his blisters checked by her only to have a reason to be with her.
He told her to come back to him, and she said that she will.
They hold hands when he asked her to bring her the Rosabaya coffee. (And she did get it for him)
When Smurf said “Fate brought us together” her reply was “Captain James?”
He was the one holding her hand.
They might gonna need a medic, but they might already gonna got one.
She’s fond of him.
They want to be the last thing they see.
She can barely keep her hands of him.
She wanted to kiss him since the first time they kissed.
He smiled at her when he woke up after his surgery.
He never wanted to settle…until he met her.
It’s chemistry
She calls him boss man, even when his name is Charles
He loves her.
And she loves him
He tells her how strong and capable she is when she fucked up
He invites her to Christmas in Bath, to stay at his parent’s house
She won him over with her cheeky charm and personality
They are more alike than they thought
DITTO!!''

Nappy apologies for the delay in getting back to you (very extended bedtime with two boys who were extremely excited about their new bunkbeds). Anyway, the scripts are on the Beeb's writers room site

icemist tumblr does have some cool stuff on it, haven't worked out quite how it works yet though! I love the list of why Molly and CJ are so good together he's more than welcome to dip his spoon in my coco pops any time he likes.

Many things during the last episode made my day, but probably none so much as Mollies growth and success in the army. I nearly cried with pride in her.

Its actually made me feel abit down today. I loved our girl and cpt james... Heavenly. But its made me sad that those first feelings of love and extreme passion don't come back once your past the honeymoon. I love my dh and dcs with all my heart.

Also, made me ponder on having my first fairly young, i still have dteams and it wojld have been far easier to live those pre dc like Molly is.
