Not mass hysteria, a very real and troubling problem really.

Gavlarrr- I think it's safe to say that the moral compass of pedophiles is pretty off, so I don't think we can count on them to consider their families, do you?

Sick. Most of us are parents, this us a very real and worrying problem. We cannot be there 24/7 to protect them. This exposes the dangers online and brings tge reality of it to the forefront.

Indeli do you support paedophiles? As a result of this guy several paedophiles have been jailed. Even the ex police officer said his techniques work and could be used by police, if only they had more officers in this area.

Why don't the police work with Stinson to set up a proper organisation, provide training etc and help guide them so they can be of better use?

I wonder if the short length/suspension of some sentences were connected to the evidence being in the public domain.

Report
Aeroflotgirl · 01/10/2014 23:18

The actions of Stinson gave secured convictions for these individuals. I am shocked at the very short sentences. Thus isent taken seriously by the judicial system.

Right,

I was sexually abused as a child. It was fucking horrific but I surivived and continue to do so.

I do NOT agree with vigilante stuff like this. I don't think making a TV programme about it is acceptable....just a cheap thrill and voyeurism for the masses.

I dont disagree with what this man is doing and would feel much better if he just passed his info straight on to the police without the need to flog it all to Ch4 on the way.

By the way folks.....I was sexually abused within my family by two older make relatives. It's not the boogy man you need to worry about although the rise of the Internet makes it a risk, it's the loving father/Uncle/brother/cousin/stepbrother/stepfather/neighbour you need to be watching. It's far more likely your kids will be abused by one of those people than a stranger,

Oh and teach your children about Internet safety.

And amazing,y enough there are dedicated police services which do this stuff all the time. They are poorly funded naturally as we do not take children's safety seriously enough in this country.

MrsDV saying it eloquently. ...that post is exactly my point further back. The children of paedophiles had no control over their parent is, they might also be victims.

Panthingies · 01/10/2014 23:34

Indie, as far as I read isn't saying anything that is unreasonable. This viewing isn't primarily about protecting children unfortunatley - it's about sales and ratings on tv. The responses often here seem to be about feelings of self-satisfied, NOT about the victims nor the consequences on the families of the perps.

but why is he doing it not the police? if it's that easy, he can't be more techy than the resources they have available. do they not care?

Lots of reasons I think namely lack of resources, budget cuts, but if you look at cases like Rotherham, I often don't think that people see them as victims and don't really understand the how subtle grooming can be.

Sexyfothermucker · 01/10/2014 23:42

Always a case of, "who can we blame? I know. We'll blame the police"
The police force don't get the funding to support these causes. There are dedicated teams all over the country working to help children and catch these bastards. Unfortunately they have neither the manpower or the funds to do as much as they would like. If you want to blame anyone, blame Theresa May.

That programme was pretty shocking and I admire what Stinson has done. I did not feel a bit sorry for the guy who killed himself, he was a pervert and a coward and he would have been more than happy to ruin a very very young girl's life, I don't think he deserved his anonymity to be protected. Don't quite know how I feel about the situation with the ex-wife. I noticed she made absolutely no reference to what he had been about to do or why he may have committed suicide other than it was possiby Stinson's fault for exposing him. That did not sit well with me.

Also I got the distinct impression that Roger had been around that block before - the others seemed to crumble when confronted but he had a line prepared that everyone on the site had to be over 18. Yet, wasn't he the one telling the 'girl' it was very dangerous for them both due to his age and her age. How would that have been a problem if she was over 18? I can't understand how he got away with it.

Panthingies · 01/10/2014 23:48

I too admire the application to task, the organisational skills, the motivation, and the successes Stinson had. But the idea of this being a template to 'support' a financially beleaugered state police force is an abhorrent one. Handing out a 'licence' to act in these circs would be a quite scary licence.

That YT video someone linked to was completely inappropriate.

This man isn't accusing just anyone - he's actually catching men who are deliberately grooming underage girls for sex. They instigate the exchange of photos, meetups, and then turn up to the meetups with cigarettes and alcohol.

Sure, the police can't condone vigilantism blah blah - well, of course they can't or it would be anarchy.

But the policeman who took my statement about my friend's husband (who was caught because CEOP monitored the website he was using- not a million miles from this guy did), and was grooming my 5 year old daughter, told me that their resources are so low they know that for every paedophile they catch, at least 100 more go free. He'd arrested 12, in our county alone, in dawn raids during the week prior to taking my statement.

It's horrendous. People need to wake up to this.
