I believe it's back on Sunday. Hurray!

I really hope though that they focus more on Edith and less on Mary and her boring, all look the samey, suitors.

Mr Bates does know it was Mr Greene, doesn't he? Just that Anna doesn't know he knows.

PMSL at it might as well have been Isis the dog from behind the grassy knoll.

I can't see why Marigold can't be brought up to the house as one of those classic orphan/'ward' of the family type things. Admittedly everyone would then assume she was Lord 6's offspring with a maid but this was relatively common surely - to the point where Jane Austen wrote about it. It seems preposterous that Edith wouldn't confide in her mother about this but that the Dowager would know.

MorrisZapp · 20/10/2014 09:01

Smile tony danza

I'm lost with the murder storyline but happily I don't much care.

Loved Rose's new fella, she badly needs some action.

Poor old Edith, her aunt is as mad as a pint of badgers and her granny's not much better. If only she had MN, or even snapchat.

Housewife2010 · 20/10/2014 11:07

I'm waiting for Mr Bates to discover Lady Mary's device.

smokeandfluff · 20/10/2014 11:22

What happened between cora Robert and Richard e grant? Missed that bit

WhereTheWildlingsAre · 20/10/2014 11:32

Richard e Grant came to her room for a bit of nooky and as Cora was telling him to leave, Husband returned and fisticuffs in the bedroom.

smokeandfluff · 20/10/2014 11:49

Thanks! Was cora not tempted at all??

WhereTheWildlingsAre · 20/10/2014 11:55

Not even a tiny bit!

Richard e Grant did do a good speech about how Hugh took her for granted and then Hugh lamped him one, knocking over some furniture and bringing a concerned Edith to the door.

So it was all hushed up, Richard left quickly in the morning and all is frosty now between Robert and Cora.

millimat · 20/10/2014 11:56

Who do you think Edith was phoning in London?

seasalt · 20/10/2014 11:59

Great idea HoldMeCloser. Spratt might loosen up a bit after a night with Thomas!

Lord G looked hilarious rolling around the floor in that outfit.

LittleBearPad · 20/10/2014 11:59

I really couldn't care less about Greene and his murder. They can arrest, convict and hang Bates next episode for all I care. At least it would be over....

MirandaGoshawk · 20/10/2014 12:07

Bates does know that it was Greene, of course, because he bumped him off allegedly. And in last night's episode Bates said to Anna that he would always keep her safe, or some such. So why hasn't she worked out that Bates knows what happened to her? And last week she was lurking at the Eros statue in Piccadilly where the 'accident' happened, and pondering. It's all got too complicated for a Sunday night.

What I love about Downton is that they've moved on in leaps & bounds time-wise but no-one ever gets any older - they just change their fashions. Brilliant! The child Marigold looks about five but Edith gave birth last year. Smile

SirChenjin · 20/10/2014 12:08

Do you think someone was listening to Edith making the phone call? It looked as if someone was in the little anteroom, but I couldn't work out if that was just the camera angle.

MirandaGoshawk · 20/10/2014 12:11

Agree about Barrow's 'drug addict' make-up. He looks like something from Madame Tussaud's. I find that the dafter this programme is, the better. It's a shame the dowager doesn't get more lines. I loved her confusion about a nudist colony in Essex - 'But Essex is so damp'.

Nessalina · 20/10/2014 12:26

They did that weird camera angle when Mrs Pattmore & Mrs Hughes were talking in Carson's office - made it look all sinister like someone was watching! I think it's just them trying to be stylish.

Of course Mr Bates knows Anna was raped - Mrs Hughes told him! But she said that it was an 'intruder' not that it was Mr Green... But he totally knows it was. And then Mrs Hughes found a train ticket in Bates pocket from York to London on the day of the murder - she burnt it in the end I think? So she knows he killed Green but isn't sorry...

I'm afraid at this point it's pretty obvious that the police are putting Anna in the picture for the murder, but the Downton lot have done such a good job of covering up for Bates that when she's arrested he'll confess and they won't believe him!!

I think they've made Lady Mary's suitors too similar looking, I keep forgetting which one's which Confused Though chappie this week seems much more up her alley than wimpy Tony. There's no way she'll end up with Tom - we've got to have a custody struggle with little Sybil when Tom tries to leave Downton!

tribpot · 20/10/2014 12:39

Surely no-one could make a mysterious phone call in Downton and not be overheard?! I know Barrow's ill but he's not dead.

tribpot · 20/10/2014 12:41

Nessalina, what they've done with Mary's suitors this season is only put one in per episode, to make it easier to keep track. But I can't help wishing one of them would either cut his hair or be written out properly, I'm not sure whether Tony maybe has been written out, without a poignant au revoir in the rain.

SirChenjin · 20/10/2014 12:42

I wondered if it was Thomas lurking again - he always seems to lurk at the right time - and if he was going to use the information he'd gleaned from the telephone conversation against Poor Edith.

I'm sure someone upthread said there was to be a Christmas wedding - not sure who my money is on now, there are so many budding romances in Downton atm.

Nessalina · 20/10/2014 12:43

I do think Mrs C and Lord M are rather sweet, I hope they get hitched Smile

seasalt · 20/10/2014 12:48

Wouldn't Roses's new fella be expected to marry a Jewish woman?

diddl · 20/10/2014 12:48

I'm so glad for this thread.

saves me wasting time watching!

So, does anyone else not give a flying fuck who Mary marries?
In fact I give even less of a FF than I did the first time around!

If Marigold has been adopted, would there be a way of getting her back other than the farmer & his wife giving her up?

ilovehotsauce · 20/10/2014 13:05

Yes yes to spratt and Barrow humping in the Xmas special!

Whatisaweekend · 20/10/2014 14:24

LOVED Lady R's sparkly headdress at dinner. Where can I get one of those??!! Like this new man of hers! Thank goodness Miss Bumhole has gone - she was utterly ghastly. Whose do we think the wedding will be? Mrs C and Lord M? Lady R and Atticus Aldridge?

Can't wait for George Clooney to appear - but isn't it in some kind if charity special - does anyone know what/when?

tribpot · 20/10/2014 14:55

Marigold's not been adopted I don't think, I think she's been fostered with the family. Which does make a difference in terms of Farmer Barleymow's threat to whisk her away. He may be saying that because he knows Edith can't declare her parentage publicly but I don't think legally he has a leg to stand on.

diddl - couldn't give a rat's ass. JF seems to have run out of plots big time. If anyone Turkish turns up they should be very afraid.

SWIMTHECHANNEL · 20/10/2014 15:00

Did Lord 6 get that Cora was reluctant, or does he think she invited Art Man in??

diddl · 20/10/2014 15:05

i was thinking that if Marigold has just been placed there & that they are being given money, then he's getting a bit above himself saying that Edith can't see her.

She's in such a state that it would probably be a relief to tell the truth!

I assume that GC will be in the Christmas ep?
