Yes the farmer has said he realised it was hers. I don't know why they don't let Edith keep her, she's clearly not going to marry at her age, she's older and they could cope with it (well bar Lord Grantham I'm guessing).

If Anna and Bates were going to have children, wouldn't they have had one by now? I'm not great with the chronology of Downton, but they have been together forever.

Anna and Bates married in 1919 (who among us will forget the sight of them in flagrante the following morning) and it's now 1924. Anna is now 38. I don't see hordes of children in their future, unfortunately.

Would women have continued working 5 years after marriage at that point in time? And would have been very unusual not to have children by that point?

I think married servants would have been incredibly rare, but then so would marrying the servants, tolerating homosexuals and felons and knocking off Turkish diplomats. In JF's world this was all quite normal and, presumably, the sign of a society in good order.
