I love Sheridan Smith but I really don't know if I can face the topic. I do like thar era though for the clothes and music.

yes I was bit shocked too about the living together, particularly after all her resisting his advances over the years.

Question- ill try and ask sensitively.

I wasn't around in them days but in the 1st episode where she was kissing a black guy (in the cavern.)

would that have been a bit 'controversial' in those days? early 60's?

just wondered. hope it wasn't of course,

auntpetunia · 01/10/2014 22:11

According to my mum. It was outrageous to suggest that a good catholic girl from St Anthony's (local parish church on Scottie Road) would go near a black man in those days. ( mum wasuch less PC in her description!) Unless she wasn't as good a catholic girl as she made out!

diddl · 01/10/2014 22:22

i would have thought her kissing any guy in public like that was as unlikely as her living with someone!

and her dad being OK with it to Bobby!

Clawdy · 01/10/2014 23:01

Yes,her dad would not have been OK with it, and he certainly wouldn't have had that "wink, wink" conversation with Bobby about it!

furcoatbigknickers · 02/10/2014 10:42

I'd love a follow up. I wish there was more passion although was lovely to see love conquer. She was right cow though.

furcoatbigknickers · 02/10/2014 10:44

I don't get why she was with him but kept him at such arms length. There didn't seem to be that rush of first love. He seemed to grow on her. I wonder if it came after they got back together.

Onedropoflove · 02/10/2014 11:10

I'm going to sit and watch the last two now. I wonder if Cilla had any input into it?

time we all watched again Grin

MarthasHarbour · 02/10/2014 21:52

Brilliant gatekeeper! Grin

WillowWoods · 02/10/2014 22:04

That about sums her up. Poor weak Bobby having his life taken off him.

2rebecca · 03/10/2014 00:02

Having his life taken off him? He married and was the manager of the highest paid British female TV star for several years and they loved each other and by the sounds of things were very happy together for 30 years..
Yes she was a selfish cow about him not being a recording artist as well and she admits as much now but she was only young at the time and we see how long 2 people with big career plans who have to tour/ be in the public eye manage to make their relationship last. She was being realistic. She didn't say he couldn't do it, just that he couldn't do it and be in a relationship with her as that wasn't the sort of boyfriend she wanted. If she'd said "great go for it" their relationship is unlikely to have lasted more than another few months as they'd have hardly seen each other and she needed someone supportive.
He had to decide what sort of life he wanted. I don't think he was weak to choose her, choosing the recording contract would have been the easier choice, life with Cilla was much more risky when she couldn't even admit to their relationship.

Clawdy · 03/10/2014 10:03

From what I remember, far from being "poor weak Bobby", he was as hard as nails.

Davros · 03/10/2014 10:57

I think they should have called it "young Cilla" or "Cilla early doors" Grin. It was a good three, detailed episodes of a few years and then the next 40+ years were dealt with in a few captions, I hate that!

seasalt · 03/10/2014 11:05

I was sure I read somewhere that he was very controlling of her so I was very surprised that she made him turn down the contract.
I loved the house with the big staircase in the sitting room!

Onedropoflove · 03/10/2014 16:16

Yes I read he was controlling as well. Maybe that came later on? I really enjoyed it. I don't like to think of her as the cow she is supposed to be. My mother goes mad if I even try to mention it and sir cliff being gay

but what about the airline staff sites about what a diva she is?

TBH Ive mellowed a bit towards her because of this biopic and I think 2rebbecca" made a good point actually of the Bobby and the contract thing.

WillowWoods · 04/10/2014 19:47

I love your passion 2rebeccaSmile

Itsfab · 04/10/2014 20:01

diddl - Bobby didn't sign as Cilla wouldn't let him.

Itsfab · 04/10/2014 20:05

I really need to read all the posts Hmm

springbabydays · 04/10/2014 20:25

I don't think the airline forum alone is enough for people to make a judgement. Some people hate flying!

Clawdy · 05/10/2014 10:30

As CB's son was one of the producers of "Cilla" I suspect we were only ever going to get a rather rosy view of the lives involved.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 05/10/2014 19:14

Just watched the last episode. Loved seeing the Adelphi, spent many a student ball in there pissed !

AnyoneForTARDIS · 05/10/2014 19:25

Clawdy b ut it did show her being hard on Bobby (the contract thing he was offered) so I think it wasn't so rosy.

cant believe im actually defending her though!

but I guess shed have seen series before it was aired and didn't tell son or producers to take her naggy/ bratty bits out!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 05/10/2014 19:39

She didn't watch it - there was an interview with her saying she didn't want to see Bobby as she misses him so much.

Onedropoflove · 05/10/2014 21:29

She absolutely worshipped him didn't she? I don't think it was a rose tinted account at all.
