I love Sheridan Smith but I really don't know if I can face the topic. I do like thar era though for the clothes and music.

I enjoyed it as I am desperate fir almost any sort if Brit drama, too much reality and documentaries in my life (bring on Downton next week!). Bobby looked weird and ugly but I think he did in RL. I don't have an opinion on Cilla except that she can sing but dies that horrible harsh time when her voice is high, they didn't capture that. I don't care about the accents, being a due hard Lahndoner I'm used to hearing mangled accents. It happens in every programme that is location specific, remember the weird and wonderful range in Peaky Blinders? I will stick with it.

TeamScotland · 16/09/2014 13:43

I miss Brookie too Sad

Was always home in time for the omnibus on a Saturday. Watched it in my bed and had a rest before going out at night.

ppeatfruit · 16/09/2014 14:56

Well 'Bobby's ' wig looked terrible in the trailer, he should be called wiggy!! I'm in 2 minds because I like SS too but can't bear CB and her ego. Does anyone reckon I should watch it?

theliverpoolone · 16/09/2014 15:11

'fake Liverpool accents' - they'd obviously learnt by copying the real Cilla - no-one has a more fake Liverpool accent than she does Grin

VeraGrant · 16/09/2014 16:58

I think Cilla is the luckiest woman who ever lived. She has an appalling screech of a voice, and yet instead of celebrating her amazing good fortune re being in the right place at the right time, she genuinely believes she is on a par with Aretha. Who, incidentally, is a million times nicer and more humble than Cilla

VeraGrant · 16/09/2014 17:00

And as for the 'hur' and 'Clur' accent that she used with such hilarity in Blind Date...at the age of 7 I could see that was fake as all shit. No one in Liverpool has ever spoken like that.

ppeatfruit · 16/09/2014 17:31

This she genuinely believes she is on a par with Aretha I reckon she also thinks that she can compete with Dionne too!

AnyoneForTARDIS · 16/09/2014 17:48

was Bobbys brother one of the McGanns? had a McGann look about him.

yes! Doreen Corkhill and her big forehead!

was- erm- interesting. agree, they could have got authentic Liverpool actors with proper accents and a bit more lookalikes too. at one point I confused Ringo with John.

guy who played Bobby was good, lol at the mr whippy hair, true!

SS is very good. what I did like was the seemingly 'warts and all' character of Cilla, feisty and gobby.

shes certainly not popular on mn is she though? wasn't there a thread about her and airline staff?

TidyDancer · 16/09/2014 17:54

I couldn't bring myself to watch it, even though I quite like SS. CB couldn't sing to save her life. Proper nails down a blackboard cringingly awful voice. She was also a terrible presenter and a heinous witch in real life if the many many accounts are to be believed.

Mrsjayy · 16/09/2014 18:06

I thought that tardis he is maybe son of McGann

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 16/09/2014 18:25

This thread is more entertaining than the show. Enjoyed it though. I think SS is a very good actor, and she didn't disappoint there was a lot of Cilla in there (even if the hair and accents were off.)

diddl · 16/09/2014 18:50

"there was a lot of Cilla in there"

don't you mean "lorra lorra"?Blush

AnyoneForTARDIS · 16/09/2014 18:51

YeGods doncha mean the HUR and accent? Grin.

where is her awful accent from?

her songs were good, -I love 'its for you', but shed sing quiet then a caught throat loud voice.

but she seems to have many showbiz friends (which she always name drops-paul O Grady, Cliff, to name but 2). is she THAT bad?

AnyoneForTARDIS · 16/09/2014 18:52

LOL diddl , that too!

springbabydays · 16/09/2014 20:06

Why don't people like her? I clearly don't read enough celeb gossip!

Pixel · 16/09/2014 20:07

And all that screaming in the Cavern - that didn't really start til the groups became big news.

That's exactly what dh said! he is old he was there

TeamScotland · 16/09/2014 20:11

I can't stand CB but like SS. I enjoyed it, especially seeing Doreen Corkhill (not the point).

Cilla is famed on the airline crew forums for being a total dickhead (said in a Brookie accent!) on flights.

Maybe someone will come along with a link if they know the forums I mean.

Oh well I enjoyed it! Despite living in the North West for some considerable time I didn't really pick up on the quality of the Liverpool accents. Nor did the hairstyle details even cross my mind!

Another one here who is slightly puzzled by the animosity towards Cilla. She is not someone I have really thought of or seen on the TV for years.

I did like Sheridan Smith. Did anyone else see her "Who Do You Think You Are?" recently. Lovely.

MrsJayy and tardis I thought that too but I can't see him in the cast list.

ItStillLooksLikeRainDear · 16/09/2014 22:36

Kent Riley is the actor who plays Kenny. He's a scouser through & through. Probably best known for playing Zak Ramsey in hollyoaks. His was the only decent accent.

Biscoff · 16/09/2014 22:54

Apparently only one woman shagged all 4 Beatles.

TeamScotland · 16/09/2014 23:42

...everyone's got to have a hobby Grin

NadiaWadia · 17/09/2014 02:00

Damn, what happened to Aneurin Barnard? He used to be gorgeous playing Richard III in 'The White Queen'. I must be wrong, but I could have sworn he had these lovely brown eyes back then. Whereas in this his looks are meh, he's blue-eyed and has a slight hint of double chin. (Not that I am one to talk). It might be the weird bouffant blond hairdo he is sporting.

Oh well, must be the sign of a good actor I suppose, to be able to transform so completely from role to role.
