tiggytape I totally agree with you. Didn't Martha tweet that there weren't enough freezers for them all. Maybe down to the beeb economising I don't know.

Though did anyone else notice that even on Extra Slice Ian's alaska was melting dangerously (maybe sesame seeds and ice cream are not a good mix!).

I don't Louis anymore.
Selfish git.

Plockplock · 30/08/2014 12:09

That's shocking about Luis, how unbelievably selfish. I wonder if they didn't show him being partly to blame for the ruination of Iain's ice cream because he's a potential winner...

ppeatfruit · 30/08/2014 12:42

I'm inclined to think that it's all got very serious and extremely competitive (Luis I'm looking at you) It's not as if they win any money. I hope he cocks up big time next week Grin Now I'm getting serious Grin

TSSDNCOP · 30/08/2014 13:09

The new footage last night was very interesting. Clearly Iain was already having trouble with his bake.

How long do you reckon Luis had that freezer lid open to pipe all round that cake and make it look like Dougal?

The edit makes Diana look dotty at best and unrepentant at best neither of which I now believe are accurate.

The reason I fell in love with GBBO is that it's so nice and fair. Maybe the switch to BBC1 will be detrimental to the values it's fans hold dear.

TSSDNCOP · 30/08/2014 13:10

Dotty at worst

ppeatfruit · 30/08/2014 13:41

True TSSD I also noticed there was a loud sorry probably from Diana to Ian but note that it was edited out of the actual programme. WTF are they playing at?

SingaSong12 · 30/08/2014 19:36

I dislike the way the BBC is trying to ramp up apparent drama by not having enough fridge/freezer space. I don't bake but also notice that there are all struggling badly to complete on time. Is this another tactic to cause drama. If so I'd much prefer to see the quality of the bakers coming through. They already have to contend with enough.

VivaLeBeaver · 30/08/2014 19:51

I met Mary Berry today! I have all the gossip straight from the horses mouth.

The ice cream was out of the freezer for 48 seconds exactly.

Ian was slower than the others and got behind. He was the last to make his ice cream and she said that's why his wasnt set.

Diana did say sorry to him and he agrees it wasn't her fault.

He did storm out the tent but later came back.

There is plenty of freezer space for all.

VivaLeBeaver · 30/08/2014 19:52

Oh and Mary feels really sorry for Diana. She also feels sorry for Iain and said he's a really good baker who did something silly in a split second (binning it).

GimmeMySquash · 30/08/2014 20:17

Ah, Mary sounds lovely. How did you meet her?

VivaLeBeaver · 30/08/2014 20:19

She was doing a cookery demo and book signing at a country fair near me.

She's very nice, quite posh. I mean she sounds quite posh on TV but more so in real life.

GimmeMySquash · 30/08/2014 20:27

What did she make, did you get to taste it?

VivaLeBeaver · 30/08/2014 20:33

She made a pie. Didnt get to taste it. It looked good.

CalamityKate1 · 30/08/2014 23:58

I love HowardWhoWorksForTheCouncil!

Mighty Monkseal is hilarious Grin

ppeatfruit · 31/08/2014 11:23

You're lucky Viva Envy Hopefully Mary will complain to the producers about the editing. Someone should!

Egghead68 · 31/08/2014 23:57

Thanks for the info Viva ! Hope you had a lovely day at the country fair.

ppeatfruit · 01/09/2014 09:49

I'm getting obsessed, I watched the 'alaska' part of yesterdays' repeat and I have to apologise to the editors because there was a clear "Sorry Ian" from Diana. Blush

Halsall · 03/09/2014 16:24

Hmm, well I read somewhere (can't remember where now) that two of the freezers in the tent had broken down and therefore there wasn't enough freezer space, so people were frantically jostling to find somewhere to put their melting creations.

Agree that Luis keeping the freezer lid open was extremely unsporting, but.....for goodness' sake, if the above is true and you're 2 freezers down on a filmed baking comp on the hottest day of the year, and you're expecting baked Alaska, surely you (the BBC) just go out and buy 2 more freezers so at least everyone's got a chance?

It's bad enough that they never give contestants enough time to complete and decorate, hence icing sliding off warm cakes and MB and PH getting arsey about it

Come to think of it, Luis was holding open a huge chest freezer with his bake right on the bottom - why couldn't they have put some sort of shelving into it and enable more people to use the totally wasted space up above?

coffeeinbed · 03/09/2014 16:30

Wasn't more of a "Sorry Ian, didn't you have your own freezer" sort of thing``?
Not quite an apology.

TSSDNCOP · 03/09/2014 20:02

Hello!

Picklesauage · 03/09/2014 20:03
