Thought I better start another one (in case I lose you all next week!)

I agree, what a cheek to accuse Chetna of being competitive, when he came across as far more so.

I think Paul Hollywood likes (in a non sexual sense obviously) Richard and if he has his way it will be Richard for winner.

awaynboilyurheid · 02/10/2014 13:39

Agree with others saying about Nancy, really warming to her loved the male judge comment ha! she knows how to put Paul down a peg or twenty if he criticised her too much, go Nancy! saying that really like Richard too and Luis, I think Luis is the most competitive which is why he noticed it in Chetna he desperately wants it . The week he started clearing up when everyone else was busy and frazzled around him I had never seen that before wee bit gamesmanship there .

SpidersDontWashTheirHands · 02/10/2014 16:14

I don't think that Richard will win because he's been star baker loads of times and it would be too obvious. They will want to throw in a surprise at then end.

firesidechat · 02/10/2014 16:42

He's always like that awayn. I've lost count of the number of times we see everyone running around like headless chickens and Luis either calmly wiping his work surface with all his baking doneor sitting Zen like on his chair. It's uncanny.

rootypig · 02/10/2014 16:43

Oh god Paul's favouritism is so blatant. He didn't like Chetna at all. Slavered over Kate. Is totally chilly with Luis. Agree he loves Richard. Think he quite likes Nancy.

Pile of pancakes is right ppeat, the obscure tasks have ruined this series for me because I don't care. This week's technical took the piss. IT'S OK TO REPEAT THINGS! IT'S ONLY CAKE! NONE OF US REMEMBER PAST SEASONS ANYWAY!

Igneococcus · 02/10/2014 17:01

Schichttorte taste nothing like pancakes, if it does it's wrong.

ppeatfruit · 02/10/2014 17:09

I'm sure it tastes nice Igneococcus But as rootypig says they couldve repeated something or given them a real challenge like a wheat free vegan cake or something !

Spiders If as they say they only go by the weekend's bakes it could be any one of them I was surpised Richard won last weeks' but not yesterdays'! His cakes must taste bloody good! Grin

Sunnymeg · 02/10/2014 17:44

I have a sneaky feeling that Nancy will win. I think she has a lot of experience and know how and this may stand her in good stead for the final. Richard reminds me of Anne who won the first series of sewing bee, it was so obvious that she would win unless she messed up. I doubt the BBC want so obvious a victor for the first series' outing on BBC1. Luis is a perfectionist, but everything is too stylised for me. To my mind Nancy is the most representative of the home bakers who actually watch the show.

Merguez · 02/10/2014 19:04

This series is starting to annoy me. One of the things that used to be good about GBBO is watching them make stuff that was technically complicated but within the bounds of achievability in a domestic kitchen. I remember Mary's Fraisier cake one year. But this one is just getting silly with stuff no-one in their right mind would consider making at home - like Filo pastry, that stupid German 20-layer grilled cake and that rolled up pastry thing from the week before.
gaah!

riverboat1 · 02/10/2014 19:25

I agree, they really need to rethink the obscurity of some of the challenges.

Also what is the point of calling the first round the 'signature bake' if it's not something that the contestants are likely to have ever made before, let alone have their special 'signature' version of?? Who has a 'signature' baklava for god's sake?

coffeeinbed · 02/10/2014 20:27

They do push the showstopper signature nonsense too far, I think.
I agree that signature baklava is neither here nor there.

I don't mind the obscure technical challenges, it really makes the contestants think and use their knowledge and instincts.

But honestly, all the rich yeasty breads - or whatever they were called were ridiculous.

TheDietStartsTomorrow · 02/10/2014 21:50

The pancake cake looks vile. Not something I'd ever bother attempting myself.

I agree that one of the appealing things about GBBO was that I would attempt some of the bakes myself afterwards. But this years bakes have been obscure or ridiculous. Who on earth would make a tower stack of three pies. Or filo or pancake cake. And to have so many bakes that are so strange to us means I don't look forward or bother to recreate them in my kitchen.

Icimoi · 02/10/2014 22:12

They've definitely made them make filo pastry before - I think it was two or three years ago.

divingoffthebalcony · 02/10/2014 22:22

Filo was two years ago, when they made strudels.

I think they are struggling to come up with new themes for the signature and showstopper bakes. I hope they start revisiting some for future series, because the increasingly obscure themes just isn't aspirational to me as a viewer.

MissWimpyDimple · 02/10/2014 23:07

Schichttorte is amazing! My mum (German) used to make it.

Nothing like a pile of pancakes.

Getting sick of Richard. Paul really favours him. I think there have been a few weeks when luis should have been star baker and yet another week of Richard is getting boring and predictable Hmm

ppeatfruit · 03/10/2014 10:05

I thought that Chetna should've been star baker more often; PH liked her flavours. Not Luis I can't warm to him (esp. after fridge gate) he's bitchy and has an ego to match his belly Grin.

UncleSue · 03/10/2014 11:00

They are all good, think Richard to win.
Cannot understand why people get so worked up over Luis, he seems alright to me, perhaps organised and calm is seem as 'smug', weird. If it is freezergate, fgs just let it go!

MagratsHair · 03/10/2014 11:01

Luis is an arrogant prick.

Nancy has grown on me.

Richard did not deserve star baker for all those weeks.

divingoffthebalcony · 03/10/2014 11:40

Luis is very good. I would like him more if it wasn't for the passive aggressive cleaning of his station when he finishes early. I mean, surely contestants don't have to do their own cleaning? It reminds me of people at school who would finish an exam way ahead of time and sit up at their desk making sure that everyone could see they were done Grin

ppeatfruit · 03/10/2014 11:48

If Luis IS good why hasn't he won star baker? It's a mystery Grin

DinoSnores · 03/10/2014 12:22

I have no problem with Luis cleaning down. I remember Ruth in GBBO1 having finished, cleaned down and drinking tea as well. If it was me, I'd want to keep myself busy to distract myself until the end of the time!

MagratsHair · 03/10/2014 13:11

Martha should have won star baker on that key lime alaska week. Robbed she was....

ppeatfruit · 03/10/2014 13:15

Agree Magrats . I miss Martha and I'll miss Chetna

EvilEmperorZurg · 03/10/2014 13:25

Does anyone else thinks Chetna looks a bit like Keira Knightly?? Anyway I think Luis is not liked because he doesn't come across as a people person really. I like Richard because he's so affable all the time. The fact that he's a good baker makes me think he'd be a good builder so it'll do his business no harm!! You'd think Nancy should win re her being representative of a home baker but I think they'll judge it on the three bakes on the last day so who knows! I'm impressed how they manage to keep it secrte til the very end.

ppeatfruit · 03/10/2014 13:33

Maybe a bit Evil but she's got much more character in her little finger than in the whole of KK IMHO!!
