I've been watching, sometimes on catch-up, but haven't really been motivated to post iykwim? Nothing wrong with Capaldi, just the scripts have left me a little ambivalent - even if some of the ideas have been good.

That said, I re-watched Deep Breath with the kids today and some things that niggled at the time stood out more for me this time around. So I've gone from not posting to googling the bits that pop into my head and DP simply won't understand what I'm on about so I'm offloading here Wink

The first thing was the repetition of the Doctor saying "I'm all alone" and “You’re not really seeing me” (followed by "Listen" in the following ep), together with the focus on eyes and optic nerves - which reminded me of that line from the bible "They have eyes but do not see, ears but do not hear" - said by the prophet Jeremiah – who led his people OUT of the Promised Land! So is the Doctor the prophet who will lead people out of Missy's Heaven/Hell?

Also on the topic of seeing/eyes - where is Missy watching everything from? She knew there was a struggle between the Doctor and the clockwork droid, but didn't have the right view to know whether or not the Doctor pushed the droid. So where was she?

Clara said to Vastra that she wasn’t fixated on pretty boys - but Strax’s scan of her brain revealed thoughts of lots of young men doing something like sport. Then she ends up with Pink. Clara lies - maybe she's been with the Doctor too long? Or maybe her timeline became mixed up with the Doctor's during the whole timeline dive thing at Trenzalore?

Then there was the comment about Clara having a poster of Marcus Aurelius on her wall when she was a teen. Marcus Aurelius was the Roman Emperor, "good guy", stoic, philosopher – he believed it was better not to feel too deeply and to just get on with one’s duties. Explains the Danny Pink attraction?! Marcus Aurelius also wrote a book called “Meditations”, which reminds me of the Doctor on top of the Tardis.

Also - Missy’s #2 is Sebastian, which is Greek for the title “Augustus”, which was given to Roman Emperors – like Marcus Aurelius. Very tenuous and no clue whether it might mean anything!

Anyway, I have no clue whether any of that will be relevant in the finale but wanted to brain dump it before I forget Grin

Helloooo? Grin

Sone of you were right ShockWink

Jux · 01/11/2014 22:03

Interesting thoughts and observations, Troels.

This evening, I started thinking that the writers had a Tardis and were killing Pink off, having read this thread Grin and was planning on a campaign to get PCs trousers changed......

Ah well, looks like the only way that Pink will go involves taking Clara with him. She is determined to become Stepford Wife, poor thing.

HolyQuadrityDrinkFeckArseGirls · 01/11/2014 22:06

jux not to worry, I have the Doctor's trousers off. Grin

PhaedraIsMyName · 01/11/2014 22:11

More me,me,me from Clara and Pink. They are both so annoying.

PhaedraIsMyName · 01/11/2014 22:14

Wahey !!! I was right. Missy is The Master.

Jux · 02/11/2014 15:17

Holy, you're most welcome to that - I just want different trousers which don't make his legs look so fat Grin

Nerf · 02/11/2014 22:33

Was it easy to follow? Need to watch in catch up but I'm really worried it's going to start becoming all interwoven and I'll have to have a spreadsheet.

It was very easy to follow. Chris Addison was great. I think it's the one I've enjoyed the most and not just (spoiler alert)

because of what happened to Pink.

Nerf · 03/11/2014 20:17

Haha just watched the first few minutes and

Spoiler alert

I'm with you

Although actually I'm not thrilled the doctor has been such a wuss as to be walked over. Do you think I care so little for you ? Hmm.

Tbf nerf, Clara betrayed him because of her grief, not for the lolz. So I'm not surprised he forgave her.

Nerf · 04/11/2014 08:17

Yeah okay but Danny was a bit of an idiot and what happens when her nan dies? They hadn't been together long so what else might she do? Torch the tardis?

HolyQuadrityDrinkFeckArseGirls · 04/11/2014 08:27

Well, her grandma will be fine; she'll ho on to Benidorm.

TroelsNextCampaignManager · 07/11/2014 13:11

We've been a bit quiet this year, no? Appreciate I'm as guilty as anyone, mind, you, but feel it's a bit of a shame, really.

One of the problems for me has been Clara's characterisation - it's been really jerky. Now maybe that reflects Clara being a kind of disjointed personality after the Impossible Girl events, or maybe she is under the influence of Missy (if so why did she not recognise her as the woman from the shop - was the forgetting worm used again?!) - eg she decides that she is leaving the Tardis to be with Danny but then Missy's mind control kicks in again and all of a sudden she's lying her head off to all and sundry in order to keep going.

I do think The Doctor has sussed that all is not what it seems, though, hence him being on-guard for the sleep/dream patch, and that is why he agrees to take Clara to Danny, because he thinks it's the only way to resolve whatever is going on - rather than him being a push-over.

I have to confess I did think Gomez was going to be you-know-who, but was hoping she would be someone else as it was too obvious! Bit of a repeat of River in that sense. Still, she is fantastic and I really hope her stint isn't over tomorrow night - I'd love her to come back and torture the Doctor some more!

The Dr Skarosa thing surely is a hint toward the other metal menaces, though??

Nerf · 07/11/2014 14:52

I'm just hoping Danny really is gone tbh. Can't stand him.agree Vlara doesn't really add up as a character

Have you seen this?

Peter Capaldi's message to an autistic 9 y.o. fan who was struggling with the Doctor's regeneration.

Apologies if it's already been posted, I can't read very well at the mo, I seem to have something in my eye.

Pixel · 08/11/2014 19:50

Is it me or is he getting more like Tom Baker?

Fuckerysmuckeryboilsnspornery · 08/11/2014 20:23

Evening, can't find t'other thread, so crashing here. I've been spdisappointed so far, mainly with Moffats stories. Think they have been all filler.
However-these last two have been great. Dark as they should be, developing the story arc nicely. And Missy is fantastic.
No no, don't go over to her.

TroelsNextCampaignManager · 08/11/2014 21:05

When the Brig saved his daughter, I wept Sad

TroelsNextCampaignManager · 08/11/2014 21:06

Loved Capaldi's vid to that little boy, btw - so well done!

And still want Missy to return Grin

awaynboilyurheid · 08/11/2014 21:07

This was so good ! missy has to come back she was brilliant will be sad to see Clara go out storyline liked her a lot but Peter C is excellent that is all

PenguinBear · 08/11/2014 21:17

Can't believe that was Clara's ending.... How will she help that boy find his parents without the doctor? Can't believe she will never be his companion again. Is she defiantly gone for good? What about earlier in the series when it looked like her and Danny had had children in the future?!

RustyDalek · 08/11/2014 21:21

Did you turn off as soon as the credits started, Penguin? If you did, you missed something - I don't think Clara's gone for good - I think she'll end up having a baby on Christmas Day...

lordStrange · 08/11/2014 21:34

Giving this a meh.

Horrible acting everywhere, big old panto performance from missy.

Grisly and morbid storytelling. Where's the fun gone? Where's the doctor's swagger? Meh.
