I've been watching, sometimes on catch-up, but haven't really been motivated to post iykwim? Nothing wrong with Capaldi, just the scripts have left me a little ambivalent - even if some of the ideas have been good.
That said, I re-watched Deep Breath with the kids today and some things that niggled at the time stood out more for me this time around. So I've gone from not posting to googling the bits that pop into my head and DP simply won't understand what I'm on about so I'm offloading here
The first thing was the repetition of the Doctor saying "I'm all alone" and “You’re not really seeing me” (followed by "Listen" in the following ep), together with the focus on eyes and optic nerves - which reminded me of that line from the bible "They have eyes but do not see, ears but do not hear" - said by the prophet Jeremiah – who led his people OUT of the Promised Land! So is the Doctor the prophet who will lead people out of Missy's Heaven/Hell?
Also on the topic of seeing/eyes - where is Missy watching everything from? She knew there was a struggle between the Doctor and the clockwork droid, but didn't have the right view to know whether or not the Doctor pushed the droid. So where was she?
Clara said to Vastra that she wasn’t fixated on pretty boys - but Strax’s scan of her brain revealed thoughts of lots of young men doing something like sport. Then she ends up with Pink. Clara lies - maybe she's been with the Doctor too long? Or maybe her timeline became mixed up with the Doctor's during the whole timeline dive thing at Trenzalore?
Then there was the comment about Clara having a poster of Marcus Aurelius on her wall when she was a teen. Marcus Aurelius was the Roman Emperor, "good guy", stoic, philosopher – he believed it was better not to feel too deeply and to just get on with one’s duties. Explains the Danny Pink attraction?! Marcus Aurelius also wrote a book called “Meditations”, which reminds me of the Doctor on top of the Tardis.
Also - Missy’s #2 is Sebastian, which is Greek for the title “Augustus”, which was given to Roman Emperors – like Marcus Aurelius. Very tenuous and no clue whether it might mean anything!
Anyway, I have no clue whether any of that will be relevant in the finale but wanted to brain dump it before I forget
