"I am sure they enjoy being smacked?" WTF???

MrsBadger · 21/09/2006 21:44

it said 'if you think I'm a bitch then f**k off'

DontlookatmeImshy · 21/09/2006 21:44

Oh godthisone would have my mum coming out with

"common as muck!"

MamaMaiasaura · 21/09/2006 21:45

I dont smack and am proud. They said those kids were smacked 20 times in 5 days on average. That is 1826 smacks a year! ffs

OK this may be the extreme.. I still thinking even a bit of 'light' smakcing is wrong. It is like a man saying i only slap my wife occasionally.

Argggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Just does my head in

WestCountryLass · 21/09/2006 21:46

8/9 years old, out pissed at 11pm!!!!

MrsBadger · 21/09/2006 21:48

missed the eyebrow woman before

'you got smacked because you were... playful'

and the fish slice
golly

MoreTeaAnyone · 21/09/2006 21:48

Only wathced 5 minutes but couldn't watch any more. Those poor kids. The parents have no other skills to use.

MamaMaiasaura · 21/09/2006 21:49

Juessicasmummy, thing is they may have started with that attitue. The nappy doesnt stay for ever protecting the bum and the behaviour can get way more challenging when they start school.

If you set a president that smacking is acceptable the limt can become blurred.

I hope this documentary enables parents who do smack see where and how out of control it could get (perhaps not with their kids, but when their kids have their own babies).

Just because parents maybe pro-smackers now there is NO shame in saying that it perhaps isnt the best mehtod of punsihment and actually stop smacking from now on.

Blu · 21/09/2006 21:50

I suspect that Mitchell's mother might watch this and be horrified...unless her bullying dh persuades her to his pov - in order to assuage his own guilt - i,e he isn't the only one to be in the wrong.
He has NO understanding of his little boys needs, has he?

Bugmum · 21/09/2006 21:50

Awen - I can't even continue to read about it here, so am off to bed. You are right, though: a smack is a smack

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 21/09/2006 21:51

I will admit to feeling really guilty, and i will try my god damn hardest to restrain myself from now on - in fact, Jess is understanding more and more each day and time out on a chair has worked wonders today.

I can honestly say I dont think i will smack anymore.... i dont want to turn out like one of those mothers/fathers.

mysonsmummy · 21/09/2006 21:51

see he just said if it wernt his mum hitting him he would have punched them - what is she teaching them. oh god shes crying now.

god mitchells crying out for attention!

MamaMaiasaura · 21/09/2006 21:51

nite nite bugmum - take care x

MamaMaiasaura · 21/09/2006 21:53

good for you jessicaandrebeccasmummy. I think that it a really great attitude to take. xx

AllyC71 · 21/09/2006 21:53

I still say that this is not smacking .. it's hitting. I have smacked my wee one on the hand but it was abso-bloodly-lutely nothing .. nothing like this. These people are hitting and most seem to be hitting because of their frustration and inability to be in control as a parent. Sickening.

Joolstoo · 21/09/2006 21:53

they are real run of mill families eh?

as I suspected - just like the extended bf prog - sensationalist with real extremes

mumfor1standfinaltime · 21/09/2006 21:54

The programme does make you think doesn't it? Whether you smack or not. I have only ever tapped ds on the hand if he touches the oven or the hot tap things like that and I say 'no'.
I certainly don't want to smack him.

redbull · 21/09/2006 21:54

i wanted that boy to grab the egg flip?spactula of his mom and wack her with it, god its so sad he looks a bit like by brother at that age i just want to give him a big hug and say to his mom OI SORT YOUR EYEBROWS OUT

oops · 21/09/2006 21:55

Message withdrawn

DontlookatmeImshy · 21/09/2006 21:55

I have been abitof a fence-sitter where smacking is concerned but watching this has made me determined not to smack ds. Once you step over that line where isthe next boundry?

MamaMaiasaura · 21/09/2006 21:55

Joolstoo - I actually think that there are a hell of a lot of families like that

Perhaps for some it would be easier to view them as extreme as it makes their own attitudes easier to keep.

mumfor1standfinaltime · 21/09/2006 21:55

Agree that most of this is hitting and not a light smack. Seems to me that it is letting out frustration for the parents.

AllyC71 · 21/09/2006 21:55

I've tapped on the hand a couple of times, maybe more than that, but only and I mean only, when DD has been in danger of hurting herself. I use the naughty sofa which she hates being sent to but she does it .. it works because I was insistent that it would work. This fish slice woman deserves a bit of her own treatment. She is waaaaay OTT.

Blu · 21/09/2006 21:56

JT - apart from eyebrow woman, (who is mad) i suspect that these families are far from 'extreme' in the context of many many smacking families.

davina99 · 21/09/2006 21:56

God someone please educate these parents, those poor children have a right not to be smacked! people have to do a degree for most jobs but theres no training to be a parent, the parents on that programme need training and those poor children need some love and cuddles, I've got 3 kids, good kids and feel awful when I shout and say sorry, I feel so so sorry for the children being smacked, what hope have they got as adults! is there anything we can do to help???
