It's been a while since we had a WW thread so here we go again!

Be warned, if you've not watched the whole series, you may come across spoilers.

So, favourite episodes/quotes/characters?

For me, favourite episodes: Two Cathedrals and The Supremes, plus numerous others!

Quotes: too many to mention! Bartlett's monologue in Two Cathedrals; Josh and CJ going head to head on many occasions; Toby's "Did you trip?" Grin

Characters: all of them! Except Mandy Wink

Oooh, I've never got onto one of these threads before.

I agree Two Cathedrals is pretentious tut. Especially the Latin.

I adore Josh and Donna. I know there are all sorts of arguments against them getting together and I do think Josh is a terrible, terrible person. But, but ...

In fact, I just plain love Donna.

I do love the 'so far up your ass' quotation from CJ. Also her put-downs of Toby, including when he's mansplaining to her about how she should support him and she replies 'you get my support the same way I get yours: when I agree with what you're saying, or when I just don't care what you're saying'. Also the genius bit where Sam is wittering on about how it's unfair there are bathrobes in the women's shower room and not the men's, even though there are far more men than women working in the White House. 'And it's the bathrobes that are outrageous?' Grin

I find Abby increasingly annoying as the series goes on, is that just me?

Don't like Sam. Especially the bits where he gets self-righteous. He's not a good enough actor to pull it off.

You can kick me off the thread now ...

Muskey · 21/07/2014 20:16

I love the episode when president Bartlett pardons the turkey. In fact all the thanksgiving episodes are really funny

Cherrypi · 21/07/2014 20:23

Husband bought me whole series for Christmas and has never seen it. I've not seen season seven. Definitely working through them when toddler goes to nursery when I'm 7 months pregnant.

FrankelandFilly · 22/07/2014 19:13

Josh: Toby, come quick: Sam's getting his ass kicked by a girl!
Toby: Ginger, get popcorn

Grin

"One last thing, while you may be mistaking this for your monthly meeting of the Ignorant Tightass Club, in this building, when the President stands, nobody sits"

I miss the WW....

middlings · 23/07/2014 09:48

Pig that was brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. And so beautifully followed up by "Toby, that's how I beat him"

Take that "Dr" Jenna!!

Bearleigh · 23/07/2014 13:44

We're another WW family - we watched Santos's inaugeration last Saturday, for the 4th time. On Sunday we started at episode 1 again when Mr President cycles into a tree. It's just so good.

Isthiscorrect · 23/07/2014 18:57

Ds and I have watched all the episodes at least 4 times. Now he has left for the summer and then uni we have hatched a plan to watch at the same time and Skype at the same time.

Love Sam, and Stackhouse filibuster gets me every time.

cookiefiend · 23/07/2014 19:15

At uni I did not have a television. On my first date with a guy he had sky and had recorded the new season on the west wing. I went back with him, stayed watched it, stayed over Blush and 12 years on ewe are married with a beautiful DD.

Thanks west wing!

ToniWol · 23/07/2014 19:21

Ooh. Another household that re-watches the DVDs (I suspect we're due for another run through about now, but we're in the middle of a Babylon 5 re-watch instead).

CJ is just brilliant (such a funny lady - can't help thinking Alison Janney would get on well with Miranda Hart). The "I ha' Woot Canaw!"

I tend to like the Christmas eps, and DH is a Toby fan (he likes the babies come with hats monologue). But as it's been a while I can't think of any other moments off the top of my head.

The speech that sends shivers down my spine is

"…More than any time in recent history, America's destiny is not of our own choosing. We did not seek nor did we provoke an assault on our freedom and our way of life. We did not expect nor did we invite a confrontation with evil. Yet the true measure of a people's strength is how they rise to master that moment when it does arrive. 44 people were killed a couple of hours ago at Kennison State University. Three swimmers from the men's team were killed and two others are in critical condition. When, after having heard the explosion from their practice facility, they ran into the fire to help get people out. Ran into the fire. The streets of heaven are too crowded with angels tonight. They're our students and our teachers and our parents and our friends. The streets of heaven are too crowded with angels, but every time we think we have measured our capacity to meet a challenge, we look up and we're reminded that that capacity may well be limitless. This is a time for American heroes. We will do what is hard. We will achieve what is great. This is a time for American heroes and we reach for the stars. God bless their memory, God bless you and God bless the United State of America. Thank you."

(I copied and pasted that- not quite sad enough to remember it!) from 20hours in America.

TheBogQueen · 23/07/2014 21:11

What about:

"We changed time zones?WE CHANGED TIMEZoNES?"

LRDtheFeministDragon · 23/07/2014 23:18

Ohhh ... I must admit, cookie, I can't stand that speech. It's so teenagery. And then Mallory quotes it back at him as if it's Great Oratory.

I think they do so much better when they don't show the President speaking, just have tiny bits of response to something he's said.

I adore the whole 'time zones' episode, though. Grin And the music is perfect.

GrouchyKiwi · 24/07/2014 08:57

Oh, that reminds me! I love the one where Donna's briefly Canadian.

Inertia · 24/07/2014 09:15

Time for another rewatch - am getting WW nostalgia.

TheBogQueen · 24/07/2014 13:18

I so loved the one where josh takes over from CJ and 'briefs' the media

SweetDreamsAndFlyingMachines · 28/07/2014 18:52

All these are making me so nostalgic - time to rewatch, I think. Thank you for starting this thread!

FrankelandFilly · 28/07/2014 19:46

The one where CJ, Donna, Amy and the First Lady get pissed is very funny.

On S2 already for the bajillionth time Blush

Josh you may have but Sam and Santos are mine!!! Wine

Zamboni · 28/07/2014 21:26

I love the WW and adore Josh and CJ. May have to rewatch for the millionth time. Such wonderful writing.

I love it when Josh falls a bit in love with the female justice they are mock considering for the Supreme Court.

And "I work at the White House" after Toby loses a bet to Josh.

It just has everything. I don't think I will ever love a tv show as much as TWW.

howdoyousolvethisproblem · 28/07/2014 21:31

I love love love the west wing. I quote bits from it nearly every day and constantly annoy dh by watching in a loop. Love all the bits with Charlie and the president, especially Charlie's tax return and the map of Palestine, very topical ATM!!

LRDtheFeministDragon · 28/07/2014 21:56

'I love her mind, I love her shoes'! Grin

Josh, never afraid to be metrosexual.
