Do they always go off the court- don't they just sit there and wait for the presentation?

Raahh · 05/07/2014 16:56

I remember Martina beating Jaeger- it was a very non-event. I have a feeling Bouchard may fare better than Andrea.

Bouchard comes across a bit too confident, but her time will come to win a GS.

I hope she doesn't join the Serena/Shriky diva club. Tennis.

sobs! only one day left!

well don't Errani and Vinci. Best ladies doubles team atm.

RAFAnderpants · 05/07/2014 17:02

well DONE. not well don't. duh!

Fiderer · 05/07/2014 17:16

Private Eye had a list of women hopefuls this year, it included:

Yelp Shreek
Squiki Scrima
Grunta Grona

Raahh · 05/07/2014 17:17

It's a good match so far

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 05/07/2014 17:54

I think it's the sort of confidence that's is fine elsewhere, but doesn't sit well in a understated British modesty sort of way, IYKWIM. It's more of a 'I am good enough to do this if I push myself and work at it' than a 'look at me. Look how good at tennis I am' so hopefully she can avoid the Serena/Shrieky diva club.

Rafanderpants · 05/07/2014 18:48

Agree rafa.

Mind you laura Robson also comes across as up her own arse, at least Bouchard follows it through!

Provencalroseparadox · 05/07/2014 19:07

Sock and Popsock 2 sets to 1 up!

Raahh · 05/07/2014 19:21

Yay! Go Socks !

I think it is good that Petra won. Apart from it being a pleasure to see a display of power hitting in women's tennis without the girly shrieks, Genie possibly needed a lesson in not believing her own headlines and will probably be all the better for it in future. Her self confidence and self belief was almost shading into arrogance even granted the tradition across the pond that allows people to show more positivity than we like to see here. Maybe she should win a couple of slams before she displays such a level of confidence.

And for God's sake I am sure the organisers of the Slams could make room in their schedules for women to play 5 sets. It's not as if their wombs are going to drop out if they do and then they might deserve equal prize money. Plus, it gives the opposition a better chance to come back from two sets down - a luxury the men have in the Slams.

LaVolcan · 05/07/2014 20:11

I agree grimletart, Petra played well, but Genie's first serve let her down and she can't put that down to being outplayed by Petra.

I can't see why they don't have best of three for men and women until the quarter finals and then best of five for both. Maybe it will come in time.

I wish they could ban the shriekers too. At least neither this afternoon were shriekers, which was a blessing.

DramaAlpaca · 05/07/2014 20:22

The Popsocks have just won the Men's Doubles Grin. Fantastic result & a brilliant match.

YY grimbletart agree with you completely, both paragraphs.

Provencalroseparadox · 05/07/2014 20:25

Screeching again. Bloody Jack Sock. Amazing

MirandaWest · 05/07/2014 20:25

Just saw the last bits of the men's doubles - very glad the Socks won Grin

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 05/07/2014 20:47

Hooray for the Socks.

noddyholder · 05/07/2014 20:52

Everything crossed for federer for tomorrow. Bouchard couldn't cope with the level of kvitova. Agree about the halep match the foot injury and the crowd disturbance finished it for her. I think Bouchard was probably a bit rattled by all the bad press too. She is good but something about her makes me think she will not be the champion they are predicting.

DuPainDuVinDuFromage · 05/07/2014 20:55

Well done popsock! Smile

Last day tomorrow, what will we fill our time with on Monday?!

Raahh · 05/07/2014 21:00

I am in denial about it finishing. It is weeks to the next tournament. And I will have to go back to score-refreshingSadGrin

Fortunately, I have doctors appointments, and a school assembly on Monday, so that will fill some time.

Never thought I'd see the Bryan clones get beat at a major but hats off to the Sock and his puppet. That was just brilliant tennis.

DramaAlpaca · 05/07/2014 21:06

So Raahh, are we sticking with this thread tomorrow, or can you think of a snappy title for a new thread? Grin

I am sad about Wimbledon ending, but at least I have the Tour de Yorkshire/France to keep me occupied for the next three weeks.

Provencalroseparadox · 05/07/2014 21:16

I was bereft on middle Sunday so god knows how I'll be on Monday.

Commonwealth Games starts soon?

DramaAlpaca · 05/07/2014 21:23

Oh yes, Commonwealth Games! Bring it on!

Raahh · 05/07/2014 21:26

Drama- given the brevity of this thread, it seems a bit wasteful to start another.Grin

But tomorrow will be better?

It might be one of the best finals EVER*
It's got to last more than 55 minutes, anyway!

*that Nadal wasn't in
