I can't decide! MG for me veered between really good and really annoying. Loved her clothes tho. Is she in a relationship with the nanny?

what makes you think burned face man is the same man who was burned when nessa was captured? surely he died?

WipsGlitter · 08/08/2014 16:43

I think the Hugh's wife story is a red herring.

I think Attika is a baddie.

I think scar face man callee either her or Nessa for help.

I'm a bit lost with the story line re the new contractor. Is he Isreali or Palestinian?

WipsGlitter · 08/08/2014 16:47

Well it's a bit if a massive coincidence that a character got his face burnt and then a few episodes later a character with a badly burnt face appears. I thought at the "trial" they says something about his son being banished.

Pinkfrocks · 08/08/2014 16:52

we'll see then- but the soldier who was guarding nessa etc was consumed in a ball of fire- he'd have more than a burnt face- he'd be burned all over and prob not have survived.

ProfYaffle · 08/08/2014 17:38

He identified himself on the phone to Nessa just after the kidnap by saying "You burned my face", plus we saw him before the first rape and it looks like the same man to me.

chopinbabe · 08/08/2014 17:50

I think it's the same man, otherwise it is just too much of a red herring. Now, I've been reminded, by ProfYaffle of the comment on the 'phone, I'm sure it is.

GypsyFloss · 08/08/2014 17:54

Looking toward to getting home and catching up.

Pinkfrocks · 08/08/2014 17:59

well the BBC special effects at the time were OTT and completely unrealistic. if anyone had had fuel poured on them like and consumed in a ball of fire, they'd be dead. I thought the whole point of that episode was to show how they managed to be freed despite killing him- strangling him then burning him.

SquidgyMummy · 08/08/2014 18:24

Pinkfrocks at the end of the last episode, you saw nessa leaving the house alone and followed by (hugh's) spook.

beginning of ep6 you saw her drunk in the bar and predatory male about to make his move. you didn't see what actually caused he injury, but he threatened to break her nose or something, so you can imagine it happened during the rape.

SquidgyMummy · 08/08/2014 18:25

the guardian blog comments are compulsive reading for people like me who are now obssessed with analysing THW

SquidgyMummy · 08/08/2014 18:31

There is an interesting thread there about Judith Steins death in childbirth (1979) when Nessa was 3. So there was another child, who knows if it survived.

Also lots of theorising about Atika. That she knew about the kidnap as she told kasim to "be brave" in episode one (I have now deleted and cannot rewatch as i have no iplayer here in france) i think it would be very interesting to rewatch.

i think she is some kind of sleeper agent, but for who? She obviously targeted Ephra first, being his translator 8 years ago. then being Kasim's mother was the perfect way to stay close to the steins.

also lots of chatter about her being burned face man's sister.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 08/08/2014 18:37

I'm only allowing myself to read the Guardian blog immediately after watching the show, otherwise the rest of my life would disappear.

I'm still a bit worried by burnt face man saying to Nessa "You burned my face..." because it was Atika who did that wasn't it? Or did I miss something?

BelleOfTheBorstal · 08/08/2014 19:11

Crace being a plant makes a lot of sense! Especially as Hugh asks her if its happened before!
And yes, Judith dies in 1979, three years after Nessa is born!

BelleOfTheBorstal · 08/08/2014 19:18

Just re-watching, I don't like the way that Francis dodges the question about Tel-Aviv.

ThursdayLast · 08/08/2014 22:03

Oh my gosh you lot are smart.
You enhance my enjoyment of this show a LOT. I have nothing to add that will enhance yours, however...

I really did enjoy the dog pissing on the bush behind Hugh Grin

I feel like I need a full length camel wool coat in my life.

I'm excited for Peaky Blinders

2rebecca · 08/08/2014 22:56

A couple of queries.

  1. I though Nessie admitted to being a lesbian last week. Why is she picking up strange blokes in bars like a manic nympho?
  2. I thought scarface was showing the gun to a girl. Were there 2 kids or just a boy in need of a haircut?
AppleSnapple · 08/08/2014 23:11

I think nessa has a secret (maybe not the secret but another one...) as when she's drunk and the mi6 man is trying to being her to hospital, she's saying ppl will sell her story etc and he says no they can't- she says something about the official secrets act and how it binds people to say nothing... I can't quite remember but it was the way she said it, quite venomously as though maybe she was bound to the act and couldn't impart a piece of info... God knows what!!

BelleOfTheBorstal · 08/08/2014 23:34

Nessa is bisexual, but the love of her life, Atika, is a women.
Burned face man was showing the gun to a boy. No idea about the official.secrets act but would not surprise me, if its affected her and Ephra's life in some way.

stinkingbishop · 09/08/2014 03:36

Good work, web women. I like the idea of A.T.I.K.A. being where to look. And Atika being a sleeper (double? she's Palestinian by birth, but an 'orphan' allegedly in Israel) agent with the Steins. Hence the eagerness of taking on Kassim. Or was she in a similar situation herself?

Agree Nessa's mother is important. As is Schlomo. As is, of course, Monica. And maybe even Angelica.

Nessa has another secret. The kidnappers said she could tell the world about the rape and Kassim. She didn't want to because it would open her to accusations of bias. But now THEY are keen the secret is kept too - so it's not Kassim.

And who is Burned Guy going to kill? Is he rescuing Kassim??

OneStepCloser · 09/08/2014 09:31

I love reading this thread, but always come away with my head spinning Grin

What a clever series though, so many possibilities, its exhausting.

LuckySaint · 09/08/2014 10:02

Someone earlier said that a pregnant woman would shoot someone... And I assumed it was Rachel shooting Atika.

But could it be Judith shooting someone in a flashback?

LuckySaint · 09/08/2014 10:03

Who do we think burned guy rang?
I know Nessa went to bed with the phone, but could he have rung Atika and asked for help?

SquidgyMummy · 09/08/2014 11:22

*Someone earlier said that a pregnant woman would shoot someone... And I assumed it was Rachel shooting Atika.

yes that was me - Hugo Blick said it in an interview. I did wonder if it was Judith too....
(Hope it's not Atika who is shot, I really hope she is a good 'un)

SquidgyMummy · 09/08/2014 11:24

Monica has a satellite phone, as does Hairy Utrecht Man - and he seems to be the operator for many people, given the number of phones he has in his flat.
