Is it just me or is anyone else struggling to hear what they are saying? I feel like I'm listening through cotton wool ear plugs.

I was just comingon to say I'm sick of the mumbling. I've turned the TV up so its not that and its not the accent either. Spoiling it.

Retropear · 21/04/2014 21:14

Us too.

Not devoting 3 nights to it,that's for sure.

BigW · 21/04/2014 21:15

Yep, DH just moaned that he couldn't hear a thing.

Retropear · 21/04/2014 21:19

The aunt is too glamorous too.

VivaLeBeaver · 21/04/2014 21:19

Can't understand how they can spend so much money filming it and when they do previews or whatever how come someone doesn't realise the sound needs tweaking?

Maybe they think it adds to the rustic spirit? Hmm. I thought there was a funny near constant hum but I think its meant to be wind noise. Which makes it worse.

AtYourCervix · 21/04/2014 21:20

The sound is turrible.

thenightsky · 21/04/2014 21:21

phew... I thought my telly was on the blink Grin

bleedingheart · 21/04/2014 21:21

Awful. Couldn't watch it and I was looking forward to it too.

VivaLeBeaver · 21/04/2014 21:23

I know, I've been looking forward to it all week.

Ingles2 · 21/04/2014 21:24

Hah! We thought exactly the same here. the Sound is dreadful.. Am upstairs mnetting now, can't be bothered to strain to hear it

MrsJohnDeere · 21/04/2014 21:24

Given up on it here.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 21/04/2014 21:25

Just looked for this thread to see if anyone else was struggling to understand the dialogue! Glad it's not just me.

PrinceRogersNelson · 21/04/2014 21:26

I've had to put subtitles on.

AtYourCervix · 21/04/2014 21:31

Mumbly.

And muddy.

WetAugust · 21/04/2014 21:32

I gave up 12 minutes in. Couldn't hear it and am fed up peering into the darkness to try to see what's going on.

Whoever directed this should be sacked.

Ellenora5 · 21/04/2014 21:35

Same here, haven't a clue what they are saying or what is going on, not going to bother with now, 35 minutes is enough

fruitpastille · 21/04/2014 21:36

I even tried subtitles but none available.

Dumplings4ever · 21/04/2014 21:36

Ive had to put subtitles on

Carnationmilk · 21/04/2014 21:37

Sound is crap and is it just me or have they changed bits?

Dumplings4ever · 21/04/2014 21:37

Fruitpastille - they are available on freeview

baldisbeautiful · 21/04/2014 21:37

Totally agree. Telly turned right up and still struggling. Luckily DH asleep as he would have turned over by now!!

thegreatestMadHairDayinhistory · 21/04/2014 21:37

Me too. I had my sound turned up to about 50 and couldnt hear a thing. It seemed desperately slow too. Given up and watching West wing :)

fruitpastille · 21/04/2014 21:38

I even tried subtitles but none available.

Bunbaker · 21/04/2014 21:39

"Is it just me or is anyone else struggling to hear what they are saying? I feel like I'm listening through cotton wool ear plugs."

I thought it was just my old age. The sound quality is terrible. I have moved to the upstairs TV, which is newer and it has helped a little. I'm not sure I am going to stick with it over the next two nights.

I am disappointed because I loved the book. I also wanted to see the locations because a lot of it was filmed not far from where I used to live, and where I live now - most of the locations, apart from the beach ones were filmed in Yorkshire.

Corygal · 21/04/2014 21:39

It's so awful I'm full of laffs. Oh, I am so fed up of these brutally ugly period dramas. So you don't have to put up with any more mangling of what is an excellent book that has been filmed many times, well, here is my guide to it:

Man, eyes close together, dirty = villain
Man, slightly less dirty, stubble = hero
Silent woman with greasy hair = heroine
Same woman, still greasy, Anchor Butter accent = feisty heroine
Same woman, greasy hair flapping, walking = heroine in emotional torment
Mud = sets tone of hopelessness and martyrdom of poor (smugglers weren't poor, it was the source of a lot of Cornwall's wealth)
Ragged, damp, beige strangers = supporting cast of adorable locals, pinched from Hovis ad and left out in the rain for 30 years.

Use this guide for any drama done by the BBC.
