Book and tv series spoilers allowed.

OP posts:

I saw Titus Andronicus at the Globe the other day and Kevan Lannister was in it.

AryaOfHouseSnark · 13/06/2014 22:02

Fantastic Grin did you feel the urge to yell "HEAR ME ROAR" ?

Trills · 14/06/2014 08:39

:o

I couldn't quite work out who he was actually, I just had that feeling of "I know him" and had to look him up later

anonacfr · 14/06/2014 17:09

Stannis has NO sense of humour whatsoever.

How can anyone like him???????

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 14/06/2014 18:38

No he has a very dry and sarcastic sense of humour. There's a thread on another site I need to find for you when I'm on the computer, all about Stannis' best lines.

My favourite is when he is surrounded by "yes" men and he's grumbling that he "could show them the contents of my chamber pot and they would find it admirable."

But maybe I just like that he moans quite a bit, I love Dolorous Edd for the same reason.

anonacfr · 14/06/2014 19:42

That's not funny though. He's so entitled I can't warm to him at all.
He might moan about sycophants but he can't handle anyone who doesn't kiss his arse. Why do think Davos had to intervene in Braavos? Stannis genuinely expected the bankers to roll over and give him millions.

He was an arsehole to Jon at the Wall in the books. That's reason enough for me to dislike him. I love Book!Jon

AryaOfHouseSnark · 14/06/2014 19:47

Dolorous Ed is brilliant, I think him and Bronn would be BFF, they would make a really good comedy act. The medieval Ant and Dec maybe.

AryaOfHouseSnark · 14/06/2014 19:49

That's what I like about allthe characters though, they're all flawed, sometime frustratingly so, and despite their flaws you kind of love them, just like you do with rl people.

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 14/06/2014 19:56

That scene in Braavos is not in the books, the equivalent scene in the books is in a preview chapter for the Winds of Winter and it plays out completely differently. Tbh they have ruined show Stannis a little a lot but I continue to love him out of loyalty to book Stannis.

Dolorous Edd and Bronn would make a great pair!

anonacfr · 14/06/2014 21:01

I clearly need to re-read the books. I hated Book!Stannis.

I have to re-read them anyway as things get rather more confusing from Book 4 onwards. I don't know how the series is going to progress- the whole Lannister dynamic ends, all the Dorne stuff, the annoying new Targaryen pretender who's all built up the be the real heir only to get barbecued by the dragon, Tyrion on his barge...

I could see a lot of TV viewers getting quite frustrated by it all. Not to mention the Night's Watch storyline has been really let behind in this series (apart from the last episode). Then when Stannis gets to the Wall things shift to that storyline a lot. It seems most TV viewers find the Wall quite dull- how are they going to handle the Wildlings/Jon/Stannis storyline?

AryaOfHouseSnark · 14/06/2014 21:25

I have nearly finished adwd for the second time, I picked up so much more. Lots more things clicked in to place, and it noticed loads of hints of things that would happen, that just confused me first time round.
I have got (somewhere) the wheel of time book 1 and might give that a go after. Any other recommendations ?

anonacfr · 14/06/2014 21:47

Not fantasy per se but have you read the Otherland series by Tad Williams? Set in the near future- the net has become a virtual reality experience.
Plot starts with children falling into a coma after going online.

It's incredibly vivid and epic. It also has a character based chapter situation- not directly from the characters' perspective but from their stories, so basically you go from cliffhanger to cliffhanger. The author has managed to create different worlds and an epic plot that links them together.
I've read it a few times and it is fantastic!

anonacfr · 14/06/2014 21:49

It's basically about random strangers going on a quest together- even though the setting is VR it has a good old-fashioned fantasy feel to it.

And there's evil and heroes and it's satisfyingly long.

Trills · 15/06/2014 10:41

Sounds good - I'll check it out.

Vivacia · 16/06/2014 08:41

I thought episode 10 had a bit too much in it. They could have put at least one of the revelations/plots in to an earlier episode (some of which were a bit low on action).

AryaOfHouseSnark · 16/06/2014 10:20

Thanks anon, will check that out.

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 16/06/2014 19:32

So much was right with that episode. I loved it.

BelleOfTheBorstal · 16/06/2014 22:45

But no Lady Stoneheart!

hildasmuriel · 16/06/2014 22:48

I loved it. Lady Stoneheart saved for next season.

AryaOfHouseSnark · 16/06/2014 22:54

I am sulking too, where is Stoneheart and wtf were the fireballs ?

AryaOfHouseSnark · 16/06/2014 22:55

I enjoyed the Brienne and Hound fight. Even though it didn't happen that way in the bloomin books

Whathaveiforgottentoday · 16/06/2014 22:56

I liked it including most of the changes. The fight between the Hound and Brienne was awesome as was Arya.

Shame we didn't get the line 'wherever whores go'. I can understand why they cut the Tysha part of the story but I do feel Tyrion was more hurt in the book. However, they did a great job with it.

Whathaveiforgottentoday · 16/06/2014 22:58

I can live without uncat being revealed as it leaves something for next series. I wondered if Jojen wouldn't survive as he's on his last legs in the book and hasn't done anything since he arrived at the wierwood.

Trills · 16/06/2014 22:59

D'you think that this means GRRM has told the writers that "wherever whores go" is not actually important?

AryaOfHouseSnark · 16/06/2014 23:00

I am a bit worried they will cut her out completely though, also getting worried about future book spoilers being aired in the show.
