Spoilers very easy to come by - just Google. But don't. I have done it twice and wish I had not both times.

TunipTheUnconquerable · 01/05/2014 09:24

I would love Sansa and Tyrion to end up together but she has a lot of character development to do first....
The moment for me that most pointed to it was where she's still doing her 'I love Joffrey with all my heart' shtick after Joff has had her beaten up or something, and Tyrion says in a half disbelieving, half admiring voice, something along the lines of, 'She may survive us yet.'

I am rubbish at second-guessing GRRM, though. I've always been wrong so far.

AnnaLegovah · 01/05/2014 15:09

I hate the way the fanboys sneer at Sansa for being a 'silly girl'. I think she's well written for a 14 year old girl stuck alone in a pit of snakes. I would love to see her take over but based on what usually happens to GOT characters I'm not holding my breath (havn't read the books beyond the 3rd one).

Seconding not reading spoilers online - it's difficult enough to find reviews of previous episodes that don't give away huge chunks of the story.

Igggi · 01/05/2014 17:27

Have just put on a film (Underdog) for the dcs about a super hero dog, and Tyrion is in it as a mad scientist type.

TheAbominableWoman · 01/05/2014 19:32

Yes, I never understand those who call Samsa pathetic and stupid. I think she shows real guts and a strsurvival instinct

TheAbominableWoman · 01/05/2014 19:33

Arse.

...and a strong survival instinct in a fucking tough situation for s

TheAbominableWoman · 01/05/2014 19:38

Fucking phone has a mind if its own tonight Hmm

...for someone her age. I hope we see in time that ages playing a long game (I haven't read far enough ahead to know).

Nunyabiz · 01/05/2014 19:57

Yes she was introduced as quite naive but has learnt very quickly how to survive which shows she's actually quite clever.

In another note- has anyone seen John Snow is in the new Pompeii movie?!?! Ooh yeaaah Wink

WhereTheWildlingsAre · 01/05/2014 20:33

I agree. Some of the things she has had to sit through and remain composed in order to survive.

I like the contrast between her and Arya. Both surviving in their own way and both doing it using their own strengths.

I don't know what happens but I would love to see them meet up again and see a scene showing how they have moved on from the childhood sisters they were.

TheAbominableWoman · 01/05/2014 21:25

Yes, she and Arya are playing to their individual strengths, surviving with the skills they've acquired. In Sansa's case, she was always destined to be a lady, a wife and a brood mare so that's all she has to work with. Arya was reared more like her brothers so has more physical skills to draw on.

QueenOfThorns · 02/05/2014 06:34

I agree with the above to a certain degree, but did find Sansa fairly exasperating in the books. Tyrion would have been a great ally for her, but she rejects him, just because he doesn't meet her romantic ideal. You'd have thought that her experiences with Joffrey would've cured the handsome prince thing, but no!

Chopsypie · 02/05/2014 07:21

Nunya - I didn't realise how attractive a man in a leather skirt could be. Will definitely be going to see that...

TitzMcGeee · 02/05/2014 07:29

I think it's slightly more than Tyrion not meeting her romantic ideal. To her, Tyrion is the lesser of the evils. He might show her genuine kindness but he's still a Lannister and they slaughtered her family.

TitzMcGeee · 02/05/2014 07:31

Sorry, under a namechange for a different thread...off to slip back into something's re comfortable....

TheAbominableWoman · 02/05/2014 07:37

That's better...feel more like myself again :)

Cooroo · 02/05/2014 07:41

studyfulltime I read all the books and loved them! A very absorbing read.

That Rape Scene: I think Jaime, overcome with grief (loss of utterly vile child and Cersei and hand) and lust, just forces her and doesn't care, there and then. We may not like him for it but it doesn't change his character (he was already a killer and a child killer). I was glad to see him behave so well this week and found his farewell scene with Brienne (and Pod) very touching.

Rather fun that Bran's storyline has veered way off the book opening up all sorts of interesting possibilities.

I agree with this, and also in the first book she is only 11 years old. So maybe 12-13 at the time of her marriage. Basically a traumatised and angry child. At this point she really isn't capable of thinking strategically, in terms of "allies", or rationally, in that Tyrion has only ever shown her kindness.

In the show of course she is that bit older and it changes the dynamic somewhat.

But as I said...I think that is what the thrust of her story arc will be: becoming a master strategist Grin

I'm also sure its more than Tyrion just not being a romantic ideal. He's a Lannister. The nicest of the Lannisters, but a Lannister nonetheless. Being married to him also ties her closely to Joffrey for the rest of her life - no escape to Highgarden for her. Until now that is - but could well be a case of out of the frying pan into the fire now she's with Littlefinger. Dying to know how this storyline is going to go.

I love the scene when Sansa and Tyrion get married - when she didn't crouch down so he could put his cloak over her shoulders my DH was saying 'stupid girl why is she making it difficult for him' but I was saying that this is an important moment - not only is Tyrion made painfully aware of his lack of stature (once again), this is Sansa quietly standing up for herself having been sold off by being stubborn. If only for a moment. That was my opinion anyway. Wink

But then I was also a fan of Catelyn Stark and she seems quite unpopular.

Did anyone else notice at Meereen that a new character among the slaves is adorable and doofy Leighton from Trollied? Grin

TunipTheUnconquerable · 02/05/2014 13:50

The cloak bit at the wedding is brilliant. I love the detail they added for the tv version, where instead of no-one thinking to bring a stool, Joffrey kicks it away.

TunipTheUnconquerable · 02/05/2014 14:01

The other thing that changes the dynamic from the books is that in the books Tyrion is meant to be really ugly, to the point of being difficult to look at, particularly after he loses his nose in the battle. Whereas Peter Dinklage is already fairly easy on the eye and merely gains a rather fetching scar.
Given that the characters in the book in general seem to share the typically medieval world view that ugly=bad, you can see how it would be very hard for Sansa to accept Tyrion as good, despite her acknowledging he's been kinder to her than the other Lannisters.

QueenOfThorns · 02/05/2014 15:29

OK, maybe I've been a bit unfair! After her trauma with Joffrey, she was too terrified to trust anyone else, let alone a Lannister. Maybe she would've come round, given time, especially if they had left King's Landing.

AnnaLegovah · 02/05/2014 16:06

I do think, in the right circumstances, Tyrion and Sansa could have been (could be?) happy together. After all, Catelyn and Ned weren't in love when they married. Wink

I've still never got over what happened to Ned... Sad

IdaBlankenship · 02/05/2014 16:42

I know Anna Sad. When I see Peter Dinklage's name come up first in the credits, I always worry for Tyrion's longevity in the show - that first credit used to be for Sean Bean.

TunipTheUnconquerable · 02/05/2014 16:54

Surely that's because he's the one that won the Emmy and the Golden Globe for it? Wouldn't any agent worth their salt negotiate top billing for the client after that?

IdaBlankenship · 02/05/2014 17:11

I was being a bit facetious. Ned Stark's death took me so by surprise, that I no longer have any belief that just because a character is popular/an actor is top billed that they cannot be despatched without a by-your-leave Grin
