I agree, and that was part of my Tumblr rant :) Not only is she a woman, she is motherly figure. She's not Maggie or Michonne, who are seen as warrior types. So people talk about her being "cold", etc, because she is supposed to be nurturing, warm, asexual. Not making calculated decisions and surely not banging the hot badass of the group.
For instance, Merle. He did horrible things, including doing his best to murder Glenn out of spite. He was allowed to stay at the prison, and wasn't even kept in a cell. I've even seen some people defend what SHANE did because "it's a different world, people are going to have to make hard decisions" but what they mean is MEN are going to have to make hard decisions.
In season 1, when Jim was bitten, Daryl immediately tried to sink a pickax in his skull, even though Jim was sitting there talking. Was Daryl told he was "cold" and banished from the group? No, because he was working off the information he had at the time, which was that Jim would die and become a danger to the group. The only information on the flu Carol had was that Karen and David would die horribly (remember the doctor saying Patrick had drowned in his own blood), reanimate, and kill. So she did what she did. I don't know if it was the right call or not, but I back her on it.
I don't necessarily disapprove of the Beth/Daryl pairing based on age alone. It's that there has been a lot of buildup around Daryl and Carol (if you watch the episodes in one long binge, as I have more than once it's even more obvious) and I feel it's kind of a natural progression. At the very least they are very very close friends, and for the writers to suddenly ignore this is worse than annoying, it's bad, out of character writing.
Also they have portrayed Beth consistently as one of the kids, or at least as quite young (again, Carol took Axel to task for flirting with her) and now suddenly she and Daryl are making eyes at each other? I don't buy it. I think the writers have done it for controversy and/or out of the cliched desire to pair the happy innocent blonde and the boy from the wrong side of the tracks together. Either way, it's obnoxious AF.
Furthermore people who approve of Daryl/Beth have been asked "well, what about Michonne and Carl in a few years" and have expressed disapproval or outright disgust. So either they have to admit that they have double standards or they have to admit that Daryl/Beth is a bit icky as well.
Sorry, I know this is a light hearted TV thread!
