Everyone is saying that tonights episode is the best yet, baby needs to sleep so I can watch it!

OP posts:

I like Bob cos he was in The Wire too. :) I do wonder whether that zombie bite he received which apparently only got his bandage will come back into it.

If the rumours Morgan (Lenny James) will turn up in the finale are true I think he'll have Beth.Going against trend here but I quite like her and hope she makes it. Carl will definitely be attacked (whether or not it is the attempted rape in the comics) and a main character has to die (Maggie, Glenn or Carol probably?).

I hope there will be no cannibalism. I don't think I could watch.

Hopefully amongst the carnage Darryl will have a shower or I may let you claim him Blondes and I will claim Rick. (I promise to take good care of Judith).

I know people love her but is anyone else beginning to find Michonne annoying? The interludes with Carl drive me batty.

MrsKermittSmith · 29/03/2014 09:41

Michonne being amusing with Corol is beginning to annoy me, I can see why, its so Rick can fully regain his humanity etc, but enough, she needs to behead more zombies/cannibals/bowmen etc.

I think we will end the series not knowing who will survive.

MrsKermittSmith · 29/03/2014 09:42

Morgan was going a little crazy when he mt up with Rick again wasnt he, I bet he has gone spiritual now!

moreyear · 29/03/2014 09:57

I still laugh every time someone writes Corol for Carl.

Yes Michonne like Darryl is better silent and deadly.

Driveway · 29/03/2014 10:33

I quite like Michonne being pals with Carl because when she gets it on with Rick they'll settle into a nice family vibe easily. I think they'd be really good together!

He deserves a kick ass other half after whiny Lori and I think Michonne would want someone solid, smart, thinking, like Rick. He's always the boss in the show and she'd be a great partner to have at the top.

MichonnesSamuraiSword · 29/03/2014 10:35

There is a brand of scrumpy called Cripplecock - Hah, this made me laugh out loud. Sounds fabulous.

I like the hint from the series writer that nothing is coincidence or accident, so there's got to be a significance to those paintings in the suicide house..

As for Glenn burning Maggie's photo and her saying "We'll never be apart again".. hmmm not a good sign. Maybe they'll both die.

I liked Bob more when we saw a bit of his back story, and now that he's fallen in love with Sasha, I think he's sweet. Maybe we'll lose Tyreese, he's kind of run his course now really.

As for people planning what they'd do in a zombie apocalypse... I live in a rural area, and have already identified the isolated house that I am going to aim for. It's on the top of a big hill on a remote moor, I'll see them coming from all sides...

DP is incredibly practical, can make or fix anything, is fit and knows how to shoot. So I'm sticking with him.

Slightly worryingly, I found myself in a workshop the other day and saw a long broom handle in the corner and thought to myself "Hmm that would be good for fending off Zombies, although I'm not sure it's sharp enough to bash in a head"... I think I'm getting obsessed!

Monroe · 29/03/2014 11:05

I would love morgan to show up again. I have always thought he would appear again at some point.

I also quite like bob and would like to know a bit more about him. He's mentioned a few times now that he has been the sole survivor of 2 previous groups. There's definitely a story there!

And I also like the richonne / coral group. It seems like a nice "fit" even if there is nothing romantic going on.

I had a thought, what if Daryl claims coral? In an effort to protect him. Then kicks some serious butt. That's what's happening in my completely made up version

Monroe · 29/03/2014 11:17

michonne I'd want to stick with my dh too. He's very strong and fit and also practical. He's also an all round nice guy and gets on with everyone so he'd be a bit of a peacekeeper. Plus he's a butcher so when we start eating the wild animals he can take care of all that business Grin

although I am now starting to worry he might ditch me and trade me in for a more practical ass kicking michonne type Hmm

MichonnesSamuraiSword · 29/03/2014 12:06

Monroe my DP is a Butcher's son!!!! We should definitely team up and rule the world! i'm useless, have no practical skills and am vegetarian.. so we'd better hope no ass kicking GI jane types come and take our place!

I like the Richonne thing, BUT I'm hoping Michonne brings out her badass self again soon. Prefer her when she's being tough.

I wondered whether Darryl might 'claim' Beth or Carol or someone to protect them... I'd rather that than any other nasty scenario.

FatherLarryDuff · 29/03/2014 13:33

I'm going to have to wait till the end of next week to watch it as DH away till then and he wants us to watch it together.

I think Terminus are going to be cannibals. There was just something about that BBQ.

I think Glenn isn't going to make it for some reason. If Michonne dies I think I will cry.

Wickedgirl · 29/03/2014 17:20

I really hope that none of the original cast die. Sasha, Tyreese, Bob and Beth can meet their end without too much upset.

you can watch WWZ here

CheerfulYank · 29/03/2014 17:25

I actually like Beth too and feel bad that her last living family member hasn't even MENTIONED her BUT like I said, I won't watch anymore if she hooks up with Daryl so...I won't be upset it she dies. Blush Plus all the Beth/Daryl fangirls (usually teenagers) are vile to and about Carol/Melissa McBride and it makes me want her character to go.

Which is probably not good. I feel...misogynistic now.

Monroe · 29/03/2014 17:48

It's funny, I was thinking how it might be carol because after she was banished by rick the group proved they could carry on fine without her and then I realised that was because she had only been gone for about a day in TWD land and most of them hadn't even known she was missing Confused it obviously felt like she'd been gone
Longer because the episodes were shown over a couple of weeks.

I still think she is in danger and that is part of the reason
they have built up a relationship between daryl and beth with beth as a sort of "replacement" as someone significant that daryl cares about. Also I think it was the last episode when someone in joes gang asked daryl about his situation and said something about a woman being responsible or something along those lines sorry, rubbish memory and it felt like they were trying to make out like beth had had a huge impact on him. Sorry, not explaining it well! But that was the vibe I got and I was thinking hang on a minute, it should be carol

BlueFrenchHorn · 29/03/2014 18:43

cheerful I wouldn't mind beth getting killed off as well. I can't see what else she couk bring to the show. She's served her purpose - getting daryl to open up etc, but she's no Maggie, I just don't see her as lead character material.

I really don't want Beth / Daryl to happen either.

I really want Carol to reunite with Richonne's group!

BlueFrenchHorn · 29/03/2014 18:47

monroe I got that impression as well. The writers using Beth as a carol substitute for a significant female for Daryl to care about.

FatherLarryDuff · 29/03/2014 18:47

I like Carol so I really hope she doesn't die. I like what they have done with her character opposed to the Carol in the comics (I haven't read them but did read a brief description of the characters in it).

Cheerful, why are certain fans being vile about the character or Melissa McBride? Confused Is it because they don't like the idea of her with Daryl? Or because she isn't young and pretty? Daryl is easily in his late 30s/early 40s so Carol is a more natural fit than teenage Beth (as been mentioned before). I think Melissa McBride has been awesome in it.

BlueFrenchHorn · 29/03/2014 18:48

father I agree think Carol's pretty.

Driveway · 29/03/2014 18:59

You know, I have a feeling you are right Michonne.i think Maggie and Glen could go.

FatherLarryDuff · 29/03/2014 19:00

Blue I do too, she rocks that crop fantastically but I meant that teens might not think so in comparison to Beth.

I wouldn't be too sad if Beth dies, she doesn't really add much to the plot. She was Judith's main carer so was always in the periphery of the action iyswim. Even her relationship with the guy (can't remember his name) at the beginning of this season was glossed over.

Of them all, I'd rather Beth goes!

CheerfulYank · 29/03/2014 19:26

Well.

The ones I have seen being vile about it are mostly quite young women to whom appearance is obviously extremely important. They've really bought into the whole youth=beauty thing hook, line, and sinker. So when they see Carol/Melissa, someone who's not "playing by the rules" so to speak (as in daring to look like a woman in her 40's) but still "winning", i.e. having a relationship with the "hot guy" of the show, it threatens what they know and believe.

I wrote a very long angry Tumblr post about it. :o

Also the supporters of Beth/Daryl continually try to down age Daryl, saying that "well the actor is 45 but the character is probably only thirties or even 20's." Which is ludicrous because a)Norman Reedus looks late 30's at best b) Merle said Daryl was 40 and c) there is at most a 7-8 year age difference between Merle and Daryl.

And I'd like to know why it was played as "gross" when Axel flirted with Beth but it's fine if she and Daryl hook up? Hmm

I agree that Melissa is pretty. Whenever you see her as herself and not Carol she's adorable...got a really cool boho style.

I'll, uh, step off my soap box now. Blush

FatherLarryDuff · 29/03/2014 19:46

Yay Cheerful!

I completely agree Grin

CheerfulYank · 29/03/2014 20:19

An 18 year old said very seriously on twitter the other day that "even if Daryl and Axel are the same age Daryl LOOKS younger so..."

Uh, round these parts how old someone LOOKS is the justification men use to perv on 14 year old girls wearing a lot of make up, so excuse me if that argument doesn't hold any water with me. Angry

moreyear · 29/03/2014 21:03

I agree with you Cheerful Yank - I think there is also an element that Carol, has to an extent shrugged of the strictures of what it means to be a ' woman' (as defined by society). She has adopted what is a stereotypically male role - making tough decisions to protect her tribe/for the greater good. Ie killing the two at the prison. She has even committed the ultimate betrayal of womanhood - killed a child.

If Carol were a man her actions would be seen as righteous (not sure that is the right word but hopefully you know what I mean) but because she is a woman - and a mother they are harder to reconcile. As it's a zombie apocalypse most people can understand, even condone what she has done but I think only if she is rendered asexual. If she is a loving, desirable, warm loving woman in a sexual relationship her actions are so at odds with what women are perceived and expected to be (even in a ZA) they become much harder to accept. So she is in the eyes of some viewers written off as 'not a real woman' and incapable of being in a relationship with a man. In a way they have done this with Michonne too.

If there is to be a relationship I would prefer it to be Carol and Darryl (except for their names rhyming ;) ) rather than Darryl and Beth because I think they are good for each other and have real chemistry.

But I don't object to to Beth and Darryl getting together on the grounds of an age difference. To me that objection is a conceit (used in a non pejorative sense) of modern society. In a ZA they are both adults just with a 20 year age gap and I think no one would even question the difference.

Anyway it's Sunday here so only a day to go :)

Monroe · 29/03/2014 21:19

I came on to post a flippant remark about wearing my big girl pants and watching wwz on my own in the dark and kinda got stopped in my tracks after reading cheerful and mores comments.

Really interesting. I wonder if the writers think even half as deeply about the characters when writing the scripts.

I think carol has become the sin eater of the group. The one that makes and carries out the morally reprehensible decisions so no one else has to. And each time she does a little piece of her dies. I think this is what she was talking about when she talked about a person changing. She can never be the same again Sad

On a lighter note, I have Wine and brad pitt even though he's no rick

CheerfulYank · 29/03/2014 21:31

I agree, and that was part of my Tumblr rant :) Not only is she a woman, she is motherly figure. She's not Maggie or Michonne, who are seen as warrior types. So people talk about her being "cold", etc, because she is supposed to be nurturing, warm, asexual. Not making calculated decisions and surely not banging the hot badass of the group.

For instance, Merle. He did horrible things, including doing his best to murder Glenn out of spite. He was allowed to stay at the prison, and wasn't even kept in a cell. I've even seen some people defend what SHANE did because "it's a different world, people are going to have to make hard decisions" but what they mean is MEN are going to have to make hard decisions.

In season 1, when Jim was bitten, Daryl immediately tried to sink a pickax in his skull, even though Jim was sitting there talking. Was Daryl told he was "cold" and banished from the group? No, because he was working off the information he had at the time, which was that Jim would die and become a danger to the group. The only information on the flu Carol had was that Karen and David would die horribly (remember the doctor saying Patrick had drowned in his own blood), reanimate, and kill. So she did what she did. I don't know if it was the right call or not, but I back her on it.

I don't necessarily disapprove of the Beth/Daryl pairing based on age alone. It's that there has been a lot of buildup around Daryl and Carol (if you watch the episodes in one long binge, as I have more than once it's even more obvious) and I feel it's kind of a natural progression. At the very least they are very very close friends, and for the writers to suddenly ignore this is worse than annoying, it's bad, out of character writing.

Also they have portrayed Beth consistently as one of the kids, or at least as quite young (again, Carol took Axel to task for flirting with her) and now suddenly she and Daryl are making eyes at each other? I don't buy it. I think the writers have done it for controversy and/or out of the cliched desire to pair the happy innocent blonde and the boy from the wrong side of the tracks together. Either way, it's obnoxious AF.

Furthermore people who approve of Daryl/Beth have been asked "well, what about Michonne and Carl in a few years" and have expressed disapproval or outright disgust. So either they have to admit that they have double standards or they have to admit that Daryl/Beth is a bit icky as well.

Sorry, I know this is a light hearted TV thread! Blush
