Fab or what!

OP posts:

I see the one who did the poo in Arnott's car in series one has made a reappearance briefly with Dot. That scene was the most disgusting thing.

limitedperiodonly · 14/03/2014 09:29

Also, it was clear that Dot was always going to be one of those journeymen officers who never rise because they're lazy and thick.

It's one of the reasons he's not suspected of complicity in the murders of the drug dealers. He's assigned to watch their flat but skived off. It's the kind of thing he would do. Except you find out that he did it deliberately.

I can't remember his rank - not above DS.

Gates was very ambitious and gifted and the Morrissey character was a good policeman but with no drive.

Dot lucks in on his promotion at the end. It's interesting because that happens quite a lot, as another poster has said. Inept people do get lucky. It's quite depressing.

limitedperiodonly · 14/03/2014 09:33

That scene was the most disgusting thing.

I found quite a lot of other things a bit more disturbing.

You really thought they'd lopped off Arnott's fingers with bolt croppers at one point. He'd have had a bit of difficulty picking up the shit in his car if that had happened.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 14/03/2014 09:41

Like rewarding incompetence isn't it. Sideways moves and shuffling just to get rid.

Abra1d · 14/03/2014 09:45

I don't think it's just luck that has brought Dot into that position. I think he is there to keep an eye on things. May be wrong.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 14/03/2014 09:45

Thanks for explaining about the Caddy btw limitedperiodonly. Wish I'd seen Series 1.

I take it that Hargreaves' colleague, sorry I don't know her name but the brunette who visits Steve and apologises for not telling him about the tracking device they'd found in the burned out car, was involved with Steve in Series 1?

Abra1d · 14/03/2014 09:47

I was talking sensory disgust, limited not comparative thematic disgust. I had the same response to the poo-in-porridge this seres.

limitedperiodonly · 14/03/2014 10:05

I think it's clever that Arnott and Kate don't suspect Dot because they look down on him.

Dot resented them in the first series because he felt inferior. Now he's probably laughing at them.

The Morrissey character is bitter at Dot's undeserved rise which you could see from him sarcastically insisting on calling him Sir. Perhaps he'd be closest to suspecting Dot but he can't be bothered any more.

limitedperiodonly · 14/03/2014 10:11

I can't remember her being in it donkeys.

Oh yeah abraid ISWYIM. I wasn't bothered by the shit in the car - wouldn't like it to happen to me though Grin.

The porridge though. Yes. I didn't like to dwell on it though. I probably wouldn't eat. Don't know long I'd hold out.

Abra1d · 14/03/2014 10:19

If Denton really did set the whole thing up, could she have known she would be facing experiences like that? I don't know. I know she's tough, but. . .

Though I thought it was interesting that when they let her visit her mother, there was a moment when a door or window was left open and the guards seemed to be dozing and she could have escaped, but didn't. At the time knew that the two cops were going to 'free' her? And she somehow timed her emotional outburst in the van with that in mind? I know this was mentioned above, sorry for returning to it.

I don't know, either, how I am expected to last the next five days before the last episode.

Abra1d · 14/03/2014 10:20

Sorry, words missing,'At the time knew that the two cops were going to 'free' her?' should read 'Was it because she knew that the two cops were going to free her?'

limitedperiodonly · 14/03/2014 10:30

I hope they don't make Denton's investigation into Carly's disappearance a co-incidence. Surely not, though I can't work out where it's going.

I still can't see how the prison van overturned. I did find it believable that she escaped though, after all the blunders by G4S and the rest. And the bit with the prison officers dozing off.

I'd have also thought that someone as smart as her would have realised Manish and Jez were dodgy because they were on the scene so quickly. She figured Kate out straight away.

Abra1d · 14/03/2014 10:33

Yes, I was surprised by that, too.

limitedperiodonly · 14/03/2014 10:40

I don't suppose she knew the police were going to free her because she hid from them at first and they didn't say anything like: 'It's all right, we've come to get you.'

She also thanked them for not putting her in handcuffs and Manish said it was courtesy but he was still treating her as a prisoner. I don't know why they didn't handcuff her. I know they overpowered her in the end but it just would have made it easier and wouldn't have looked suspicious.

I still like it despite looking like I'm picking.

Abra1d · 14/03/2014 11:06

I think it's a mark of how good it is that it keeps throwing up these questions.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 14/03/2014 11:46

Denton was told by Mallick post-ambush she'd be sidelined into handling Missing Persons so if she decided to use Dryden as a scapegoat for Carly's disappearance and murder she must have thought things out jolly fast.

So who was paying Akers?

susiedaisy · 14/03/2014 14:24

Arrrgh just finished watching this weeks episode. Now I dont know, maybe Lindsay Denton did set up Dryden ???Shock

diddl · 14/03/2014 19:49

How about Tommy set up the ambush to get out of witness protection?

And it just happened to leave Denton and Dryden able to try to set each other up?

MikeLitoris · 14/03/2014 20:04

Didn't Dryden specifically ask for Dot to work on the investigation with ac12 ?

diddl · 14/03/2014 20:44

Yes he did.

Willemdefoeismine · 15/03/2014 08:32

It could be a set-up within a set-up within a set-up......

Maybe Dryden is on to 'Dot' who is being monitored.....

Expecting a BIG REVEAL on Wednesday - nothing less will do...

truelymadlysleepy · 15/03/2014 11:13

I watched the last episode again last night.
How did Denton get from being locked in the boot whilst the non dead dodgy copper do his running about routine to the driver's seat?
Also, Kate seems convinced Denton is guilty, still.

susiedaisy · 15/03/2014 11:56

I'm wondering about Kate as well. Not sure if she's up to her neck in it. But she has beautiful big eyes.
