OP posts:

Dryden didn't feature in series one. Who was behind the hit on tommy is yet to be fully revealed, but obviously it included Jane Akers and dot. Jane for the money, dot because he didn't want it to come out he was the caddy. But the mastermind behind the operation is not yet known.

susiedaisy · 21/03/2014 08:51

I loved it, but found I couldn't keep up in this last episode so feel bit confused but it was fabGrin

Cocolepew · 21/03/2014 09:56

I think the fact that there were unknown (unmentioned? ) criminals , behind it all is confusing. Because Dot was the caddy and did tommy's dirty work usually, it wasnt apparent that there was somebody else acting as top dog. Or is that just me not following?

I had presumed that Dot had taken charge except the writer saying there were others behind

It was confusing and muddled at the end.

guineapiglet · 21/03/2014 10:08

I think the consensus seems to be that they should have repeated series 1 or run this one as a stand alone series, there were too many links back to make it straightforward, the beeb really missed a trick there. I seem to remember more shadowy background figures in series 1 - and I do remember Steve being horribly tortured ( couldn't watch) and some obnoxious kid on a bike running errands ( for Tommy?)- I really enjoyed this series, the combination of Keeley Hawes, ( not killed off but may be useful in series 3?), Vicky Mc Clure and Martin Compston was brilliant, they are all really good actors.

The ending was, as others have said, very rushed really, like so many of these series they 'draw out' - Salamander, Homeland were such examples, I guess we are expecting a killer ending so that whatever happens is a bit of an anticlimax, with the writers and production teams keeping their eye out for another series to follow on, so a more dramatic, final ending will never happen as they need to keep all the protagonists live and kicking for the next series!

Still, Dot gets promoted and made a permanent member of the team, so the corruption will perpetuate, and we may find out who is behind everything in the next series........................Wink

Disappointed in the final episode after enjoying the others so much, as may holes in the thing as Rac C Nesbit's vest!

maras2 · 21/03/2014 12:56

I missed the entire series 2 due to ' stuff ' Now ' stuff ' has gone away , I started watching it on IPlayer yesterday .I fully intended to pace myself over a couple of days . Well did I bollocks . As I had the house to myself I gorged the whole 6 episodes ; back to back . What a fantastic , self indulgence it turned out to be .

diddl · 21/03/2014 13:01

Yes I guess that other criminals would have wanted Tommy gone & Dot was an intermediary between them & other corrupt cops.

That makes more sense that Dot organising it all.

But then if there were other criminals involved, why would they get the police (Prasad & Cole) to do the killing??

Also with Denton & the tracker, why didn't she leave it?

Could it not have been feasible for her to have just happened to be on call & caught up in it all so that's why her vehicle was tracked-because she wasn't involved iyswim.

Clayhead · 21/03/2014 13:04

I loved it.

Very much looking forward to series three, I think the actor who plays Dot is fantastic and I hope there's plenty of him in the third series!

Listmaker · 21/03/2014 13:07

limitedperiodonly thanks for clarifying all my questions. I did watch back and when they were interviewing Prasad in the hospital Dot (I think) specifically asked him if he knew who the man organising it all was and he said no he only had contact by phone with him. So think that means Prasad was allowed to live.

And yes forgot about the witness protection thing and why Tommy was mad at Dryden in the first place so thanks for reminding me.

maras2 watching them back to back was probably the way to go so you can remember everything!

But as you all say despite a somewhat rushed ending and the reliance on the flashback revelations being slightly annoying (although not sure how else they could have shown it all other than Denton making a full confession which have been even more annoying) it was one of the best UK dramas on TV recently.

Roll on series 3...

diddl · 21/03/2014 13:22

Wonder if the body that wasn't Carly was Jackie Laverty?

susiedaisy · 21/03/2014 13:49

Maras2. That's excellent Grin

WaitMonkey · 22/03/2014 07:46

Just bumping for sleep. Smile

ImAThrillseekerHoney · 22/03/2014 07:56

Jackie Laverty was twice Carly's age and I think she had dark hair, so I don't think it can have been her.

diddl · 22/03/2014 08:49

Yes I thought about that after.

Wasn't sure how badly damaged the body was & thought it might come out in the next series after time.

Was hoping that a young girl hadn't been killed just for the sake of providing a body.

Yes, I know it's not real!

limitedperiodonly · 22/03/2014 09:07

They removed the body's face, fingertips and teeth. And Prasad collected all the DNA he could from her house. So they couldn't ID the body.

But I'm guessing that a pathologist would be able to tell the body's approximate age. They didn't say. It could be a plot hole or it could be another teenage girl.

Loved the series but didn't follow the final episode at all (even after watching it 3 times Blush)

I didn't see series 1 so I suppose that explains part of it! Deliberately came on here to try to understand it all, so thanks for that!

Who's Dot & how did Neil Morrisey fit into it all, other than just being dodgy?

GypsyFloss · 29/03/2014 16:14

I've just binged on this series and loved it so much I then had to watch series one in one sitting too.

Dot is very sly. I completely believed him in the second series until the end and now to discover that he is actually the caddy after all...

onedev · 29/03/2014 16:28

Who is he though? Is he the one who the was fighting with Neil Morrissey?

whatevermaycome · 29/03/2014 17:16

Yes he's the one who chased Neil morrisey round the golf course

GypsyFloss · 29/03/2014 17:49

So Nige doesn't really have any injury does he? Since he managed to leg it into the woods with Dot running after him with his stick?

And...why was Dot asking Nige who the caddy was? Was he just making sure that he was safe and secure with his secret before he accepted the top brass' offer of promotion?

Having watched both series in 2 days I think the second one was more twisty and a bit confusing.

diddl · 29/03/2014 17:59

"why was Dot asking Nige who the caddy was?"

To deflect from himself & to get Nige to hint that Cole(?) was the caddy so that there would be a basis for it when it went in his report.

I much preferred the second series.

Loathed the Tony Gates character in series1.

GypsyFloss · 29/03/2014 18:15

Ah yes that's kinda what I guessed, after watching series one.

I thought series one was a bit black and white in its bent coppers vs straight coppers thing. The second one definitely had them all on the same plane, just in different stages of it according to what they needed/wanted at the time.
