Am i delusional?

Probably :-)

Danish is difficult to learn, I'm pretty good at understanding but the pronunciation is fairly difficult so my speaking is pretty much limited to tak for mad.

This gives you an idea on the difficulty of pronunciation.

So many words are the same as ours (well... vice versa really!)- "Come over" can't remember others at present.

I could tell whether one was in Copenhagen or Malmo, by recognising lots of street scenes from Killing, Borgen and Wallander, helped a bit in the earlier episodes, but I couldn't tell which ones were Swedish/Danish (e.g. Pernille, working for Swedish police, so I assumed Swedish) though I can hear some difference in the 'sound' if I listen... but it's not really possible when one is reading the sub-titles at the same time!

I thought the shadowy shooter at the end was Stenberg- they seemed right height/build, and seemed to have that little curl to their hair that he has, but HRH has blown that theory if he spoke with Danish accent.

I knew Pernille was Danish because she said she was from Copenhagen police initially. Rasmus didn't say so I actually thought he was her colleague in Copenhagen until the above post saying he was Swedish. Though I should have guessed when Hans lamped him.

I thought I heard "Come in da house" at one point. Then I saw Kim the Danish actor saying the Danish for cuppa tea is said "cuppa tea" and I thought learning Danish could be my new (easy) hobby. Looks as if I was mistaken!

Will I like Borgen?I have been lent the 1st series but I hear that it's all politics and no murders?

I still would like to object in the strongest possible terms against this elevation of Rasmus to Saving The Day or being the Mastermind.
He is an eejit and I will have to eat my hair if proved wrong.
He deserves no attention from any of us, he disrespected Saga! He may not even be in series 3!

Oh thread still going? Grin

BBC4's Saturday night foreign language thrillers have been great. I enjoyed "Spiral" and "Inspector Montalbano" (very different from each other!) but there's something about the various Scandi detective series.

I love the whole idea of "hygge", which I think means is a cosy, relaxed, informal atmosphere.

Not only is the thread sstill going but my boss would be delighted to know that I spent half the day researching a trip to copehhagen (with a day trip to malmo). Hotel & flights (from dublin) about 830 for a week in late september. I'll need to learn a bit of Danish before I go. Just a bit. I'm not crazy. Where is mrsFlorrick? Any tips? I bought a book about copenhagen in my lunch hour! HAVE I GONE MAD ??

MrsJavier - I agree, I cannot believe that Rasmus will amount to anything. In fact, he has ruined the name for me.

I'd say the writers have Rasmus tucked up their sleeve so to speak. They could turn him in to a double-crossing lynch pin of a terrorist eco cell, or he could be the hapless but lovable collateral damage at the end of series 3.

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 06/02/2014 21:32

But he's not lovable. He's snarky and unprofessional.

Internal enquiries will find that if he'd taken a team to confront Female Ecoterrorists, they would have been arrested and not killed off.

He's so busted down to Traffic.

Maybe Rasmus will get a surprise promotion by series 3 and take over the dept (and the grandad cardigans).

Urgh I really did not like Rasmus!

shippenhaguen- v envious! would love to do same trip...

mrsHoolie re Borgen- I actually like Borgen the best of all the scandi dramas... because there's no murdering in it! It is fantastic! Smile Such excellent acting (well- I have been impressed y Borgen, Forbrydelsen, Bridge- all acting has been superb tbh)

I haven't booked it yet! There is a really good site, www.speakdanish.dk and it has 20 lessons with vocab, grammar, phrases, conversation and then three tests at the end. You have to press play to hear it, then you repeat it. it's like drugs though the first two lessons are free, the next 18 are about 300 euro.

I love Borgen too. I have just read that Pilou Asbæk who plays Kasper is going to co-host Eurovision this year...!

I've been looking at flights to Copenhagen too (not for Eurovision!)... Only problem is we are all veggie and I'm not sure we'd find much to eat there? Would love to visit though.

Official tour of copenhagen in the footsteps of The killing Borgen and the bridge

You know you want to go! Copenhagen is lovely bustling beautiful and busy, food is amazing, lots of fish for the half veggies but not at all hard to eat fully vegetarian, lots of scandinavians are vegetarian and its not frowned upon.

You must visit Lagekagehuset for your fix of danish pastries....

Would love to go too, last Saturday's Guardian had an article about Copenhagen and how it regularly gets chosen as the happiest capital to live in.

Also did anyone else find it weird watching Saga on that BBC interview as she looked so different, all smiley and happy. Don't think she smiled once on The Bridge Grin
