Only for a double bill thoughSad but better than nothing.

I was quite surprised by some of the hairstyles.

Gertrude having a long plait for instance.

That would be quite unusual for a mature woman in the UK.

Is it normal in Sweden/ Denmark.

Also, the very casual clothes - are they very less formal than us?

lemongrassandginger · 02/02/2014 21:53

It wasn't scraped back off her face though, it was really loose. I don't know what you're talking about re clothes! Pernille looked well turned out, and Lilian. Mette was at home with kids but wore dresses. Bodil and Caroline and viktoria looked lovely. Laura was a student. Have seen scruffier students! The teacher, can't really remember. Only Saga and Martin could have had better fitting coats.

SoulJacker · 02/02/2014 22:02

Denmark doesn't really do formal business wear, shirt and tie would be unusual in most situations.

I'd agree that Swedish is more sing songy, Lemongrass

ImperialBlether · 02/02/2014 22:18

Did you notice the bad women were dark haired? I thought I was watching a fairy tale at one point.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 02/02/2014 23:16

I loved Viktoria's soft blue coat .

CurrerBell · 03/02/2014 09:15

I loved Viktoria's coat too... I thought when she dressed for the EU summit she looked rather like a Hitchcock heroine/victim - very different to her normal look.

tobiasfunke · 03/02/2014 09:37

I think Martin went to poison Jens but didn't for some reason. Jens killed himself. It wouldn't have mattered if Saga turned Martin in as it wouldn't take the police long to work out Jens had been poisoned by the same stuff his only visitor had been investigating.
I don' think the mastermind is Rasmus as he told them where Gertrud was. However we still don't know how come Viktor knew every time Laura woke up. My Pernille theory has been blown out of the water.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 03/02/2014 09:49

Oh that's clever tobias the pathologist would find out wouldn't he?

CurrerBell · 03/02/2014 12:27

Yes - I don't think Martin killed Jens either. He made almost no attempt to hide his tracks. Perhaps he just didn't care any more and was on some kind of suicide mission - but I find it hard to believe he would have put Saga in that position - he would have known she'd have to turn him in.

If someone on the police force is corrupt, perhaps Martin was framed? Jens was already ill with a stomach complaint towards the end of Martin's visits... Or perhaps Jens somehow managed to kill himself...

I thought the pathologist guy was an interesting character - I'm guessing we'll see a lot more of him in the next series.

MrsFlorrick · 03/02/2014 13:09

HRH. Re language.
Martin speaks with a Copenhagen accent. Much more flat and swallows more of the words.

Pernille and karoline are posh. Bit like the queen (Danish one obv).

Not all consonants are swallowed in Danish.

Martin is pronounced: maar tin. And there is in fact an emphasis on the "t".

The soft "d" and "t" are unique and hard to replicate. As you saw even the Swedes struggle with it.

"T" are often soft if its a double t spelling ditto for d. Not a hard and fast rule. It's one of the things that makes Danish hard to learn.

I didn't count on Gertrude being so ultra cold. I did think she would kill the creepy oliver because of his love for the sister. But not the virus thing.

Not sure whether Martin killed Jens. Can't decided. It seems to obvious and he would have confessed when Saga confronted him.

I was right about creepy oliver though. Grin Yuk. Scary on so many levels.

Strawdolly · 03/02/2014 13:15

Does anyone know what it was that Saga kept putting at the side of her mouth?

LizLemongrass · 03/02/2014 13:19

maybe when martin asked saga 'do you know that for sure?' it was like 'so you are going to think the worst of me are you?'. the question was in that way.

bit like in dirty dancing when johnnie says to baby's dad 'i guess that's what you would think" Grin

Ubik1 · 03/02/2014 13:23

Saga uses chewing tobacco.

My theory is that it's that rubbish policeman who shot Gertrude and he has framed Martin for death of Jens
Saga will exonerate him. Poor Martin.

Ubik1 · 03/02/2014 13:25

Rasmus..I think it's Rasmus

MsFanackerPants · 03/02/2014 13:25

What I keep coming back to is that if Martin did kill Jens, it's with the Gertrud's virus yes? Not the plague that Oliver used.

Surely Martin wouldn't endanger prison staff etc by using it. Once Jens started spluttering blood, the virus would be in the air and anybody walking into his cell would be infected and then able to pass it on to others. I don't think Martin, no matter how destroyed by grief, would do that. He's too emotional and caring to kill other people.

BrandNewIggi · 03/02/2014 13:27

I think Jens would hav been killed with the original poison that was in the apples etc. wouldn't hurt anyone else.

Ubik1 · 03/02/2014 13:29

But I thought it was the plague that killed Jens - the vials seized from Oliver's house

LizLemongrass · 03/02/2014 13:35

but why would rasmus have gone to the apartment of those women in the same cell as Niklas. I think he was trying to storm in as the big guy with a suspect and look like the great cop!

It could be rasmus I guess but they're going to have to explain a lot of stuff if it is. Also, as somebody says, he told them where gertrude was, and, he told them that viktoria knew marcus.

HRHQueenMe · 03/02/2014 13:36

MrsFlorrick that explains the accents, although I am Swedish I cant tell the Danish accents apart. :) thanks for clarifying!

WetAugust, Sweden like Denmark dont do Office wear like the UK (NEXT would go bust with their range of clothes) Work wear is very laid back, and comfort is key. Suits and ties are reserved for conferences and boardmeetings.

I have long blonde hair and sometimes wear it in a plait like Gertrude, not quite as well done though! I live in the UK and if people dont like it well tough! ;)

guineapiglet · 03/02/2014 13:37

But didn't it say Jens had died.... it didn't actually say he was poisoned? I was wondering if the kind of 'premonitions' Martin had in his hotel room were kind of warnings, and that Jens was actually, already dead at that point??

I wonder whether the real mastermind is Martin's lovely female boss in heels......... she was one of the only ones who knew he saw Jens on a regular basis and had access to the poison..still cannot believe they would file toxic vials in an easily accessible shelving unit. Shock

Ubik1 · 03/02/2014 13:38

Maybe he was going to threaten/kill them..?

BrandNewIggi · 03/02/2014 13:40

What did. Lillian call Martin back to talk about just before he went to Sweden near the end? She said it would only take two minutes.

MrsFlorrick · 03/02/2014 14:19

HRH. GrinGrin

Funny isn't it. I have Swedish friends in RL and they are always shaking their heads over it.

Loving your plait btw. My hair sadly isn't up to that sort of things. If it was, I would.

I wonder if Lillian called Martin in to tell him that Jens was dying? Hmmm.

Wish it was back on soon.

And that they'd make another series of The Killing!!

I will console myself with the new series of The Good Wife in the meantime.

MrsFlorrick · 03/02/2014 14:27

Oh and who shot Gertrude??

It outline looked a bit Jens like but he was dead/in prison. Does he have a twin??

It was a man, a Danish man speaking to Gertrude to tell her she had failed so it can't be Lillian, it can't be Rasmus Viktor or any of those.

Hmmm. Sorry slow on uptake. I have flu and only watched the episodes last night on iplayer.

Ubik1 · 03/02/2014 14:39

OOH the Danish thing...so it can't be Rasmus..

Damn
