The third Doctor was exiled by the TimeLords to Earth after the events of the War Games - they chose Earth because they recognized he had a 'special interest' in Earth. They altered his memory so he couldn't remember how to fly the TARDIS, and for the first series he was confined to earth (though in one story he ended up in a parallel version of Earth)

The Doctor was always trying to make the TARDIS work again and during the 3rd doctor's second season he sometimes thought he'd succeeded, but it always turned out to be the Time Lords controlling it, to send the doctor on 'missions' - the first was Colony In Space, when the Master stole the Doomsday Machine file and the doctor was sent to stop him getting hold of the Machine.

The Curse of Peladon was the second of these missions, and the Mutants the third. Then, in the 10th anniversary special, the first three doctors are allowed to work together by the Time Lords to save them from whatever is draining their energy through a black hole. As a reward for saving them, they then lift the sentence of exile and the Doctor is then free to go where ever and whenever he (or rather the TARDIS) wants.

i don't like it.

i'm a huge costume geek and this is just a bit too fancy dress for me. I liked how Matt Smith had an amazing first costume, which looked like it had been assembled from stuff he could find, but it evolved into something a bit too bbc costume department…and this does the same thing. nope. try again.

Oh yes, I like
Smart, clean lines, no silly bits and pieces, suits him and am always partial to a man in dr Martens!

It's growing on me. Didn't quite know what to make of it at first, but I shall reserve final judgement until I've seen it actually moving. I do like the way these shots are being done, though, the single figure on the white background. I still have Paul McGann as my wallpaper

The shoes are very important to the new Who costumes aren't they?

Are Doc Martins easy to run in?

When they're worn in they're fine to do anything in iirc, mine bust years ago but I wore them until they fell apart and did a fair amount of running for buses in them!

Once they're broken in they're beautiful. I have my eye on a pair with heels...

been watching old ones trhat weve never seen before, Jon Pertwees fab fab fab and we watched TB today in The sun makers and hes Brilliant too!

At the end of the day its the Doctor, one man, but the actors......oh the agony of deciding! and the stories were better too.

I'm partial to Davison's The Visitation atm. Really struggle to like Pertwee, though, always have, don't really know why.

I'm not wild about Pertwee, but I like his companions and I loved the Brig.

I'm a bit meh about the costume. I like the lines of it, and the boots, but there's too much eyecatching white at the top -- it needs something to break that up a bit. DS thinks it "isn't very exciting"

weve been given some dvds of old docs so going through them bit by bit.

Brig reminds me of Rowan Atkinsons army blackadder character.

but hes brill too.

DH and I are just beginning a marathon - we were watching the pilot and the first episode last night, to spot the differences and DH said Let's go through the lot. So we finished the cavemen off yesterday and we're just about to start the Daleks. Wonder how long we'll take to finish....

I'm with you on the Easter thing too. Although I think it's probably too late now as we would have heard about it by now. I know they've finished the first block of filming tho. It's a loooong wait for september but I think he needs a clear run to get into it. It'll definitely be worth it, he certainly looks the part and I'm pretty confident he's going to be absolutely AMAZING.
