Seeing as the first thread is almost full, I thought I'd start a new one Grin

For good measure, here is Monkseal's blog for this week.

hi, jumping in late. Did anyone else think that Sue looked really teary when she announced Star Baker? I noticed last week that she was when she had to tell Glenn he was going, but she seemed the same this week and didn't have the nasty job.

All is not well behind the scenes I think.

VikingVagine · 10/10/2013 19:21

Definitely different atmosphere this year, Sue isn't her usual perky self at all.

PoppyAmex · 10/10/2013 20:03

Did anyone notice PH being seriously snappy with Sue when they were discussing the judging at the end and she said something like "a hard decision to make" and he snapped:

"Well that's for me and Mary to discuss!"

Quangle · 10/10/2013 20:07

yes and, when they were announcing the results of one of the challenges (I think the second one of the three) Mary was standing with her eyes closed for a long time. She was not happy. And also slightly croaky so maybe a bit ill.

I really absolutely should get some sort of life Grin

ppeatfruit · 11/10/2013 08:17

Thanks for the blog Viking It was enlightening in that he mentions his partner Chris does it every other week (explains why last week's was boring and almost devoid of humour Grin).

Gracelo · 11/10/2013 08:47

So, if attractive people doing a degree at a decent university can't possibly have self confidence issue does that mean less attractive people at a rubbish university are doomed to a live of low self esteem misery?
I've been pondering this for a few days now.

Lizzabadger · 11/10/2013 23:56

There was an odd bit in the free-from episode where Paul was talking and Mary suddenly reached across and touched Sue's hand, as though to stop her talking or something.

TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 12/10/2013 00:00

lurkity lurk

PumpUpMyVolume · 12/10/2013 12:30

Are you lurking for business or pleasure, Olivia? Its all got quite heated for a GBBO discussion Smile

VikingVagine · 12/10/2013 12:53

They should have had an Eid week this week.

Well it was for pleasure actually. I was under enforced rest last week and watched the whole series in one go having never watched before.

I would assume that anyone on a GBBO thread would be adhering strictly like gluten strands tenuous link to our talk guidelines

am saying this before next episode........really dont think there's any flirtation by paul or ruby.....some of the comments above wouldn't be out of place in some period novel with a 'scandal' taking place that hadn't really happened, ending up with ruined lives due to gossipmongering

DSJamesHathaway · 13/10/2013 09:24

I think Mary and possibly Paul had colds in last week's episode. Hence the grumpiness and declaring everything to taste bland.

Lizzabadger · 13/10/2013 09:45

I agree DSQ.

Good point about the colds and blandness DSJH. I found it hard to see how Christine's, with shed-loads of spice in it, could be bland.

birdbrain21 · 13/10/2013 11:48

marking my place for this weeks episode, I have a lot to say about ruby and everyone else but too tired to get into an argument today, however may have to boycott the bbc if unhappy with the winner!

VikingVagine · 13/10/2013 11:58

Yes yes, they were clearly recovering from a hangover cold Grin

OP posts:
RussiansOnTheSpree · 13/10/2013 12:02

birdbrain I think you should definitely boycott the BBC. Probably right away. That'll show 'em.

DSJamesHathaway · 13/10/2013 19:18

Just rewatching and I think Beca should have been star baker this week. I hope she gets it next week or wins the series.

RussiansOnTheSpree · 13/10/2013 20:11

On what basis do you think Beca should have been star baker? She came second to last in the technical and her cake tasted so bad that PH suspected she had messed up her measurements either in the receipe or while making it. The reason she wasn't kicked out is that her bread was great and Christine's bread fell apart.

BergholtStuttleyJohnson · 13/10/2013 20:46

I seem to be in a minority but I really like Ruby. She's amazing for a twenty year old and given that the others are way more experienced than her she probably does think she'd be shit compared to them. I don't think she's fake, I think she's an introvert so isn't comfortable expressing herself very well so it comes across as a bit fake looking. I think Kimberly should have been star baker this week though. Frances or Ruby to win!

PoppyAmex · 15/10/2013 07:00

Kimberley is far Prettier

He's such a buffoon and so very inappropriate!

yesbutnobut · 15/10/2013 08:50

I wonder what this evening will bring? French theme so should be good. Beca to go tonight no doubt.

ArtisanLentilWeaver · 15/10/2013 11:23

I honestly don't think Mary would tolerate beauty over ability as she is a consummate professional.
Good luck to them all tonight.
