Having really not liked Ruby up till now, I've decided to give everyone a break and just enjoy the show as much as poss spoils the point of me posting on here I guess

I was a bit annoyed at her 'I need you Mel!' bit but as Frances didn't seem to bat an eyelid - and Mel was helping her to fill her icing bag with raspberry ripple stuff - I wonder if it was set up. Otherwise I'd have expected Frances to have had a wtf face on...

I think Chritine is nice but she irritates the hell out of me. Ruby is a pretty girl who bakes well - can't see the problem with her calling someone who said call me later when you need me?

Ok I love Becca, Frances and Christine. Ruby really annoys me with her faux 'oh it's rubbish'.. grrr I hope she doesn't win.

I liked Kimberly at the beginning but she pisses me off now too. She's gone very cocky and smug.

I'd really like Becca to win out of them all.

I'll be really pissed off if Ruby wins it but I think she might. The way Paul Hollywood looks at her makes me shudder, he's so predatory.

And Mary Berry has gotten mean this year... I can't remember her being so mean previously.

I like all of them, and it's looking a lot more wide-open who's going to win (if I had to put money on it I'd still go for Kimberley or Ruby, but I could see any of the remaining five winning the title on a good day). Frances is really showing what she can do now she's dropped the over-cutesy design.

I think everyone's being very harsh on Ruby. Her main problem is that she's a really good instinctive baker -- so when Glen or Howard or someone says "I've never cooked this before; it'll probably be a disaster" then about 50% of the time it is a disaster and we all smile along with them. But when Ruby has never cooked something before and predicts it'll be a disaster she almost always manages to pull it off, so then we interpret her lack of confidence as fake. She seems perfectly lovely to me (as do they all, to be honest). I'm sure if they had 20 hours of footage of any of us they could spin a "story" out of it that we wouldn't like or recognise.

Plenty of other contestants think their dish is perfectly cooked when in fact it's undercooked (so they think it's more cooked than it is). Why is what Ruby does (thinking it's overcooked when in fact it's perfectly cooked) so different? Unless you are taking the consistent but rather harsh approach that they are all fakes, I suppose. None of them can really tell whether the thing is under-, over- or perfectly cooked until they cut into it, which they don't get to do because that's down to Paul and Mary.

Under or over cooked is one thing. Burnt is a whole different thing. Burnt is visible. You can smell it. Saying something is burnt is either true or false. You can't think it may or may not be burnt. It either is or it isn't.

I haven't decided that she "can do no wrong". But she's twenty years old, she's appearing under stress in a very heavily edited television programme, and off the back of that millions of people have become convinced that they know the innermost details of her psyche. She's been called a fake, manipulative, disingenuous, sulky. Ridiculously, some have even said that she's only doing as well as she is because Paul Hollywood fancies her. She's been hounded off Twitter. She's had to shut down her blog.

What I have decided is that giving her the benefit of the doubt, rather than heaping more abuse on someone I have never met, is the decent way to behave. And even if I hadn't decided that, I would have had the basic politeness not to lay into her on a thread that her mother frequents.

It's obvious how much Paul fancies her and the fact that she goes all coy a d is lapping it up makes me want to gag. If I were her if be making sure the nasty old leach new he was in for no chance what so ever. I most certainly wouldn't be bloody simpering every time he spoke to me.

Well, that is an assumption, isn't it? No one has said they are her mother.

However, I really don't mind saying these things in front of her mother. If you set yourself up in these things then people will have an opinion of you. Not all of these opinions will be favourable.

Let's not argue. I know it's a naff thing to say but I do really enjoy this thread and I enjoy GBBO and it doesn't have to turn into an AIBU bun-fight (lame GBBO gag to lighten the tone).

We will all view things differently and we don't have to convert others to our views.

I'm not a Ruby fan but I don't think it's fair to be harsh about her because she is clearly Paul's favourite because she's pretty. That's not her fault and there isn't anything she can do about it. It was probably quite isolating for her as well during the competition. Really, we should all be ridiculing him for being such a lechy perv who should show more decorum.

Also, didn't Paul look smug when he was commenting on Glenn's puff pastry technique wen tasting it. It was that 'I told you so. I'm always right. Haaha you experimented and it didn't pay off' attitude. Like someone who takes glee in other people's failures.

Mary is honest but it seems she does share the contestants glee at discovering something has gone to plan where the prick Paul just seems to revel in everyone mishaps and enjoy saying stuff that is rude and bitter.

He's not that nice a personality.
