PS I also think the family is acting weirdly. The lots of sitting about staring into space thing rings true, but no tears from any of them?

diddl · 26/03/2013 18:26

So, I don't think it's Jack as that's too obvious!

PQ's character-nasty-what's she hiding?

Criminal past?

And Nigel-was he at the hut & she knows?

I'm really confused now!

montage · 26/03/2013 18:43

Did we definitely see it was jack who was burning the photos?

I only saw burning photos but may have missed seeing who was burning them?

I don't think Ellie actually suspects anything about her husband and she doesn't want to think about her son being involved in anything at all.

But if the cast don't actually know who did it her lack of suspicion would mean nothing at all.

I also don't really get how Danny's family are playing it at this stage or if his mum tried to rattle his dad deliberately going into the press conference because she actually wants him to look guilty? Because she feels he is in some way?

NorthernLurker · 26/03/2013 18:48

I'm wondering if it is about the red diesal thefts after all. Who would need cheap fuel at times like these? Small business men with vans to run > and the proprieter of a boat trip business? Could be part of a bigger smuggling ring - which is why Danny was killed on a boat. In this case the viacr definately is the ringleader (Read to much Jamaica Inn!)

MortifiedAdams · 26/03/2013 19:32

I think everyone who is acting suspicious is up to something dodgy, eother involving Danny or rhink Danny know of it, amd therefore thinks the death is connected to them - however at the end it will come clear that whoever did kill him was up to some seriously major stuff way way ovee the top and everyone else will be phew

XBenedict · 26/03/2013 20:36

What about the psychic? Is he really a psychic or does he just know all this stuff because he did it? Kind of leading them to it.

bigbadbarry · 26/03/2013 21:20

DH reckons it is the plumbers mate, based purely on the killing. (Hopes nobody is currently watching the box set.) It bears so little resemblance in other ways - look, family, that is how you should act - that I don't think that is a good enough reason :)

fruitstick · 26/03/2013 22:43

My friend reckons Beth did it but I reckon she's lost a marble (my friend, not Beth).

Yes, I thought plumber's mate purely based on The Killing. The diesel is definitely connected somehow.

I keep going back to the power cut at the beginning and plumbers mate being late and asking Danny's Dad 'about last night'

Must get life.

armagh · 27/03/2013 00:32

Thank you X Benedict for the summary. Itv player doesn't work for me so your synopsis was great

Iwantacampervan · 27/03/2013 06:47

I thought it was a bit surreal on Monday when 'Rory' and 'The Doctor' sat on the same bench (until I realised that they hadn't been in the same series of 'Doctor Who').

XBenedict · 27/03/2013 08:20

It was a bit disjointed armagh but hopefully you get the idea Smile

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 27/03/2013 10:56

Why haven't they brought in Pauline Quirke for questioning? Especially now they've (finally!) checked the hut key records and they prove that she was lying about Danny's dad not collecting the keys on that day.

I think Jack is a red herring too and that strand is there as a warning against paedo hysteria (he will kill himself next episode I reckon).

montage, who is the hotel woman's boss?

The vicar is involved somehow, but didn't kill him.

I agree the psychic man is involved and trying to lead them to the killer without having to confess to anything. But then I think he probably didn't kill Danny but just knows something.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/03/2013 11:23

I am Mrs Baffled from Baffled Street, Baffledtown, Baffledshire, and I have a degree in advanced Bafflement from the University of Baffling. Maybe I need to watch it all again from the beginning, with this thread to hand, and try to work out what is going on.

LittleAbruzzenBear · 27/03/2013 12:24

Agree, it clearly isn't Jack, but it reflects the kind of witch hunt and trial by media that happens in RL. Ellie's son knows who did it, convinced of that.

fruitstick · 27/03/2013 13:12

Right. I've just gone back and watched the first episode.

The forensic bloke said he was strangled by a man - with large hands.

And the person Danny was arguing with had hair (according to Jack)

So we have

  • will mellor
  • Ellie's husband
-Mark's mate

I don't think it was Mark. Only Will Mellor has hair!

fruitstick · 27/03/2013 13:12

Or the journalist

Wingedharpy · 27/03/2013 13:45

Who are the owner(s) of the hut on the hill?

eatyourveg · 27/03/2013 14:04

I reckon its the dad's friend the plumber. This week he cooked them a roast - he cut the joint with a knife - camera zoomed in on the knife and then someone held up a hair from the meat. Bet it was danny's hair and the knife was the murder weapon. The owner of the knife is completely bald and afaik lives alone so how did the hair get there

Otherwise it was Danny's best friend - the WPC's son. Perhaps he stole the knife

diddl · 27/03/2013 14:10

Yes I thought at the time-"there's a hair but the cook's bald"??!!

Couldn't figure out what the significance of that might be.

rottenscoundrel · 27/03/2013 14:16

how do you all watch and think at the same time

I am so knackered from work I think I must just sit in front of the screen and disengage my brain

newpup · 27/03/2013 14:17

Danny was strangled though! Smile

rottenscoundrel · 27/03/2013 14:20

I just thought god it's just like my cooking and how I wonder why there has to be hair everywhere

fwiw his mate is very suspect and that's as far as my thought process has gone

and I also think SURELY PQ can't be menacing the whole time

BartletForTeamGB · 27/03/2013 14:29

I really need to stop watching this while doing other things because I miss so much. I thought it was weird about the hair but didn't think any more of it, perhaps because I'd missed the knife. I think I am going to have to go back to the start once it is all done and watch it again and then perhaps it will all make sense!

LittleBairn · 27/03/2013 15:04

I must be watching with my head in a bucket never ever mind all the clues I've missed I didn't realise the Vicar was Dr Who Rory even though I've watched every Dr who episode.
I also don't notice the Hotel owner was Scottish I though she was an Aussie...I'm a Scot!

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 27/03/2013 15:37

The hotel woman is Aussie ...

Does anyone know who her 'male boss' is? (he is mentioned upthread).

I thought that about the hair in the roast too. And I think the plumber's mate is dodgy; crossbow and gormless grin and all.
