I am so, so glad Kevin got help. As he said, we all need help sometimes.

Methe · 13/12/2012 21:52

My family were evicted during the last recession. I was 16 and had a younger siblings. My parents are educated, fairly middle class, moral people. Myself and all of my family have done alright. It wasn't a nice process, long way from it but its turned out ok.

How does a person get into such massive arrears on their council house they get evicted? I thought that was was housing benefit was for?

ifso · 13/12/2012 21:53

unmumsnetty hug Vicar

Sleepingbunnies · 13/12/2012 21:53

Apparently they didn't provide the paperwork for housing benefit?..

ifso · 13/12/2012 21:55

i've been burned in the past too, so now hold very little emotion towards my 'things' as they are just that - tat really - and i now go minimalist and sell so much on ebay so often to keep a safety net. stuff creates problems for me. and I avoid the shops more too...

VicarInaTutuDrankSantasSherry · 13/12/2012 21:55

thank you ifso if it hadnt been for my DH i have no idea what would have happened to me. he let me sleep on his sofa. thats how he became my DH.....

expatinscotland · 13/12/2012 21:56

'How does a person get into such massive arrears on their council house they get evicted? I thought that was was housing benefit was for? '

They apparently didn't keep going in with benefit paperwork and respond to court summons.

AnyaKnowIt · 13/12/2012 21:57

I was made homeless when I was in my teens. Council couldn't give a shit as I had a min wage job and under 25.

expatinscotland · 13/12/2012 21:58

Her house is still up for sale. Could have rented it back to her and not lost even more money on it. Oh, well.

Could let they not have given Patricia a few months grace.

That poor lady.

Sleepingbunnies · 13/12/2012 21:59

Patricia's story is so heart breaking. Barclays should be thoroughly ashamed..!

PickledInAPearTree · 13/12/2012 21:59

Just thinking that expat.

spiderbabymum · 13/12/2012 21:59

this poor family , my heart goes out to them......all their stuff in storage and its like their journey of suffering is just beginning.

VicarInaTutuDrankSantasSherry · 13/12/2012 22:00

really felt for Patricia. dreadful.

mamalovebird · 13/12/2012 22:00

Similarly to Vicar, I was placed in a hostel on my 16th birthday after my mum threw me out. I shared a room with the heroin addict and a DV victim. One week later we all got thrown out because the landlady found the addict's needles. I thank my lucky stars that a friends mum let me sleep on their floor for 6 weeks until I got a bedsit on a young persons homeless project.

I moved out of that City but some years later when I went back I saw the heroin addict selling the big issue on the street. That'll stay with me forever.

I don't really know what my point is, watching programmes like that just bring it all back.

spiderbabymum · 13/12/2012 22:01

On the other hand I have no doubt that Kevin will be fine . What a lovely honest kind of chap

jinglebellyalltheway · 13/12/2012 22:02
