West Wing Series 7

So who's watching and and what do you think?

I'm a bit disappointed, there isn't enough White House stuff and too much on the campaign trail. I think that although at the end of the last season I liked both Santos and Vinnick, there is too much of them so far in this.

Vinnick has started being painted as a bit of a baddie after last weeks episode, but I don't feel that bothered about the election as I know that I won't be seeing the winner in the White House.

Santos new advisor Lou is just a watered down Amy, and I don't feel that involved with any of the campaign staff.

What about the leak? Where are Leo, Jed, Charlie, CJ and the rest?

We have freeview but for reasons that escape me can't get e4 or more4. I WANT THOSE DVDS!!

(last night I dreamt that Bartlett went to his grandmother's graduation ceremony on capitol hill but that the pond/lakey thing overflowed and killed 20 white horses - is that in this series?)

lilibet · 01/05/2006 09:50

I thought that the Josh/Toby scenes last night were very good, but I still want more White House!

And did anyone else notice the way that Kate looked at Will? I spy a romance!

OP posts:
tribpot · 01/05/2006 10:53

There was a trailer for next week's episode with CJ asking a blonde woman (you only saw the back of her head, I think) "you asked Will out?". Now, I doubt that was Ellie Bartlet (marrying the most boring man on the planet) and unlikely to be Donna in the White House, although there was an undercurrent of romance between her and Will in the earlier campaign.

Reasonably enjoyable at the moment but not a patch on the "proper" West Wing. CJ coming in to sort out Ellie's wedding problems? Yeah right. Where's the Pres, Leo's barely in it either, and to be honest Josh and Toby fighting just doesn't seem that believable either.

Plus Toby saying Santos isn't the right man because he doesn't want to be Pres enough - surely Toby wouldn't have forgotten that Jed Bartlet also spent most of his early campaign not convinced he wanted to be president.

Ellbell · 01/05/2006 11:14

Yeah, tribpot, but what Toby said about knowing with no doubt whatsoever that 'your' man was the right man for the job did ring bells. In series 2, when there are a series of flashbacks to the first Bartlet campaign and to how the team got involved, there was the sense that as soon as anyone set eyes on Bartlet they just 'knew' that he was the next president.

I liked the Josh/Toby scenes too.

Find the thought of anyone fancying Will difficult to comprehend!

Can someone fill me in on the episode I missed and let me know how Donna came to be back in the Santos campaign? And has she actually spoken to Josh at all yet?

tribpot · 01/05/2006 12:15

True, Leo had a solid conviction about Bartlet that led the way for the others, whereas Josh seems less certain about Santos, perhaps why he asked Leo to be V-P, to shore up his doubts? Hmm.

Donna was hired by Lou as they needed a new spokesperson, Josh wanted a 40-something "soccer mom" type so he wasn't best pleased when Donna showed up. They've spoken a couple of times, mainly to have massive rows.

Ellbell · 01/05/2006 23:20

Oh thanks tribpot... just what I needed on the Donna catch-up...! Was wondering if Leo's appearance in this latest episode was going to be his last (and how they'll write him out).

lilibet · 02/05/2006 12:34

Leo has a few more weeks yet and I have no idea how they are going to write him out.

Ellbell · 08/05/2006 00:42

Anyone else get a lump in their throat in this week's episode (just watched it tonight) when Leo said 'Are you guys trying to kill me?'. Oh, Leo....!

ladymuck · 08/05/2006 01:39

And worse to come I guess. I understand that the US have already seen the Election Day.

lilibet · 08/05/2006 19:55

Poor Josh! and someone tell me I wsa right with Will and Kate? Grin

adn what did Abbie look like at the wedding? Get a mirror woman!

OP posts:
thirtysomething · 08/05/2006 20:32

How plausible is the Will and Kate story-not!!! Bizarre. He's not exactly convincing as White House Spokesperson let alone as White House stud!! Are Donna and Josh ever going to get it together? Can't believe this is the last ever series, why do all good US dramas have to end! (Six feet Under, Ally MacBeal, I even liked Beverley Hills 90210 in my dim and distant youth!)

lilibet · 08/05/2006 20:51

I think Donna and Josh have to get together. I shall be so disappointed if they don't

OP posts:
Ellbell · 08/05/2006 22:08

There was more than a frisson of sexual tension when she sat down by him on the stairs at the wedding, wasn't there? Something just has to happen, surely.

Lilibet... you were right about Kate and Will Wink. Odd, though... I mean... she can't really fancy him, can she? That would just be too weird.

lilibet · 12/05/2006 16:02

Oh dear, tonight's the night

Leo's final episode Sad Sad Sad

Hankies at the ready..............

Come on Ellbell!!

OP posts:
Ellbell · 22/05/2006 23:35

Well... it took a while (was away for the weekend), but I have finally watched it (thanks to the wonderful lilibet Grin).

Oh, it was so SadSadSadSadSadSad.

But also a great way to go - at least Leo came out on top and managed 'the story' too. I'm glad that his last episode was a positive one, at least.

The 'romance' [puke emoticon] between Kate and Will was a bit offputting though... It felt inappropriate in the circs. Mind you, I didn't like the squeaking dwarf man-handling Leo either. Perhaps I'm just becoming a miserable prude in my old age!

Saw the most recent episode too. Nice to see Danny back (and thought CJ was masterful in it). But no mention of Leo... do you think they are actually going to write him out? Or do you think they'll keep him 'hidden' (but pretending he's still alive) till the end of the series? (Don't think they can, can they? It'd get very clumsy, surely...)

Anyway, thank you lilibet for saving me from missing Leo's finale.

lilibet · 23/05/2006 09:18

Wasn't it wonderful? I got choked up at the start when Martin Sheen did his bit.

I do know how and when they write him out as I had a peek at something that I shouldn't have!

I thought Danny's proposal was lovely, they are a very well matched couple - unlike Will and Kate who really don't go together.

OP posts:
Ellbell · 23/05/2006 10:10

Ooh, you are naughty. I am so tempted to peek at the TWOP website, but am trying to resist.

Will and Kate - a bit implausible. In fact, the idea of anyone fancying Will is a bit implausible.

Danny's proposal was just lovely. He's looking good, don't you think? Seems to have lost weight and looks a bit more 'groomed' than before.

I wish I knew what CJ did to that goldfish, though. It must be ancient (about 8?). Haven't had much success keeping mine alive for more than a few weeks (though admittedly I do often forget to feed them and the dog has been known to drink out of the goldfish bowl).

sfxmum · 23/05/2006 10:19

what i want to know is who will they choose for vice president, can't find spoilers.
i know what they offer Vinnick but what about vice-pres i am obsessed - help

lilibet · 23/05/2006 10:28

I don't know who they will offer it to, but I did think that it would be good (if slightly implausible) if it was to go to Sam

OP posts:
sfxmum · 23/05/2006 12:06

i thought sam would be chief of staff
oh i must know!Grin

apart from Leo sadness am quite looking forward to Donna Josh thing.
poor old CJ needs something good so sorry when dishy secret service guy got shot

tribpot · 23/05/2006 12:10

I think Josh is probably hoping that after all his hard work Santos is going to make him Chief of Staff!

sfxmum · 23/05/2006 22:49

quite! must stop trawling through US sites where all i get are negative comments about Santos, apparently not latino enough and has blond wife(????)
will just wait and see

tribpot · 24/05/2006 09:23

Maybe Santos should insist on wearing one of those black mariachi hats with the silver embroidery on?
