So who's watching and and what do you think?

I'm a bit disappointed, there isn't enough White House stuff and too much on the campaign trail. I think that although at the end of the last season I liked both Santos and Vinnick, there is too much of them so far in this.

Vinnick has started being painted as a bit of a baddie after last weeks episode, but I don't feel that bothered about the election as I know that I won't be seeing the winner in the White House.

Santos new advisor Lou is just a watered down Amy, and I don't feel that involved with any of the campaign staff.

What about the leak? Where are Leo, Jed, Charlie, CJ and the rest?

looking foward to this weeks episode having seen the trailer - nice to see Toby getting back involved if only in a small way. I also have stopped reading the US sites, should not be looking Wink

tribpot · 27/05/2006 09:42

Have just watched this week's ep and didn't see either of the bits from the trailer, did I miss something?

Ellbell · 27/05/2006 17:09

Didn't see the trailer, but definitely no Toby in this week's episode... Perhaps they showed the wrong trailer.

tribpot · 27/05/2006 19:59

I think they must have done. Toby was talking on the phone and then there was a scene with Josh and Donna that all WW fans would remember if it had been in this week's ep!

Ellbell · 27/05/2006 20:10

Something is going to happen between Josh and Donna before the end of this series... isn't it? [crossed fingers emoticon]

tribpot · 27/05/2006 20:12

Would be nice, although the old spark from their relationship has gone, along with the decent writing.

thirtysomething · 30/05/2006 21:06

can anyone tell me what happened last Friday (26th?) - video didn't work and I can't wait till this Fri. to work it out!

Ellbell · 30/05/2006 21:25

Well, the whole episode was focused on the problems with the nuclear plant in California. Turned out that Vinick was not only pro-nuclear but had lobbyed to get the plant that was in trouble opened. The Santos camp know this, but Josh advises keeping schtumm and not looking as if they are trying to make political capital out of a disaster. Meanwhile lots of 'what do we do?' stuff... They have to release some radioactive steam (??? sorry, bit hazy on the science) into the atmosphere to stop everything blowing up, and need to evacuate the area. Chaos ensues, basically. Meanwhile the problem isn't being solved and they have to send in two guys to try to fix the faulty valve in one of the reactors. They stay in there longer than they should trying to fix it and are taken to hospital suffering from radiation sickness. This is going on overnight. Bartlet decides that he will fly down to California first thing in the morning and tradition dictates that he takes the senior senate member for California (which happens to be Vinick) with him. Vinick is freaked out by the failure of the Santos camp to leap on him for his pro-nuclear stance, and is persuaded to make a statement, which goes really badly. As he flies down to California (now safe - the faulty valve has been fixed by a second rescue team) with the president they get news that one of the chaps who went in with the first rescue team has died. Santos makes a brief, succinct, caring statement and the polls start showing loads of states going over to the Democrats.

OK, tribpot, lilibet... what have I missed?

Alternatively, for a full, blow-by-blow summary, look \link{http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com/story.cgi?show=4&story=8775&limit=&sort=\here}. Hopefully this link should lead you to last week's episode only, but beware that if you go back to the main TWOP site there are spoilers as it keeps up with the US schedule.

thirtysomething · 30/05/2006 21:39

thanks for that ellbell, you are a star! I'm very grateful, sounds like I missed a stonking episode too. Can't beleive it will all end soon, what am I going to watch!

Ellbell · 03/06/2006 22:38

So come on.... who saw it last night? Comments please! (Am deliberately posting obscurely, iyswim, in case anyone hasn't seen it yet and will watch it tomorrow night...)

lilibet · 04/06/2006 15:23

Pretty good precis Ellbell!

I've not seen it yet but I know what happens Grin

I've started a thread telling people to watch it

I will post after I have seen it

OP posts:
tribpot · 04/06/2006 15:31

Saw it - featured that bit that was in the trailer the week before, will pass no comment until all are ready :)

Fillyjonk · 04/06/2006 15:40

oh god, can someone just say how leo dies, please?

thirtysomething · 04/06/2006 21:55

just watched this week's episode - wow, finally josh and Donna beginning to get together - will that be it d'you reckon?

Ellbell · 04/06/2006 21:58

It was good wasn't it. Thought Donna was super-cool when Josh tried to apologise...

thirtysomething · 04/06/2006 22:00

Am sure they'll let this one drag on and on with no resolution - they don't seem to like Mills and Boons' type ending in WW ....

Fillyjonk · 05/06/2006 07:41

no, i'm sorry, josh and donne = shark jumping imo.

and whats happened to the dialogue?

its got last-seasons itis now.

tribpot · 05/06/2006 08:54

If you watch any of the early WWs and compare them with the dialogue now, you can see how the quality has been dropping off, ironically I think they've been trying to dumb it down / glam it up in order to appeal to a wider audience, which hasn't worked worth a damn.

Donna and Josh - if they are really going to play this storyline that Donna's miffed about the key, talk about tedious. (Btw, how was she planning to get into the room herself? Hang about outside til he got there and hope no-one else walked by?!)

I wonder what's happened to Charlie and Zoey ...

Ellbell · 05/06/2006 12:30

tribpot... you took the words right out of my mouth (well... off my keyboard!). Was lying in bed last night (like I don't have anything better to worry about) wondering where Charlie had gone. Wasn't he working for CJ?

Good point about Donna. I am now imagining her hiding in one of those dirty laundry trolleys that hotels have, and popping up with a towel on her head as Josh walks down the corridor....

Agree about the lack of Mills and Boon endings, but as this is the last series they might give in to the temptation to set up a 'happy ever after' scenario... like with CJ and Danny.

lilibet · 05/06/2006 12:45

Did anyone else shed a tear?

I was so pleased that they got together and I think that they will end up together. I like Josh and Donna.

Ellbell - thought of you when Will and Kate were discussing her bra!!

OP posts:
Fillyjonk · 05/06/2006 13:25

yes the key irked me. i went to bed wondering how she was going to get into the room without a key. I also was wondering why josh couldn't have knocked. but really, the whole thing depressed me, it just seems wrong and predictable. It really feels like its petering out, tying up all the loose ends "and they got married and lived happily ever after"

I really had my fingers crossed for a spin off with santos in the whitehouse.

wtf do i do now, anyway? ww is the only tv show i watch!

sis · 05/06/2006 13:53

For those fearing serious withdrawal symptoms, can I recommend trying to catch Boston Legal - it is shown on Thursday nights at 10pm on living tv (or is it living uk?). It stars James Spader, William Shatner and Candice Bergen - it isn't West Wing at its best but it is streets ahead of anything else on TV (other than West Wing, of course).

prettybird · 05/06/2006 14:36

Commander in Chief is a sort of "West Wing-Lite", with all the the machinations and getting to know the different characters. It doesn't have the depth of dialogue that (escpeically the early)West Wings have.

It is on abc on Tuesday's (I think), 9pm, Friday at 2pm and Sunday at 5pm - which is when we watch it, as abc switches off Freeview at 6pm sharp. We missed the last minute once, when it was running slightly late! Shock

I am avoiding the tempation to look at any of the sploier sites - want to go "live" this last series properly. Grin

Ellbell · 05/06/2006 20:00

Also (lilibet told me Grin) that Aaron Sorkin (who wrote WW series 1-4) is working on a new series based around the set of a sitcom (or something like that... I googled it and then stopped myself reading too much). It features Bradley Whitford and the chap who plays Danny and, um, someone else from the WW... sorry, all a bit vague... lilibet knows more than me.

Will and Kate... oh boy... (1) they did it in his office... I mean, aren't there security guards and stuff around that place all the time? (2) She left her bra there. How do you do that. I know she hasn't had kids (I'd remember at the point when my norks started banging into my knees...), but she's not flat-chested, surely she noticed. Plot-line (or, rather, sub-sub-sub-plot-line) written by a man, imho.

But who else thinks that the prize for best line of the season so far goes to Debbie Fiderer when she said to Vinick 'Make yourself comfortable' and then (sotto voce) 'Not too comfortable' ... and then denied having said anything at all?

Josh and Donna... predictable, but kinda nice.

tribpot · 05/06/2006 20:22

Will and Kate - surely shades of Prescott and Will getting in trouble for misuse of government facilities? This would never have happened when Nancy McNally ran the show (as she actually still does but they wrote her out in favour of someone younger and blonder).

I also read something about Sorkin having a new show, have you seen Sports Night at all? (The one he did before WW).
