Yep, a lot of them were told to leave. Civil wars are the most brutal of wars so I can understand turning your back on it all.

IAmSheWhoMustBeObeyed · 14/10/2012 23:07

And now the predictions for next time.
bates saga will finally come to a conclusion. Who cares about the details. Snore
Ethel will become the salt of the earth, an ok cook (thanks to Mrs Pattmore and Mrs Hughes) and be Forgiven. Possibly she will catch the eye of a footman, get married and live happily ever after. Or she, Edith and Matthew's mum (forgotten her name) will form a women's health clinic and campaign for women's rights. She and Edith will fall in love. Edith will affect a monocle, male attire and a crew cut and JF will channel Radcliffe Hall.

MordionAgenos · 14/10/2012 23:08

Oh, and the eclampsia thing? As soon as she mentioned her swollen ankles it was obvious. :(

straighttohellymelly · 14/10/2012 23:08

I'm another one whose mother was perilously close to full blown eclampsia and had an emergency c-section, which luckily saved us both.
(unusually I was her second baby she had been fine with db)
it meant I was born in 1963 instead of 1964, and I was rushed to a different hospital, while Mum was too ill to move, but we were both fine.

NerdAmigo · 14/10/2012 23:10

I guessed at the headaches.

Northernlurkerisbehindyouboo · 14/10/2012 23:11

I think Tom probably is going to turn his back on Downton and go back to Ireland - where he will be shot by Lord Grantham's paid assassin

Mary will doubtless have a massive wobble about having a baby and all in all I don't think her relationship with Matthew is looking too good.
I wonder if Cora can forgive her husband? It wasn't actually his fault - Sybil had a lethal condition - but I would jolly well blame him too.

IAmSheWhoMustBeObeyed · 14/10/2012 23:14

this is what made me think Thomas was in Dr Who. This actor is called Harry Lloyd

UltraBOF · 14/10/2012 23:14

I love the idea of Edith as a bemonocled lesbian. I can totally see that.

LittleWhiteWolf · 14/10/2012 23:16

Lord G cannot and should not make decisions about anything, they are always wrong. He should be relegated to sorting socks or something equally non-life threatening.

MordionAgenos · 14/10/2012 23:17

Harry Lloyd from Family of Blood was subsequently in Robin of Sherwood.

tribpot · 14/10/2012 23:19

I can imagine Mary being - understandably - terrified at the idea of conceiving now. Mind you, I'm not sure she's going to forgive Matthew for consulting the lawyer on the day Sybil died - perhaps the women could evict all the men (with Pickle going on a voluntary basis even though he was an arse last week) and run Downton as a Feminist Collective?

squoosh · 14/10/2012 23:19

Thomas is the only good looking actor to have been in DA. Granted his people skills are somewhat lacking . . . .

Mollydoggerson · 14/10/2012 23:20

Prediction:

  1. Tom will leave, but can of course flit in and out visitiing child whenever there is a need to liven up the storyline.
  2. Mrs Hughes and Carson will be come closer as a result of the tragedy and the upcoming upheaval with Ethel about.
  3. Downstairs, Tomas will chase Jimmy and Jimmy will feign interest in Daisy to avoid Tomas. Daisy's heart will be broken again.
  4. Mrs. Patmore will help Ethel and there will be some deep dark secret about her being the offspring of a prostitute herself, thereafter Carson et all will have to accept Ethel back into the fold.
  5. Edith will write about feminist stuff.
  6. Lord and Lady g will have a big falling out and perhaps Lady G will head to America to visit her folks, she might bring the baby and Edith with her and maybe meet up with Branson over there. Edith will become more worldly as a result of her travels and bring back all sorts of new fangled ideas.
  7. Mary will stay at home, brewing further resentment with everyone, she may even lose a baby, as a result of syphilis or some such illness. Wasn't there one sexually transmitted illness that caused the death/miscarriage of babies but that eventually burned itself out of the system?
  8. Matthew will have an affair.
IAmSheWhoMustBeObeyed · 14/10/2012 23:22

Oh and of course O'Brien smokes and has v. Dark hair...........Evil!!!

SophySinclair · 14/10/2012 23:26

I was convinced that the actor who plays Thomas was in a Dr Who but it doesn't appear in his Wiki info.

I thought that too, though he was in the Family of Blood episode here

Mollydoggerson · 14/10/2012 23:30

Oh, and tractors and such like will be introduced to the land to make it more profitable and the whole estate will become a hive of activity with more farm labourers about.

One thing DA is missing is male staff to help with hunting and shooting and general upkeep of the estate.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 14/10/2012 23:30

Defrost Marys eggs :o

I dont get why she was being weird with Matthew about babies but told Sybil she was trying Confused

LadyMaryCreepyCrawley · 14/10/2012 23:31

Ahem.... {glares} My eggs do not need defrosting!

UltraBOF · 14/10/2012 23:32

I thought they already had tractors, because Edith was driving one during the war?

Northernlurkerisbehindyouboo · 14/10/2012 23:36

They could do with more tractors. Lady Edith can advise on that point.

Here's a question - does Little Sybil have a title at all. She's not an Honourable Sybil Branson is she?

Mollydoggerson · 14/10/2012 23:36

Yes, but more tractos lots and lots of them, and other stuff, combine harvestors etc.Grin

Northernlurkerisbehindyouboo · 14/10/2012 23:40

Just checked Wikipedia and no Little Sybil is only Miss Pickle. She woud have to be the daughter of a viscount to be an Honourable.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 14/10/2012 23:40

I think Im the only one on here who actually loves mary. She is a little frosty though.

I also love Lord G. Well, I am disgusted at his behaviour tonight. But I do love him.
