I am responsible for Lord 6, last year my laptop was broken and I had no G key, so I cleverly inserted 6 instead. Some people found this amusing and kept it up. Waves hello to all.

squoosh · 14/10/2012 22:48

I think her death was quite well sign posted in that JF didn't even bother giving the character any real lines. She had gone from being a major character to just a shadow.

eatingrottenapples · 14/10/2012 22:48

Did anyone know she was going to die? Best kept secret ever

NerdAmigo · 14/10/2012 22:48

Women still die of pre-eclampsia in this country today. Thought this episode was quite good for awareness actually. Particularly it happening after the birth.

squoosh · 14/10/2012 22:49

My Grandad had to run to America. Had to wait 15 years before the coast was clear and he could go home.

Mollydoggerson · 14/10/2012 22:49

Jessica/Sybil literally said nothing during Jonathon Ross's interview of the 3 sisters. It's all so clear now, they were avoiding discussing her character completely.

eatingrottenapples · 14/10/2012 22:49

Ok. Well sqoosh knewSmile

eatingrottenapples · 14/10/2012 22:50

And MollySmile

Theas18 · 14/10/2012 22:51

Ds ( with whom I hold my downton watching sacred ) knew either or both would die.

Convenient vehicle for Mary / matthew to obtain a ready made baby I think , and continue the the line etc

Bloody well acted, tragic etc. hope it raises eclamsia awareness women and babies still die every year after all.

Visitor57 · 14/10/2012 22:52

It was 1920 last week so the War of Independance is still on.

I don't get Branson as a rebel. He watched a house burn and attended some meetings, he's hardly Michael Collins or Dev, why go on the run?

I also don't see how Lord G has any pull with the Home Secretary, he never goes up to London to sit in the House of Lords (he never does anything at all that I can see).

JennaLemon · 14/10/2012 22:53

yes and sadly, with more women than ever overweight, having children later, and getting gestational diabetes - could be on the rise.

i can't watch it til wednesday but as it's so sad i think i'm glad i have a headsup. i'll have the tissues ready.

IAmSheWhoMustBeObeyed · 14/10/2012 22:53

I was convinced that the actor who plays Thomas was in a Dr Who but it doesn't appear in his Wiki info.

LittleWhiteWolf · 14/10/2012 22:54

Just checked the sky episode information and it doesn't even mention the birth, let alone death.

Am moving on to irritation now; something had better come out of her death (Edith becoming super-duper feminist campaigner, as I may have mentioned!) otherwise I shall be pissed. Sybil was the most interesting sister starting midway through series one, so to reduce her to the role of "womb" would be a disservice to her character.

FourArms · 14/10/2012 22:54

My predictions of a fortnight or so ago came true :(

Very good acting, sobbed my way through & had to give both my babies a kiss before bed. :( :(

Moln · 14/10/2012 22:54

Mordion - I meant Branston himself getting that sort of job, not just someone Irish.

i thought the direction was towards Sybil dying too. Shame though liked he character.

IAmSheWhoMustBeObeyed · 14/10/2012 22:56

We all predicted her death last week!

LadyMaryCreepyCrawley · 14/10/2012 22:57

Sad Poor Sybil.

squoosh · 14/10/2012 22:57

There's no way a republican firebrand would have sought a doffing the cap job with an English aristo family.

eatingrottenapples · 14/10/2012 22:58

Just me who didn't know then. Damn me for not checking with MN! Will not make that mistake again.

Mollydoggerson · 14/10/2012 22:58

Maybe his political views grew over time, maybe he got the job and thereafter became more political.

LittleWhiteWolf · 14/10/2012 23:00

IAmShe... here you go Looks like he was not in doctor who.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 14/10/2012 23:00

I said Eclampsia as soon as I saw Cybil! DP didnt have a clue what I was on about! Confused

squoosh · 14/10/2012 23:01

Maybe so.

I think he'll decide to become a teacher or something involved with 'making a difference'. He's a bit of a bore but the look on his little face when Sybil was dying made me bit Sad

MordionAgenos · 14/10/2012 23:02

@squoosh My grandfather did. Smile But he'd had enough by then. He was told to leave but he was happy to go as I understand it. And happy to not go back after what he had seen (this was during the civil war though not the war of independence).

UltraBOF · 14/10/2012 23:04

I thought it was garbage that he had a change of heart about burning the English out of their castle, for someone willing to blather on about dinner jackets as accoutrements of oppression.
