I still can't really understand the idea that Saville was well in with politicians and the royal family etc. Surely they would just think he was a popular freak and nothing else?

SoleSource · 03/10/2012 23:38

His teeth oooh puke

He was a disgusting looking creep wasn't he.
I never liked him but now I can't stand looking at him.

MadameOvary · 03/10/2012 23:39

JS was a part of my childhood. I didn't see anything wrong with him until the Louis Theroux programme. He came across as not just eccentric but sinister.
Can't watch now. This is just the start. I think there going to be a massive amount of stuff uncovered and I hope any culpable bastards get what's coming to them Angry

MooncupGoddess · 03/10/2012 23:39

I think the Merton/Hislop script is a fake, from what I've read elsewhere.

God this is very upsetting.

GoingBlankAgain · 03/10/2012 23:40

Hislop link

nancy75 · 03/10/2012 23:41

Burlington, I think politicians have always liked to be seen with popular people of the day. We have to remember these were the days before reality tv and you tube where anyone and everyone could be famous. A famous person then was a real star and people would have been impressed by him.

Have Hislop and Merton spoken about the script of late to confirm it's authenticity?

SoleSource · 03/10/2012 23:42

hoops997 · 03/10/2012 23:43

If anyone else has read the link to his auto biography, it's in there about that book with 'no escape' in it, he was so fucking blasé about it all

SoleSource · 03/10/2012 23:44

Was age of consent 16 in the 60's and 70's?
The victims carried on having sex with him until their early twenties. Confused

Just seen a few mins and can't watch anymore. Poor women. Thank goodness I do believe it would be much harder to get away with such horrific acts on public property these days. I am glad that this has come out. The more brave people who speak out the less blinkered we will all be as a society.

Darkesteyeswithflecksofgold · 03/10/2012 23:44

That De"ath bloke and that journo. JESUS what is wrong with these people. why didnt they DO SOMETHING FGS.

ThreadWatcher · 03/10/2012 23:45

Linerunner Paul Merton was on Simon Mayos radio2 show today- about his own theatre show but Mayo did ask him about the Whose line thing and Merton said it was a complete fake, load of rubbish.
He did say Saville was weird when on the show but nothing more than that.

ITV player isnt listing the programme as ever being able to watch so I dont think Ill be able to see it at all, unless someone uploads it onto you tube.
But given the disgusted reactions you lot are having whilst watching it is obviously horrendous and frustrating viewing.

To anyone who has ever been abused - I believe you.

SoleSource · 03/10/2012 23:45

Jimmy was 51 when he was abuising the 14 year old.

nancy - I can get that but would they really have been best buddies with him and prepared to cross lines to help him out?

although it seems to me that he did a very good job of seeming that he was very well-connected, whether he was or not

GoingBlankAgain · 03/10/2012 23:46

thanks ThreadWatcher, you never know whether to believe stuff like that.

LineRunner · 03/10/2012 23:48

Thanks, Thread.

Sinister, wasn't that Leslie Grantham?

DreamsTurnToGoldDust · 03/10/2012 23:48

Going to record the rest of it and watch it quietly on my own, it's so upsetting. Night all x
