For me it's always been Blackadder II which has just been repeated, but I wish they hadn't all been killed off at the end.

I know I'm in the minority but for me the First series was way ahead of the reast. I loved it and think it went downhill after that. II was OK, but I was more witty, more daring (sex in the cupboard with a sheep?! insulting the CofE?) Best episode was Mirium Margoyles as the prospective Spanish DW-to-be brilliant one-liners: DW,who hasn't met him yet, to Danish MIL: "What's he like?" MIL: "Well, there's this sort of pudding..." DW: "No, What's he LIKE? etc. Spanish DW is accompanied by her slimy translator everywhere, even the bedroom. They are in bed. Her:"Oh, mi amore, mi amore..." Translator: "My love, my love". That made me cry with laughter. None of the other series came close to the first. Brian Blessed was brilliant as the King, and Baldrick was sly & clever rather than stupid.

DS was nicknamed 'great booze' the first time he woke from a nap.

after my scan where I discovered the sex of DC2, I told everyone it was a boy without a winkle.

LouMacca · 06/09/2012 21:33

All are brilliant but to me goes fourth is genius Smile

FrankelSaysRelax · 06/09/2012 21:41

I never fail to cry at the end of Goes Fourth Sad

FrankelSaysRelax · 06/09/2012 21:42

You could waste a lot of time in here Grin

NellyBluth · 06/09/2012 21:45

Mildred, that was the very Percy quote I was going to come on and say Grin Percy is just adorable.

On one of those Blackadder reunited programmes, Richard Curtis said he went only a few years ago to a poetry competition at his child's school, and one of the kids stood up and said "I will now read a poem about the war, by Private S. Baldrick..." Genius!

FrankelSaysRelax · 06/09/2012 21:45

"That it be!" gets used a lot round our house Grin

MildredIsMyAlterEgo · 06/09/2012 21:52

Twiggy I've never heard it called that before Wink

AmIthatbad · 07/09/2012 00:59

Oh, I love you all on this thread Grin

I too, say "Oh....it's a scythe"

We also say

Great booze up

That sounds a bit like f............

Thinking is so important

If someone is nice we say "aw, Prince George is a ....lovely" Blush

Please accept my appologies

Sausage! Sausage!

I loved them all, but I think that 3 was my favourite, mainly because that was when I started having a bit of a crush on Hugh Laurie and I loved the stories.

But Queenie and Percy were great in 2, and I thought 1 was genius.

And my favourite episode in 4 was the flying one, with Ade Edmonsdon as the Red Baron.

AmIthatbad · 07/09/2012 01:01

Oh, and forgot to say, I ALWAYS say "squeak....who's Queen" when I want to get my own way

Ambi · 07/09/2012 03:34

Definitely Goes Forth, Melchett and Captain Darling are great.
Also love the second series, not fussed at all about the others.

MrsGeologist · 07/09/2012 08:03

Whenever we eat sausage and mash, when it's ready, it's 'sausage time!'

Margerykemp · 07/09/2012 08:10

2 especially the 'head' episode

VivaLeBeaver · 07/09/2012 08:12

2
3
1
4

In that order. I wasn't as keen on 4 as the others though I know a lot of people like 4 best, and tv critics always rave on about series 4 been the best.

LeeCoakley · 07/09/2012 08:17

Love them all for different reasons. And so many lines are quoted and reworked in this house that I forget that they all originally came from Blackadder. Our favourite is 'you're madder than Mad Jock McMad the winner of last year's 'Mr Madman' competition'.

LeeCoakley · 07/09/2012 08:19

Oh and Rat au Vin and the contents of the coffee are well used here as well!

So many favourites really.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 07/09/2012 08:46

Kids found the DVds and played them on the dvd player in the car, and a liilte voice, about 8 or 9 piped up 'mummy, what's a catamite?' - 'oh, it erm, the bishops friend...'

StiffyByng · 07/09/2012 09:00

I've had them all on audio for 15 years and listen to them to get to sleep. DH had to get used to it when we moved in together. I know each episode backwards-love this thread! When the baby falls over, I usually say 'don't slouch'.

I think favourite series are:

III
II
IV
I

MrsHelsBels74 · 07/09/2012 10:15

'You appear to be wearing a pair of Devil's dumplings'

We do seem to quote Blackadder a lot in this house Grin

My face series is season 2.
However I have a few patients place a pair of pants on top of thier head, and go wibble, wobble. (we have no pencils)

Evil

iseenodust · 07/09/2012 10:29

Queenie & Flasheart everytime.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 07/09/2012 10:49

I don't remember them that well, but the Elizabethan one is my favourite, purely for Miranda Richardson's barnstorming turn as Queenie.

notcitrus · 07/09/2012 11:47

2 and 3 - 2 is laugh-out-loud funnier, 3 wittier
4 is better drama but slighly less funny because the scenario is too close to modern memory rather than history.
Only saw 1 once, without subtitles, so it just seemed slapstick and Mr-Bean-like, but should give it another go.
The Back+Forth time travel one they did for the Millennium was scuppered by having to be PG rated, so full of fart and poo jokes and only a couple good lines (as cunning as a fox who USED to be professor of cunning at Oxford University but is now Ambassador of Cunning to the United Nations!)

Dd has been channelling Queenie since a few weeks old - she's clearly saying "Just keep giving me the milk, mummy, or I'll have your head chopped off!"
And now on weaning she is totally disdainful of puree and has mastered Blackadder's facial expression: "What you are giving me for lunch, mother, if indeed it has a name, is a meal of purest green..."

TwiggysGoneOnHolidayByMistake · 07/09/2012 12:19

:o

Also have to say, in a Queenie voice, "I love toast..." whenever eating said food.

gallifrey · 07/09/2012 12:25

3 with Hugh Laurie as Prince George!

Funniest thing ever :)
