Are you looking forward to the new series starting soon?

I can't wait!

patsy I thinkthe mistrust of strangers is the result of thousands of years of persecution. I don't necessarily like it but who the hell am I to say it's wrong?

Hope you do make friends though. Nice people are everywhere, especially those ones who dare to reach out.

SoleSource · 26/06/2012 23:37

I have a Jewish online friend who sometimes states he is frightened of beingthrown out of the UK. He is mistrustful of people. He does not like British people either, :( Sweet, intelligent guy though.

SoleSource · 26/06/2012 23:38

I love Jack's suitcase :) He is off to Poland now. I'm going next October.

RubyFakeNails · 26/06/2012 23:47

I love this! Knew there would be a thread about it. I like bernette and Joel and jack but not that Rabbi. His comment about learning on the job and just the way he was made my skin crawl.

I'm Jewish but my parents were atheists and so only got some traditions from my gran. We celebrate Christmas and Hanukkah and I do feel connected to both parts.

I do think it's good that it will give some people insight into the more orthodox sides of life, there's a very Hasidic area just up the road in my part of London. They make me smile but I know people with no experience of Judaism find all these serious men dressed the same to be a bit scary and confusing.

Its made me feel I need to dig out all my childhood books on being Jewish!

Hmm. She introduces herself as 'the star of Strictly Kosher'. I hope she doesn't google herself but you can guarantee that she does!

TheNightWatch · 27/06/2012 20:01

I enjoyed it but, I didnt think it was any different to what was shown last year. I wouldve liked it to be more in the stylee of BFGW. More like a series.

Love Jack. Im wondering if Joels children go to Jewish schools? He keeps saying that he's not religious but, what about all the blessings in the shop? and the kosher kitchen etc? I like Benadette and imagine its hard seeing your children go very ultra orhodox, compared to yourself. It fascinates how its happeining more and more with the younger generation. I have no words for the Rabbi as I just cant warm to him.

UnnamedFemaleProtagonist · 27/06/2012 21:22

Yes they do, KD.

I liked him.

That little boy near Blackpool I wonder what school he goes to if the population has dwindled so much.

Id forgotten own stunning Jacks family were. Gorgeous and, his wife was so striking.

Lulumama · 28/06/2012 07:36

the rabbi featured in it is the one who has been teaching my son ( who was briefly featured) his Bar Mitzvah.... there is a larger Reform community, but very few Orthodox Jews left . We did go to the Reform Synagogue for a year or so, but it didn't work out for us.

RubyFakeNails · 28/06/2012 07:38

Zevi? Is that his name?

Is he as irritating in real life?

I could not believe that lovely girl married him, that comment about "learning on the job"

UnnamedFemaleProtagonist · 28/06/2012 08:09

My friend's kids go to KD. She keeps many of the restrictions and is very strict with eating kosher but they used to drive to synagogue until they moved nearer. She also texts and watches telly etc on Friday nights. The one thing her DH is strict about is not using the washing machine on a Saturday.

Itsgottabebags · 28/06/2012 08:55

Lulumama did your son have a good bar mitzvah?

OP posts:
TheNightWatch · 28/06/2012 09:01

Unamed, who are you talking about?

That poor girl that married the rabbi. I wonder what her parents really thought? you would need a medal to put up with him.

Joel talked about money abit too much for my liking. Is that why he broke the law and opened on a Saturday because, to me, he seemed pretty observant in all other respects.

UnnamedFemaleProtagonist · 28/06/2012 10:30

Who am I talking about in which post? I am talking about Joel's kids going Tina Jewish school if that's the post you mean?

TheNightWatch · 28/06/2012 10:37

Sorry, when you said she I didnt realise you were talking about your friend. I thought I'd missed a part of the programme!

I'm just at the hairdressers and they are all talking about it. There are plenty of Joels in here......Smile

popsnsqeeze · 28/06/2012 10:39

Jews don't only drink of Purim... It's just that on Purim they get completely trolleyed!

popsnsqeeze · 28/06/2012 10:40

I didn't watch the show (am abroad) but I grey up in an orthodox home and am happy to try to answer any questions!

TheNightWatch · 28/06/2012 10:47

Is Purim an orthodox festival as I've never noticed anyone partying in the street where I live!

popsnsqeeze · 28/06/2012 11:05

It;s like the jewish halloween! Everyone gets dressed up and gives each other food baskets :) Lots of fun

Lulumama · 28/06/2012 11:21

he's not had his Bar mitzvah yet , it's in a couple of months.

Yes, zevi is his real name, no he's not irritating and he's very nice .

Lulumama · 28/06/2012 11:24

I grew up around Prestwich/Whitefield.I miss the community, but whenever i go back I go to Joel's shop and the Jewish shops

TheNightWatch · 28/06/2012 11:24

My practically orthodox friend text me to say she cringed all the way through it. That's how all my Jewish friends felt last time as well.

UnnamedFemaleProtagonist · 28/06/2012 11:38

Mine too, TheNightWatch. One was ranting!
