I really don't think Daniel comes across well at all, but I've eaten at Midsummer House and it was WONDERFUL!

Changethatbulb · 07/06/2012 20:45

I am not going to spoil it in case anyone hasn't seen tonights episode yet, but I think that is one mighty fine Banquet menu. Smile

The problem with watching food on telly is you can neither taste it nor smell it. So while they raved about some dishes and not about others, you can't really know if the raved-about ones were better.

That chef last night that was all innovative making a souffle in a wafer cone?

On I Can Cook they just made cakes in ice cream cones.

I predict next year will all be about preschool cookery :)

JulesJules · 08/06/2012 18:59

When is the banquet on tv?

KurriKurri · 08/06/2012 19:04

Now I think Jules.

JulesJules · 08/06/2012 19:07

Oh yes I see, it is on NOW! Thanks!

Raahh · 08/06/2012 19:18

You would have thought they would have considered the distance between kitchen and dining room, when choosing the venueHmm

Raahh · 08/06/2012 19:21

and I would LOVE it if next year's series featured a party for kids- that would be a great test for the chefs! Children are very criticalGrin.

DukeHumfrey · 08/06/2012 19:35

Yeah, Raahh - and the unavailability of any fish because of bank holidays.

Both pretty massive planning fails, if you ask me.

Raahh · 08/06/2012 19:57

i suppose they have to have a bit of drama, thoughGrin

juneybean · 08/06/2012 19:59

I hate the way chefs shout at waiting staff Angry

EmmaCate · 08/06/2012 20:06

Anyone else pissed off AGAIN with the mock 'pick the menu' debate? Having watched every series I feel like writing to the judges and saying:

'Please don't piss about trying to pretend that starter A would go best with main B. Just find all the dishes that scored most for each round and pick those, because that's what you always fucking do. You may debate if you have an overlap of focal ingredients.'

Yet to see the drama of the final banquet but will watch on catch up. I am quite disappointed by the fish news...

cambridgeferret · 08/06/2012 20:09

There doesn't seem actually that much food......I'd still be hungry.
I wouldn't like to be covered in chicken spray.... my cat wouldn't leave me alone for a week.

Liked the look of the pud though.

MousyMouse · 09/06/2012 11:58

don't be fooled by the amount of food.
the courses are only litttle, but it's 4 portions + possibly canapés/amouse buche + coffee/bisquits afterwards. the guests will have been full to bursting.

I finally caught up. What a huge lack of foresight. Kitchen miles away, Oliver was really pushing his luck asking about deep fat friers in that room. What a tool.
Sir Steve Redgrave is the image of a friend of ours. DD always asks why S is on the telly if she sees him.
Agree with making next years for children. That would put a stop to quail in a pile of bark and chicken spray.
