Oi don't diss the Norn Iron chefs. I luff Chris Ferne. He's lovely. Also corrigan is a much tougher judge than marcus - which is why there is almost always an Irish chef at the banquet every year

I do really really want to go to L'Enclune though! His food looks amazing. JM seems like a total drama queen. I've never liked him and just because he has ripped off a Heston dish, doesn't mean that he can expect a 10/10.

My fav region is the SW though and I am really hoping that the lovely Paul is back this year. I thinks he is lovelyand cooks amazing and exciting food.

3monkeys · 08/05/2012 20:15

Haven't watched tonight's yet, looking forward to the drama. I thought the north east were terrible but the Northern Irish were brill!

stargirl1701 · 08/05/2012 22:34

Just watched JM walk out after the fish. It didn't look like he was in the kitchen for the main course - clever editing?

Collision · 08/05/2012 22:59

ooo-er at the hissy fit!

I really wanted the cameras to turn so we could see what he was doing!

I luuuuuurve GBM!

ripsishere · 09/05/2012 07:24

Oh the drama, the excitement, the lovely looking fish. I don't even eat fish but got excited about it.
I could tell you who was in the actual final four if I chose. My friend films this sort of thing. Apprentice, GBM, etc. He is very discreet though.
Definitely going to go to Church Green when DH comes home for a weekend.
The NW always does well I think, I also agree that Marcus is a soft marker.

Idontknowhowtohelpher · 09/05/2012 08:22

I flt sorry for the chap who got 10 - his achievement was overshadowed by the hissy fit. And I did think Marcus's little speech at the end was well overdramatic - would he have been directed what to say?

Get the impression that Marcus didn't really rate Johnny anyway. Bet he'll turn up for the main course tonight.

EmmaCate · 09/05/2012 08:35

I read it as struggled to do that to him, but you are probably right Lulu! Marcus is always a bit hard nosed. We knew about this 'amazing incident' before and I thought it was that someone was doing a fish course with no fish. But then as it went on I realised that it could be a mark so low it made the guy walk out.

You get the impression the other chefs feel Johnny is naive - the Bray chef kept hammering home flavour and content over fancy technique. I think they could sense they can see he is carried away with his concepts and delusional about whether they actually work.

He must be a bit of a tit though - to not recognise any faults whatsoever. The newbie is very honest with himself. Most of the chefs that do well have something bad to say about their meals, unless they really are perfect like the 10 yesterday.

Sorry - leapt on bandwagon! Am an avid follower and did want to discuss yestre!

lardylump · 09/05/2012 08:36

i loved that the Liverpool chap had to put his hand over his mouth so we couldnt see him laughing at the temper tantrum.

i have the same response when my dd has a hissy fit... it always makes me laugh

ripsishere · 09/05/2012 08:44

I thought Marcus was a bit generous with his marks. I also think he was realistic with Johnny. It was a bit preposterous. A fish course without fish. I would have struggled with that.
The Liverpool man is my local celeb chef

anniewoo · 09/05/2012 15:12

Where do i find the Telly Addicts thread on Mumsnet i phone app please? Thanks

Raahh · 09/05/2012 19:58

Ok, so Johnny wasn't there tonight- and only 2 go through to the final- so what is the point of carrying on as though there is acompetitive element? Both will go through on Friday won't theyConfused

Tee2072 · 09/05/2012 20:18

I'm just watching last night's after hearing about Johnny's tantrum.

No fish in the fish course. Hmm

Anniewood, you're on the Telly Addicts thread....

GrandPoohBah · 09/05/2012 21:04

I just caught up tee, and that's what I thought - he got 2 out of 10 for doing a fish course with no fish.

Ah well. I liked the look of the salmon dish, I've never eaten razor clams.

ripsishere · 10/05/2012 07:23

Puds tonight.
Poor not Aiden with his ancient veg. Imagine not checking whether you have spare turnips. Dozy fool.

Changethatbulb · 10/05/2012 09:14

Raaahh - Marcus said only one will go through on Friday, so there's still a competitive element.

Raahh · 10/05/2012 17:13

But if only one goes through on Friday- then, they judges don't really need to judge.

Unless they decide all the dishes are rubbishGrin.

I love GBM. You know it's nearly summer when GBM is on.

And I would be very miffed to get a fish course without fish!Grin
I would feel really silly if i was Johhny, though. Although maybe Marcus was a bit harsh. i haven't liked Marcus in previous series, he has usually seemed a bit full of himself- but I have warmed to him this week.

MaryBS · 10/05/2012 17:19

Both of them go through to the judges, only 1 will go through after they've judged. Thats what I understand it to be. In the meantime, there is still the need for their dishes to be independently assessed so they can improve them? Not to mention points scoring one against the other :)

Raahh · 10/05/2012 18:05

MaryBSThat makes more sense- thanksGrin

Prue doesn't look the type to put up with such childish shenanigans- I wonder if they will comment on Johnny's absence?

DukeHumfrey · 10/05/2012 20:01

I thought that Simon (the one who needs to shave) was a really nice bloke. Kind and that.

Agree about the NW being the best region so far. Both this week's (remaining) chefs are streets ahead of most of the other winners.

Davros · 10/05/2012 20:19

Johnnie should have come back to cook, not to pass judgment on the others' dishes imo. He's a tosser, how can he says "toys out of the pram blah blah" but not do it in time to take part?! Simon is hilarious, we both wondered if he had plugged in his great machine/gadget but we weren't serious but lo and behold! I like the camaraderie, despite being rivals, of Simon and Aiden. Maybe Johnnie has united them?
Purnells was a disappointment last night, good food but far from exciting, good service but a bit pretentious.
