The big Corrie thread (Spoiler Alert!)

For those of us who have no life care about Corrie and want to see it returned to its former glory.

And want answers to questions such as:

Why are Sean and Marcus moving back into Eileen's pokey house instead of getting a place of their own as other couples with two wages would do?

And does anyone else apart from me and Edith Weston remember when Corrie was on two days a week and was a high quality drama/comedy?

Terry's turned into Mr Creosote!!

SweetestThing · 16/04/2012 22:18

Have you noticed that, in the soaps, whenever they want to show that a businessman is a bit of a rogue, they always wear those coats with the velvet collar?

dietstartstmoz · 16/04/2012 22:19

His acting hasn't improved either. Still crap and shouty like dev

PoorAudreyHorseface · 17/04/2012 00:14

I'm a bit befuddled. Does Awdrah want to sell the salon so she can go off (where?) with Lewis? Why doesn't she sell 'er 'ouse instead? She'd raise more money and wouldn't be putting David and Kylie and Maria out of a job.

And how did Tommy manage to get a mortgage on his salary and with hardly any deposit seeing as he's blown most of it already?

And if Rita wanted to see Betty why didn't she drive herself there instead of Betty's son having to drive her?

I am way too invested in this programme Blush

I think Audrey wanted to release some capital from the shop to go on a cruise with Lewis rather than sell the whole thing. Perhaps she doesn't want to risk her home and thinks the salon can recoup the loss? I'm a bit confused about Audrey's money all round really. I thought when Alf died he had let his life insurance lapse so there wasn't the money she was expecting and then didn't she have to lend Gail the money to keep her house after the Richard Hillman business?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 17/04/2012 09:17

When Alfie died I thought he left her penniless. Then a couple of years later she's starting up a new salon. She's got a bigger nicer house than any of them. They seem to be able to obtain mortgages at the drop of a hat. It is all very confusing.

Didn't Rita say she wasn't going to drive again after being set up for that speeding fine by Ty's girlfriend?

BiscuitNibbler · 17/04/2012 10:32

I thought Alma left her some money when she died? Mind you, cash seems to appear in bank accounts by magic in all of soapland.

TheScottishPlayer · 17/04/2012 12:42

I don't think Tommy has spent too much of his £12K (unless I missed something). The TV was £600 and I don't imagine his fixer-upper camper van cost too much.

Last night's was quite sad I thought - it must have been difficult for those that had worked with Betty for a long time to do those scenes. There were a couple of moments I thought some of them were struggling to hold it together.

Did everyone spot the ginormous sign post when the 'councillor' said phone me on my mobile next time. Obviously some dodgy shenanigans for Terry's new venture. Given that Nick was talking about expanding last week I thought he would have been straight out having a nosy at what was going on.

FrillyMilly · 17/04/2012 12:50

Those VW vans cost several thousand when they don't even run (have a DH with a secret ambition to do one up) so I would reckon he's spent £4k in total. That leaves £8k which presumably he would need for his mortgage deposit, solicitors fees and valuations to buy the flat.

TheScottishPlayer · 17/04/2012 13:08

Blimey, you could buy a car that works for that Grin

LineRunner · 17/04/2012 13:18

Oh God, not the boring 'dodgy councillor' scenario. Yawn.

SheKnittedHimAJumper · 17/04/2012 17:48

Its a shame we cant get Gordon off with someone, maybe Gail?

It seems strange having Betty dying know when it was quite awhile ago in RL. I wonder why they have left it so long.

I wish Bette and that little husband of hers would come back for the funeral Smile

LineRunner · 17/04/2012 20:05

I liked the scene with all the older characters at the Rovers, sitting having a drink. Rita, Norris, Derek, Gordon etc etc.

The timing of the actors is so good - especially compared to, say, the scene in Roy's Rolls with Tyrone, Tina and Tommy. Only Roy saved that with his lovely puzzled delivery of, 'This is a caf-ay, not a saloon bar.'

whatkungfuthat · 18/04/2012 08:07

Gordon is only in it for a couple of episodes though, as he has to go back to being the chairman of Everton FC Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/04/2012 15:03

And being an Impresario. What a nice job title that is!

Nancy66 · 18/04/2012 15:27

....and Gail doesn't do to well with her husbands. He'd end up being in the mafia or something

I agree with Linerunner - the older cast members are so superior to the young 'uns. Fizz and Tina seem to have confuses 'shouting' with 'acting'

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/04/2012 15:35

I agree about the older actors too, they are what really makes the show different to the other soaps. Unfortunately I don't see any of the middle aged ones really stepping up to take over.

Nancy66 · 18/04/2012 15:50

I think the actress who plays Eileen is very good - unfortunately she gets crap storylines.

I also like Julie, Brian, Mary and Steve

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/04/2012 15:57

I was going to say Steve, then thought I couldn't class him as middle aged as he's about 10 years younger than me. Same for Julie.

Eileen needs a proper niche, they've never really found her one, she should never have left the cab office. Not sure about Mary, she has her moments but is a bit too strange for me.

whatkungfuthat · 18/04/2012 16:42

Mary and Norris get on my wick. Peter is middle aged or rapidly approaching it, and Stella. I wonder where they are going next with Anna and Owen?

LineRunner · 18/04/2012 17:09

I'd forgotten about Anna and Owen. I find it hard to ... care particularly about either of them.

I like Mary's bonkersness, myself. But it took me a while to 'get' her.

MadameChinLegs · 18/04/2012 17:10

Yes, Steve is a good character and a good actor, with good timing. Eileen is good too, but agree she always seems to get 'downtrodden' storylines. I think Jane Danson is good too, but I hated how froufy she got around Peter when he kep[t going off the rails and even saying she would forgive and forget the Carla thing if he wanted....grow a pair, woman!

LineRunner · 18/04/2012 17:11

I like Steve, too. Great face.

SweetestThing · 18/04/2012 17:20

Steve often reminds me of Homer Simpson with his facial expressions Grin.

I think Mary and Norris could be developed nicely. Agree about Eileen - she is a good comic actor (remember her in Dinnerladies?) but has quite a wide range and needs better storylines to develop her character. Leanne can be a great feisty woman character if they would let her.

I do like the way Kylie is shaping up, though - I think she could start to fill a bit of the Becky gap.

TheScottishPlayer · 18/04/2012 17:23

I like Steve - he needs a good new storyline. Leanne needs a decent storyline too - I know she's got the whole Simon thing, but it's just a bit dull.

It seems the writers don't know what to do with Owen. He started off being really evil (remember all the stuff with Eileen?), then they softened him a bit with Anna, then that turned nasty. Now he's just a PITA.

Fizz was good when she was younger (as was Chesney), but they're all a bit downtrodden and miserable these days.

Had a random thought in the car earlier - what happened with David's illness after he ran over Graeme (shame they couldn't keep him). Doesn't he have epilepsy or was he magically cured a bit like Tracy's kidney
